chubby-custard's weight gain tips and tricks
Many users have sent me messages about how I have gained weight so quickly and so well. 37 pounds in three-and-a-half months is pretty significant! Here are just few things I have learned, and I am still learning as time passes.
1) Cook with lots of butter or butter substitutes (like coconut oil). I believe that the fact that I regularly consume at least the amount of fatty calories of stick of butter or butter equivalent a day has helped me the most. It’s easy to add to pasta and noodles, which are great carbs to help with weight gain.
2) Use bigger plates, bowls, and cups! Perception aids appetite. The goal is for your stomach to be bigger than your eyes, not the other way around.
3) Stuff or eat heavy, junky foods before bed. I frequently eat a pint to a quart of ice cream before I go to sleep.
4) Snack throughout the day as you are able. I love potato chips, and can eat a whole bag if I’m working, reading, or on my computer. Distractions while eating help it seem less overwhelming to eat more.
5) Learn to cook and bake well, and love to do it! It’s all the better if you enjoy gaining, take it slowly, and eat delicious foods.
6) Take care of your health by going on daily walks, swimming lightly, or practicing yoga. While fat is perceived as “unhealthy” … it’s all risk management, environment, and genetics. There are a lot more chronic health effects of leading a sedentary lifestyle, so adding light, non-exertive exercise to your routine keeps your body, muscles, and heart strong. I maintain a daily yoga practice to stay flexible, even though my belly gets in the way. As of now, I can still touch my palms to the floor bending over forwards.
7) Take care of your skin! I stay soft by rubbing my whole body in baby oil and lotion after the shower. Stretchmarks are a normal part of gaining; there is no way to actually prevent them. Moisturizing feels wonderful, is absolutely great for your body, and gives you a sense of how your body is changing. Also, remember to floss after you brush your teeth at night (imprortant life advice in general) (I hope you’re also brushing your teeth in the morning).
8) Invest in clothes that stretch, and make wardrobe choices that make you feel confident in your growing body. I almost exclusively wear stretchy, loose dresses and leggings, and I feel very proud of how I look and feel as I present myself in the ���real” world.
9) Don’t forget to balance your healthy nutrient / protein intake with binging on junk food. I make sure I plan out healthy meals with vegetables and protein first, then add fattening aspects to those meals, and add junk food and stuffing all on top of that. 5-a-day is very important. Michelle Obama, if you’re reading this: I’m sorry I blew up and got fat, but at least I’m getting my fruits and vegetables!
10) To add to the above, don’t feel like you need to rely on gainer shake recipes, which can be very hard to digest and sit uncomfortably for many people, including myself. Instead, blending a shake with fruits (back to 5-a-day, and bananas are a healthy fat), whole milk, peanut butter, yogurt, etc. can be much more enjoyable and incorporated at any stage in your day, while also seriously adding to caloric intake.
I know there are a lot of lists like this one floating around, but this is just what I have found to be important to my experience. Enjoy, and stay full, fat, and happy!
