PILOT G-TEC 0.4MM PEN
Weight: 0.8 ounces Dimension: 6 x 2.3 x 0.3 inches
I love this pen.
My relationship with this pen started about 17 years ago. It was during a time when I really paid attention to my penmanship. That is to say that I wrote meticulously microscopic letterforms. I’m sure there are some really interesting reads about the psychology behind that, but I digress.
This pen is great because the control of ink release is so perfectly precise. The tiny pen tip allow me to continue to write the way I’ve always written. The body of the pen can leave marks on your fingers when gripped too tightly which I tend to do, but when capped on the back of the pen, the length perfectly balances the weight - and that really makes up for the tight grip issue.
These days I use my pen to write but I also use it to draw. I draw wireframes, building sketches, ui sketches, silly panda faces, letterforms, patterns…etcetera, etcetera. It is still as perfect as ever.
A couple of downsides: it requires a certain amount of gentleness, dropping or pressing too hard can bend the tip. I’ve used the pen with a bent tip and sometimes, it can be an improvement but most of the time, it’s broken. And like any other ink pen, you have to watch out for a bit of pooling - mostly when you’re drawing and using a lot of ink in one spot. Common sense stuff.
