“I can fix him” I couldn’t fix him and I don’t want to. I think he grew prone to biting and scratching in order to get by in a harsh world, and to me his resilience is part of what makes him so beautifully himself. I could be kind to him, though. I could show him gentleness. I could, slowly but surely, in the same way one earns the trust of a skittish stray cat, convince him that my touch will never come accompanied by pain. That, around me, he can allow himself to be soft. To relax. I could be the one he associates with warmth and safety, the one he longs to be held by after a hard day. I could be his home.

i still need to figure out the finer details of jack’s modern au but two things i know i’m keeping for certain:

joe moore as a retired military colonel turned ceo of australia’s biggest privatized armored transport company, citadel services. jack has been his top driver for well over a decade now but he’s been linked to the company for far longer; his parents were former employees. he joined citadel services internship program after dropping out of high school to follow in their footsteps. they died a long time ago but jack remains at the company because it’s something he’s good at and he doesn’t see any other options for someone like him.

the wives are part of a roller derby team, hence them all going by nicknames like “the dag”, “toast”, “cheedo”, etc.

how the two intersect i haven’t figured out yet. maybe angharad is joe’s actual wife ( not that it stops him from being a fucking creep ) and the derby is her passion project that she uses as an excuse to get away from him…. only his company sponsors the team and he always has his people watching them “for their protection” so not even that is safe from him.

now i don’t know much about star wars so idk how i would even go about making jack a verse for it but the idea that immortan joe would be the equivalent to whatever the fuck type of creature jabba is is admittedly very funny

thinking about how colin gibson (furiosa production designer) said that red is the color of love and the heart, and how that color symbolism carries over into the little details of jack’s character. he has red fabric on his boots. a red blanket he sleeps with. the boomstick he gifts furiosa has red streaked on the grip. the valiant, the car they were going to use to escape together, has a red interior and chipped red paint. if love is red then so is jack. after watching furiosa suffer at the hands of cruel men for years, the way jack arrives and bleeds love back into an otherwise bleary and unkind story makes me insane.

i do love that furiosa (2024) said “this is the citadel’s best driver. he possesses all the skills necessary to dominate the road war and famously has never once lost the booty” and then gave us the most tender guy with the saddest eyes imaginable

saw a reply on a jack gifset once that (lovingly) called jack a nepo baby of the citadel because his parents were og followers of colonel moore and like first off. that’s funny. but also– if he’s a nepo baby, he’s at least the jack quaid version, where even tho he might have gotten his start because of privilege, it kind of cancels out because he’s actually really fucking good at his job.
