my favorite thing about all this ao3 discourse are all these people going “we don’t care what you write sweatie we just want you to write it somewhere else, why can’t you go make an archive of your own to post all your nasty fics on?” because the level of ignorance in basic fandom history shown right there is just astounding.

by demanding that the people who ao3 was l i t e r a l l y made by and for stop using the site and go somewhere else you’re pretty much performing the fandom equivalent of being invited into someone’s house and then five minutes into the visit screaming at them to get out of your home and find somewhere new to live.

peak brain of me yesterday to call antis and the current state of fandom an HOA. not only because it fits but because it gives a more tangible, real quality to it. Fandom is a neighborhood and we all have our own homes in it. My yard doesn't pass inspection. My house is bright and colorful and not to the HOA's tastes. They can tell me to change it but legally they don't have a leg to stand on

I've said it before but I need to say it again,

"PROSHIP" IS NOT SHORT FOR "PROBLEMATIC SHIP"

The "pro" does NOT mean "problematic". The "pro" is a prefix that means "pro": favoring, supporting, or championing (Merriam-Webster).

"Proship" is an adjective that describes someone/something as being in favor/support of/championing shipping, including ships generally considered to be "problematic". Just because someone or some group is proship, does not mean they have any problematic ships.

The idea that the "pro" is short from "problematic" and that the word "proship" is a noun that means "problematic ship" is relatively recent and was created by antis.

It's spread to the point that I've started seeing fellow shippers in proship spaces use the word "proship" like a noun, or to describe other people who ship things that are "problematic".

Sure, language naturally evolves over time, I get it, but we cannot let "problematic ship" become a new meaning of "proship". It sends the message that anyone who is proship MUST have "problematic" interests/ships, which is not only not true, but exactly what antis want people to think.

I know using "proship" like that is convenient but please, there is a word for this. Comship. If you want a word for a ship that's generally considered taboo and problematic, the word you're looking for is "comship". If you want a word to describe someone/something as having interests/ships that are generally considered taboo and problematic, the word you're looking for is "comship".

If you're worried people don't know what "comship" means, you can always just say "problematic ship" or "taboo ship". My point is,

"Proship" does not mean "problematic ship".

"Proship" means "Proship".

Radinclus is specifically a queer term. Did the dni have queer labels on it too? If not, then I don't see the hypocrisy, even if 93 items is EXTREMELY absurd to expect and unrealistic to enforce

Interesting, thanks for telling me that about radinclus, I didn't know it was specifically queer.

I went back to find that blog and carrd, and assuming queer refers to sexualities and gender identities and things related to those, it doesn't seem that any of those items contradict radinclus. I will say, I wasted at least an hour looking up some of those items to see what they meant and went down a rabbithole of identities I don't have the brain cells to comprehend. Not to mention coming across a good portion of identities with the "this does not support proshippers"/"anti proshippers".
