Hello My dearest friends,🌟
My name is Mahmoud Jihad, from Gaza. My home, my university, everything has been destroyed. I now live in a flimsy tent with my family after losing everything. I was studying Information Technology while caring for my family, and now we have nothing. 😔
We are living amidst indescribable destruction and desperately need your help to survive. 😭 Even a small donation can make a huge difference. Every contribution is a spark of hope in the darkness of this war. ✨
My campaign is verified by: @beesandwatermelons ✅ #190 and @gazavetters ✅ #63.
My GoFundMe link: https://gofund.me/463cbf01
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Let's rebuild our lives together. 🙏❤️
I am so sorry for what you're going through. I am unable to donate but if anyone can, please do! Or reblog, comment, and like to spread it to others

my wish belongs only in the hearts of youth
it is painful, sometimes, to love platonically in a way that is so rarely fully reciprocated. i really don't know how to explain the way i feel, but right now, it feels like when you're a child and you have your best friend, and they're the person you will always go to to hang out. the way you'd beg your parents for an extra five minutes to play together with random little secrets and handshakes. how you'd talk about the future and plan out how you both will live together in the same apartment and go to the same school, promising that you'll be together forever. it feels like every friend i've had grew up and found love in romance where i'm still clinging onto the same dream from childhood.

I’m surprised no one’s mentioned Sounds Fake But Okay: An Asexual and Aromantic Perspective on Love, Relationships, Sex, and Pretty Much Anything Else by Kayla Kaszyca and Sarah Costello. They also have a podcast under the same name! I haven’t read it yet but I’ve listened to a couple episodes and it’s basically just two aspec friends chatting about weird societal standards and stuff, it’s great.
as for fiction, Loveless by Alice Oseman is always my go-to rec because it’s probably my favourite book ever and it deals with the aroace experience so well (it’s about a girl figuring out she’s aroace, with a couple of really sweet friendships and college shenanigans mixed in). I also really enjoyed Dear Wendy by Ann Zhao, which focuses on two characters having an online rivalry but becoming best friends irl, and they’re both aroace and talk about it a bunch.
and I forgot to mention when I first posted this, but also Being Ace edited by Madeline Dyer for fiction. It’s a short story collection written by and about asexual (and sometimes arospec) people and it also has representation for different cultures and a disabled main character in one of the stories!
Due to recent developments I wanted to recommend two books for people who might want to educate themselves and/or read up on Asexuality.
The Invisible Orientation: An Introduction to Asexuality by Julie Sonder Decker is a really good primer if you don’t really know anything about the topic, it explains the basics and goes into romantic attraction and sexual activity, talks about common assumption about asexuality and is really catered towards people with no previous knowledge. It’s a decade old now, so it is somewhat dated, but still an excellent start.
Meanwhile Ace: What Asexuality Reveals About Desire, Society and the Meaning of Sex by Angela Chen talks a lot about the lived experience of asexuals, both as individuals and in relationships, I found it to be very insightful and validating, amd if you want to understand asexuals better I think this might be really helpful
If anyone has other recommendations please feel free to add them, especially fiction books, my bookshelves are severely lacking in that regard

here's a thing i haven't seen people talk about for whatever reason. romance can be a form of abuse. romance can be traumatizing. romance can be upsetting to experience. having romance forced upon you is a form of harassment. having someone repeatedly express romantic interest in you despite you rejecting them is awful and uncomfortable and violating.
something doesn't have to be sexual in nature or intent in order to be a form of harassment. romantic harassment is a real thing. the only reason nobody talks about that is because everyone is just too attached to the idea of romance as an inherent positive to realize that it can and has been used to hurt people.

It really says something that a lot of monogamous people consider polyamorous and aromantic to be "opposites" but every polyam person I know took one look at aromantics and said "they're just like me for real"

While separating relationships into strictly sexual, platonic, or romantic or some combination of those is fine for understanding the aromantic and asexual spectrum at a basic level, we must eventually understand that some relationships will never fit into these categories and often queer relationships are more complex than that, and our definition of queer relationships must include abstract relationships.

Hello, I am a student in Alberta, Canada. I am also trans and I use a different name and set of pronouns at school. In late January (2024) a pronoun policy was presented by Danielle Smith that requires parental consent for children under 16 to change their name and pronouns at school. It also prevents trans people from receiving gender-affirming healthcare and bans them from participating in female sports. This policy is being proposed in late October and it will undoubtedly hurt hundreds of trans people across the province if it gets passed. Please spare a minute of your time and sign this petition to stop the policy from being passed. It takes very little effort from you but it will make all the difference for us. Please watch her video where she explains the legislation and what she plans to do with it.
