The beginning Pt. 1

One day, while out rummaging for ants and grubs in the leaf litter, you hear something unique- a seductive sound, coming from a stout, moist little man. Would you accept his call? If you were a female Rhombophryne matavy, you might not be able to resist the masculine wiles of this tenacious little frog. 

Only recently known to science, Rhombophryne matavy is a robust microhylid with coloration and skin likely meant to mimic a leaf. It’s currently only known to exist in the Forêt d’Ambre Special Reserve in northern Madagascar, and even then it’s only been observed on a handful of occasions- a combination of encroaching human habitation and it’s burrowing habits make it an especially rare frog, and one that deserves to be protected.
