OH MY GAWD. I just discovered this short film, Red feat. THE Cate Blanchett. Incredible!!! It's a savage tale of female power inspired by the mating of red black spider. I've seen Manifesto, she plays 13 characters & that's not enough! Is there anything she can't do??!!

For today's Cate Blanchett dose, I watched Veronica Guerin. Yet another grand performance but the movie just failed to deliver a compelling biopic despite the powerful story. 🍿🍿

Before I hit the bed, for my daily Cate Blanchett dose, I watched Charlotte Gray. I've seen better WWII dramas, tbh. She puts up a beautiful performance like always but plot was dull for me. It had some good moments, but no real fireworks.

Anyone would fall in love with her character. She started seemingly delicate but slowly became a war heroine who finds herself and meaning in the process. I can't believe this was shot 20 yrs ago! 🍿🍿🍿

I watched Cate Blanchett in I'm Not There last night. Made a few GIFs.

I'm Not There is like a collage of music icons created in a very peculiar approach. I love how nostalgically poetic it was and how powerful the actors were in the film. Ben Wishaw was a revelation for me.

Cate is just brilliant with how she disappeared into character. When she was on the stage performing I did not see Cate at all. You don't have to even pretend that she's Dylan. What a woman.

Okay, so Little Fish. It's an old 2005 Australian movie, Cate Blanchett plays Tracy Heart who is a former heroin junkie struggling to overcome consequences of her drug use.

The movie is a far cry from her usual glamorous / stylish characters, she looks practically wasted in the film, desperate and sometimes shaken esp in those scenes when she faces officers for her loans. The way her expression subtly changes yet profound was just so on point.

The film focuses on her relationships with her family and ex lover, how she navigates through multiple rejections, anxiety and loneliness. The rawness of her character felt so real. This is probably a favorite of mine now next to Carol.

My favorite bit is when she buys drugs for the first time in many years but doesn't consume it after hearing a children’s choir. The look on her face, deep grounding in reality.

It's also my first time to see Cate Blanchett in a film opposite a person of color and that bathroom scene was beautifully and carefully executed. The tension was there, and I felt the uncertainty and perhaps despair.

It's a heartbreaking story with such fine performances by Hugo and Cate (weirdly, not as elves) which fueled the film to be honest. There is no hint of Hollywood in this but to me, it made it worth watching.

The ending provided a good glimmer of hope. If you want to see Cate Blanchett go from glamorous to a wasted drug addict this is the film to watch.

I'm obsessed with Cate Blanchett. She's just insanely talented, fiercely intelligent, stunningly beautiful and just really, melted the hearts of millions of lesbians in the planet.

In my self-isolation, I decided to re-watch Carol, Ocean's 8 and watched almost all interviews I could find all over the socials. And since I have a few more days alone... I decided I should watch some of her old movies that I haven't seen. I'm watching Little Fish later, it would be weird to watch Hugo Weaving and Cate Blanchet as junkies and not elves.

So I guess this is why I’m back on Tumblr? Because I need to let everyone know I’m obsessed with her but I don’t want people who know me in person, know?

I’m not sure why I went back here. I thought this thing was long dead. I missed the anonymity of social spaces online like this...  just like how I started my first tumblr eons ago, super late... I should be in bed but I couldn’t sleep. Maybe I need an outlet? I’m not really sure. Definitely love seeing those gifs again and maybe read some fanfic later. It’s good to see you, old friend.
