how to tell if you are part of the edgy nerds cult known as dark academia
you study at a prestigious school nobody ever heard of in an obscure city. your school looks like a castle from times past and is hidden from society, being only accesible through a forest.
you have an amazing fashion sense. you dress like a model even when you are in your dorm. it doesn’t matter that there’s nobody around because physical forms aren’t the only things you’re trying to impress.
everything you do is for the morbid longing for the picturesque.
you either drink and smoke a lot or like watching people do those things because they please your aesthetic sense (or they remind you of some tragic event from your past; and you like to be reminded of what you lost.)
you speak at least three languages. bonus points if you speak dead ones like greek or latin.
you probably study humanities, arts or languages. if you study law or other fields that are more socially acceptable in this capitalistic society, you may have a dark academia soul, but you choose not to pursue that path. (you still look back at your choice and think ‘what if’ sometimes)
you like reading classical books. you probably still live in the era of your favourite books. your way of thinking, of speaking and of being shows that you never grew out of that Romantic / Rennaisance / Antique period.
you romanticize everything. everything you do, you do with passion, you enjoy every cup of tea, every human interraction, every sunset (because if you wouldn’t, you’d go crazy).
you have high expectations of people and relationships. if you don’t feel enough passion from people, you leave. you’re either very good at taking the trash out of your life or the exact opposite (be careful, romantic soul).
you are extremely interested in ancient cultures and mythologies, especially the greek and roman one. you feel connected with those old souls that lived in times forgotten.
you lament the fact that you are not a character in a book, but just a character in your own life. you think that you would make a great tragic protagonist.
you love listening to classical music. you feel that it moves you like nothing else. bonus points if you play an instrument.
you are extremely melancholic. you sometimes sigh and look in the distance thinking about your past lives, your actual existence and the quick passing of time. this happens very often, especially in tumultuous times.
you don’t much care about such mundane things as sexuality or gender. you are what you are and you don’t care what society has to say about this.
you love the academic environment. you love being in schools or near them. you will always being a student at heart, always learning something. always studying.
you have a deep love for art. you love visiting and getting lost in museums. the bigger the better. you especially like those roman and greek marble sculptures and the paintings of men and women nakedly enjoying life.
you are down for a bacchanal in the woods. you are just waiting for other people to join you.
you still cry over the injustices some of your favourite authors like Oscar Wilde suffered.
you love talking in quotes. this is what happens when phrases touch your heart and remain in your brain forever. the effect of good literature never goes away.
you feel deeply and fully. you are either a dark byronic hero, brooding at your window, or a sensible romantic soul, trying to messily express all the love you contain in your small body. sometimes you are both dark and light.
you feel connected to nature. you especially feel more like yourself in dark, stormy weather that reflects the workings of your soul.

Hi, do you have any recommendations of tv series or movies around the subject of dark academia, literature students, early 1900s etc? Please, anything that comes to your mind :D Have a nice day!
Good evening!
I do have some to recommend you, yes, nothing that you probably haven’t already heard of, though; but I’ll try to be as original as I can.
The Silent Revolution (2018)The Riot Club (2014) Kill Your Darlings (2013)Dead Poets Society (1989)A Single Man (2009)The Skulls (2000)Possession (2002)Maurice (1987)The Silenced (2015)The History Boys (2006)Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975 )The Dreamers (2003)The Fire Within (1963)Stoker (2013)Έτερος εγώ (2016)
Now, some of these do not belong to the dark academia genre per se BUT they have a quite similar aesthetic. Enjoy!

Throwback to last year at the Louvre when I saw a little girl sitting on the ground looking up to the statue of the goddess Athena. Probably the most Renaissance-like and powerful picture I ever took.
