I had wanted to make this for a while.  It’s one of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite Star Wars novels.  I know it’s a bit of a scroll, but I wanted to capture some of the best lines of this dialogue between Yoda and young Dooku. 

It’s really raw and it never fails to make me think about all alternative possibilities there could have been for Dooku’s future as well as how challenging it must be for some Jedi to reconcile their feelings about their birth families and all the confusion, resentment, happiness, longing, contentment, etc. that comes with that.  It’s deeply relatable as well as very human in a way that, sometimes, Star Wars doesn’t lend itself to (being a grand interstellar adventure with space wizards and all).  At least I think so hahah.

REDEMPTION MEANT CONFRONTING HIS PAST, but Dooku had sorely UNDERESTIMATED just how much seeing Sifo-Dyas again after all these years would hurt. From the moment Sifo-Dyas had entered this room, Dooku’s heart was BREAKING and MENDING itself simultaneously until there was nothing left but immense LONGING burning within his soul and bitter REGRET consuming him from the inside. War-weary eyes flickered up to meet Sifo-Dyas’s own, and the REDEEMED SITH LORD took a hesitant step forward.

  ⠀   Here stood his other half — the better part of his soul, in every sense of the phrase. Dooku swallowed the lump which had formed in his throat, keenly aware of his trembling hand still resting at his side. Take my hand again, Sifo had said. If Dooku took Sifo’s hand, he could be whole again.

This is just one more step on the journey to redemption.

  ⠀   ⠀ With a sharp intake of breath, Dooku reached out, and grasped Sifo-Dyas’s ACHINGLY FAMILIAR hand. He did not speak for a few moments after, granting his soul the chance to reacquaint itself with his companion. Despite all they’d been through, being in the presence of Sifo-Dyas was still the equivalent of the very best HEALING SALVE that the temple’s medical wing had to offer. Stars, he’d missed him so much.

“Sifo.” Gone was Dooku’s usual eloquence; Sifo-Dyas’s name was choked out in an AGONIZED whisper amidst tears which the traditionally stoic Jedi Master had to blink away lest they fall and make him crumble. “It’s good to see you again.”

SIFO-DYAS MEANS WELL, but he is wrong. With each passing day, the DARKNESS within Dooku’s soul grew — subtle enough to go unnoticed by others, yet still detectable to himself. This is the way it’s been, ever since Dooku first encountered the Tirra’Taka on Serenno. There’s something very wrong with him, and only Dooku himself can see it. He can’t identify it, can’t name it — still, it’s there nonetheless.

  ⠀  ⠀  ⠀Unable to summon the words required to do his plight justice, Dooku gazes at Sifo with parted lips in uncomfortable silence before letting out a sigh, and shaking his head.

“I wish I could have the confidence in myself that you have in me, Sifo, but it’s not that simple.” Dooku’s shoulders slump, causing him to slouch UNCEREMONIOUSLY against his chair. “There’s a lot of bad things inside of me.”
