hey so when ur talking about omegaverse but espesh a/b/o yous need to leave the slashes in a/b/o if u have to use that term. bcos without the slashes, ur just putting a slur against my ppl (racists shorten the Aboriginal in Aboriginal Australians) all over my dash where i have to constantly see it and that fucking sucks, my guys
and i know most of yous didnt know this and thats fine! no need to apologise im not trying to make u feel bad, im just trying to navigate fandom and this website without being constantly exposed to a really awful racist slur
if u have to use that specific term, at least keep the slashes between the letters. it still sucks to see tho ngl. even better! stick to omegaverse or instead use aob (alpha-omega-beta) (imo its also nicer to pronounce; ay-oh-bee. ayo-bee)
anyway, pls spread awareness and (nicely) let ppl know when theyre using a racist slur for a fandom term

Nuclear still double the cost of renewables and still at LEAST 15 years away from being built, CSIRO confirms, despite Dutton claiming otherwise.
The CSIRO produces an annual report called GenCost. Recently this pointed out that nuclear energy would cost at least DOUBLE that of renewable energy.
No stranger to straight up lying, Dutton's latest Trumpian tactic is to undermine the integrity of an independent body by saying it's biased and wrong because it didn't get the result he wanted. He criticised it for not taking into account the longevity of nuclear reactors because it's report commented on the cost over a 30 year span.
So in a more recent release the CSIRO pointed out that even if you extend the timeframe to 60 years the cost of nuclear only goes down 9% compared to the 30 year estimate, while renewables also go down 7% under the same approach. The cost of producing renewable energy is projected to decrease, as it has dramatically over the past few decades, whereas the cost of building and maintaining nuclear is not expected to get any cheaper.
Plainly speaking: there is NO economic or financial advantage to nuclear over renewable energy. None. It will INCREASE power costs AT LEAST DOUBLE and it will take DECADES to get online.
Even when the CSIRO takes on board Dutton's nonsense arguments and criticisms the science still does not stack in Dutton's favour.
The fact is: Coalition has no policies to help the cost of living so they're creating any kind of division they can to try and claw back votes from Labor. There is no reason to vote for the Coalition in 2025 - even the rich will not benefit from it because Dutton's plans for electricity will increase their power bills too.

Please take a moment to read this. A Canadian company wants to build a sulfide copper mine near Lake Superior, which holds 21% of the world’s freshwater. The mine would produce 98.5% toxic waste, stored in a dam just two miles from the lake. The dam can only withstand a 1-in-100-year storm, but the area has had two 1-in-1,000-year storms in the past decade. If it breaks, toxic water could flood the lake. Copper sulfide mines in the U.S. have consistently contaminated nearby water sources, and this mine could hurt local communities with lower employment, income, and property values. The company wants $50 million in taxpayer funding to move forward. The Michigan Senate is about to vote, if they don’t get the funding they can’t build it.
Sign this petition if you want to prevent this disaster by searching “Protect the Porkies, Protect Lake Superior— Stop the Copperwood Mine!” at change.org.

Readers, make sure you have all your favourite Ao3 fics downloaded.
Writers, make sure you have copies of all the fics you have posted on Ao3.
I don’t want to be alarming, but things could get really bad really fast. OTW shared this today on Twitter, and I'm a bit worried about it 😅
Ao3 is a non-profit organisation. If they have to start paying taxes, I have no idea what will happen.

This morning there was a nation-wide text spam campaign targeting Black Americans (largely students) telling them that they’ve been selected to pick cotton and will be picked up to be sent to a plantation after Trump’s inauguration.
People online are making jokes about it, but it’s genuinely a disturbing sign. Someone was emboldened enough to intentionally run a background on thousands of young Black people and send them racist messages the day after a very exhausting and stressful election.

advice from dad
So, my Dad is a 73-year-old Mexican man who has lived here since he was 16. He was in Watts during the riots in 1965; in 1992, when I was in LA, as soon as the Rodney King verdict was announced, he called me, told me what was coming, told me how to stay safe. He has survived horrible living conditions, being kidnapped, physical abuse, prejudice, discrimination. He learned English, got his green card, pays his taxes, works hard, and has three daughters.
I thought he would be devastated today.
But he wasn’t.
He saw that I was sad and angry, and he asked me why, pretending he had no idea. I almost started crying. And then he said, “no se me chicopale.”
It means, don’t lose heart. Don’t give in to despair.
I asked him why he wasn’t upset.
He said, basically, “The world has always been this way. There are always people who are afraid, who are racist, who are awful. This is not new. And it will never go away. He won. We can’t do anything about that. All we can do is what we can do. Fight for what matters to us. Take care of each other. And don’t lose heart. And here, I got these unsalted cashews for you and a bag of jamaica drink mix and can you show me how to use the new washing machine because it’s not working.”
And, for reasons I can’t articulate, I feel a little better.

So some people in PA got an email TODAY saying that their vote might not have been counted. If that's true, then they actually fucking cheated.
Link here, though Musk will probably try to delete it, so here's the images directly:

That's how long it's been since WA Labor promised to help LGBTQIA+ people by abolishing the Gender Reassignment Board and banning conversion practices, yet refuse to do so. Here's a list of MPs. Email them telling them to hurry up and pass urgently needed LGBTQIA+ reforms.

any australians in the crowd tonight, the national library’s fabulous online resource trove is losing funding next year and if nothing happens to change that it will likely cease to exist. trove is not only a valuable resource for historians like me, it is a national cultural archive that is of great importance to australian society today. it is also completely accessible and free of charge to anyone with the internet; how fucking rare is that! we can’t lose it. i can’t even imagine the consequences.
if you’re as emotional about this as i am, or even if you’re not but love pestering people in power for any reason whatsoever, please contact your local mp and ask them to save trove and commit to funding this invaluable resource beyond july 2023. you can find your local member here. please also contact susan templeman mp, the special envoy for the arts, and tony burke mp, the arts minister.
non-australians, i would really appreciate a reblog. funding needs to be secured for trove and it needs to happen now.

Hi Mr Auspol! I'd really appreciate if you could promote this Qld Parliament petition to reform the Births, Deaths and Marriages Recognition Act to make life easier for transgender and intersex people.
Currently in Queensland you have to have had bottom surgery to change your gender marker. This surgery costs tens of thousands of dollars, isn't necessarily available in Queensland, and is just not something that every trans person wants.
(I'm not 100% sure how things work for intersex people who want to change their gender marker, but I doubt it's any better than it is for trans people.)
Queensland's laws also don't account for non-binary or intersex people at all, the only two options are M and F (this is out of step with the federal government).
Any Queensland resident is allowed to sign the petition, and it closes on the 23rd of March.
Sure thing! Checkout the petition people.
