J'ai vu la réponse à l'une des questions précédentes, et maintenant je suis curieux, quel est le prix de la vie ??
ersonnellement, je suis intéressé par le prix de la vie au québec pour genre une famille de 3 personnes (si ça va)
Coucou anon!
Ouais pas de problème. Le coût de la vie au Québec pour une famille de 3 personnes est le suivant ;
Logement (32.79%):
Le loyer est de 1 040,00 $
L'électricité coûte 80,33 $
Le téléphone et l'Internet coûtent 136,00 $
Nourriture (34.88%):
Pour trois personnes 1,336,25 $
Transport (18,23%):
Coût d'un char, 698,58$
Divers (9.09%)
Pour n'importe quoi, 348,32$
Garde d'enfants (opt, 5.01%)
Préscolaire, 192,00$
en total, 3893.08$ par mois.

why dont we all just live in cars until the prices go down LMAO
You're not the first to think about this, recently theres been a news update upon a 58 year old Sudbury man living in his car due to not being able to afford Canadian housing (despite having cheques coming in from the government regarding his disabilitys).
Heres a photo of his "home".
Tumblr media
The man suffers from PTSD, Parkinsons disease, a heart condition, and general grade anxiety. He claims he doesent drink, smoke, or spend money on gambling, and yet hes still struggling to survive on 900$ a month. Each paycheck goes to paying for food and other nessesities, aswell as his cellphone, which due to everything being so online now: is crucial.
Hes been living this way, sleeping on the floor of his car since June of 2024, when he was evicted from his home.

how many candians have gone homeless or are lviing on the streets because of this housing crisis??
According to a study done in December of 2023 by Statistics Canada, 11% of Canadians have experience some type of homelessness. According to the study, 2.2% of people have experienced absolute homelessness, which is when you don’t have anywhere to stay. However 10.5% of Canadians have experience hidden homelessness, which is when you do have somewhere to stay but it isn’t permanent. Homelessness is different in different communities. According to Statistics Canada, 30% of indigenous households were homeless, which is stark comparing to those who weren’t indigenous. The leading causes of homelessness is financial difficulties, as joblessness was surging as well as inflation, according to Statistics Canada. A second to that was relationship issues (including abuse and fleeing abuse.) women were 4x more likely to be homeless because of this than men. Health issues are also a big reason as an huge amount had listed mental health as a contributor of homelessness.

what has the gov done to help with rising housing prices
The Canadian government has started to step in as of this year, giving us a comprehensive plan to what they are going to conduct. The government has planned for more houses to be constructed, easier renting or ownership, and aid for those who can’t afford a home. Canada is currently taking in people, mostly students for apprenticeships to help build more houses efficiently and to provide students with jobs. Indigenous communities will be supported more than ever as they have funded thousands of houses on reserves. Indigenous community is also mostly affected from past government conflicts, hence why a lot of the indigenous population are sadly homeless. As well, homeless people will be provided for as they have a 4 billion dollar plan to help. The Government is providing housing at lower costs with assistance for those in need.

How does the housing crisis affecte diff places?
Great question! Areas of Canada do get affected differently! The National Bank of Canada has given us information about housing prices across cities. This is information given to us just only a month ago (November 2024)! Well, Canadians are impacted differently, these two charts listed below show how much we are now paying for housing. To explain our first chart, it shows affordability over the past 45 years, but based on this, it doesn’t give us that much information on why it’s so high in certain places. This is where the spread sheet comes in. The spread sheet giving us information on how much is spent of mortgage and down payments. A connection that could be made is that from how much it a house costs can stem from how much people are paying down payments and monthly mortgage! Vancouver is 3 times more expensive than Quebec, Vancouver having a much higher down payment and mortgage than Quebec! Even though the median income isn’t as different! This could lead to certain cities to be more expensive than others.

who can + cannot afford to live in Canada? (more specifically Toronto)
plz sources 2
In 2024, 26% of Canadians between 18 and 34 own a home, down from 47% in 2021.
This entails that its mostly the older generations that own houses, (Gen X and older) Which we can assume that the older generations are likely the majority of Landlords as well.
put simply,
The majority of Landlords and Home owners, as we can assume from the given statistic, are Gen X and older. Obviously, these age groups aren't the only people that may own houses, as older Millennials may have been able to afford housing back when it was affordable.

whuts th main cause of the housin crisiss??
sources plz i need 2 win a debate LOL
To answer your question, we should get down to the root of the issue. Why can’t Canadians afford housing in Canada? Well, according to Statistics Canada, from October 2022 to October 2024, there were huge jumps in mortgage interest prices. Across these two years, we had a jump from 11.4% (October 2022) to 30.9% (August 2023) and back to 14.7% (October 2024). Well, why has it gone down? Recently, minimum wage has increased. But, only in 2024. This means when we had high inflation, in addition with having low wages as well.

Hello! Bonjour! (Introduction, FR/ENG)
First off, this blog was created as a resource to aid those who may have questions about Canadas current Housing crisis. Here are some things to keep in mind:
This Blog is managed by two people.
Co-Host one is under the alias - Chen
and Co-Host two is under the alias - Doomer
Doomer is in charge of answering the French asks, as this is a Bi-Lingual blog. (fr/eng).
Chen is in charge of answering the English asks.
This is very flexible though, as we will normally rotate turns in who responds to what…etc.
Hopefully this will be enough of a resource for peers and youth alike to submit anonymous asks about the current housing crisis. Remember, there are no dumb questions! For further questions, feel free to ask in our inbox and we will respond as soon as possible.
Our mission is to educate, we will link our resources aswell. All of this info can be found online and on government approved sites, our job is to summarize it and make it easier for you all to understand.
Support our mission, a message from Chen and Doomer.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————
français;
