Shiny Hunters Are Destroying the Ecosystem, Says Pokémon Professor
Recently, an interview with Pokémon Professor Rosa Lee-Lin reveals her thoughts on shiny hunters.
"With more widespread knowledge of breeding and better technologies, many trainers have taken a liking to hunt for these differently-coloured Pokémon," Lee-Lin explains. "However, soon, many trainers would find themselves with tons of Pokémon they do not want to take care of."
Lee-Lin says most of these trainers simply release them into the wild in mass numbers. Although most of these newly bred Pokémon usually cannot survive (which infuriates lots of activists, but that is a topic for another day), a lot still do, and this causes irreversible damage to the local wildlife, and may affect humans living nearby as well.
Tom Finch, a Pokémon shelter worker in Hoenn , agrees. "A couple years ago this situation isn't as bad. Now everyday we have people sending in waves of unwanted Pokémon," he says. "Just a few days ago, someone has caught a person releasing large numbers of Buizel into the local river. Had they not been stopped in time, it is highly possible that it would have destroyed the river ecosystem, and may cause extensive damage as an invasive species. Moreover, Buizel can get territorial, and the local people around here might get hurt."
Finch further elaborated on how shelters are getting overwhelmed by Pokémon who have been surrendered by shiny hunters.
Although many governments in various regions have been drafting up laws and bills to keep shiny hunters in check, Lee-Lin, Finch, and many other people agree that not enough is being done, and enforcement should be strengthened as well.

Is it weird to give my gardevoir a human bed to sleep in? He's an unusually tall specimen and needs space to stretch out. But people give me a funny look sometimes when I say he has his own bed. Is it ok for humanoid pokemon to sleep in a bed or should I be looking for other options.
if your gardevoir is happy and has enough room, then who cares what his bed looks like? plenty of people let their pokemon curl up in bed with them or even get them miniature versions of human beds because it's hilarious to see a pokemon on a doll-sized bed.
people can be really weird about the "humanoid" pokemon, but as long as you aren't anthropomorphizing your pokemon or treating him like he's a human being, there's nothing wrong with using tools designed for humans to meet his needs. wild gardevoir are known to make large beds for themselves by layering leaves; this is a perfectly suitable substitute for that.

Hey, a fellow humane society worker here! (Not Paldean though, I work at a smaller one over at Flocessy Town, Unova) And apologies for using your ask box to get this out to more people, but this needs to be said.
With Easter coming up in like a month over here in Unova (I doubt you guys in Paldea celebrate it), PLEASE for the love of Arc and everything that is holy, DO NOT ADOPT A POKEMON LIKE SCORBUNNY, BUNNELBY, AND ESPECIALLY BUNEARY IF YOU ARE NOT OR CAN NOT TAKE CARE OF IT!!!
We already are swamped enough coming off our yearly Applin intake from Valentines, but having so many Buneary, Bunnelby, and the occasional Scorbunny dumped on us because people adopt them as an "Easter Pokémon" and then quickly find out that they aren't able to properly take care of them.
I kid you not, I have at least two or three broken ribs per year because of Bunearys alone. And small side tangent about Buneary, do not go and adopt them just because they're cute. Contrary to what you think, they will not love you almost immediately. Just because they evolve via friendship, doesn't mean that they will make it easy for you. In reality they are highly territorial, easily angered, and tremendously stubborn Pokémon. So please DO YOUR ARC DAMN RESEARCH! No matter what time of year it is you're looking to adopt. Sincerely, every single humane society and shelter worker in existence. (Apologies again, Charlie!)
oh, dude, i totally get it. we've gotten our share of easter bunnelby and scorbunny, since kalos and galar aren't too far and easter is a huge holiday in paldea. thankfully we don't see many buneary, since they're definitely the hardest to care for in a shelter. i would never let a volunteer handle one- and i'd DEFINITELY never give one to a child to take care of.
this also extends to easter ducklett and torchic. i'm so thankful for our local farmers who help us foster the inevitable influx of the poor little guys after easter.

The Bronx Zoo has just released Flaco's necropsy results.
He was not thriving, as the people championing the ideal of "freedom" claimed.
He was poisoned.
He was sick.
He was suffering.
"Freedom" would have eventually killed him. A building just happened to do it first.
"Postmortem testing has been completed for Flaco, the Eurasian eagle owl that was found down in the courtyard of a Manhattan building a little over a year after his enclosure at the Central Park Zoo was vandalized on February 2, 2023. Onlookers reported that Flaco had flown into a building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan on February 23, 2024, and acute trauma was found at necropsy. Bronx Zoo veterinary pathologists determined that in addition to the traumatic injuries, Flaco had two significant underlying conditions. He had a severe pigeon herpesvirus from eating feral pigeons that had become part of his diet, and exposure to four different anticoagulant rodenticides that are commonly used for rat control in New York City. These factors would have been debilitating and ultimately fatal, even without a traumatic injury, and may have predisposed him to flying into or falling from the building. The identified herpesvirus can be carried by healthy pigeons but may cause fatal disease in birds of prey including owls infected by eating pigeons. This virus has been previously found in New York City pigeons and owls. In Flaco’s case, the viral infection caused severe tissue damage and inflammation in many organs, including the spleen, liver, gastrointestinal tract, bone marrow, and brain. No other contributing factors were identified through the extensive testing that was performed. Flaco’s severe illness and death are ultimately attributed to a combination of factors—infectious disease, toxin exposures, and traumatic injuries—that underscore the hazards faced by wild birds, especially in an urban setting."
The naturalistic fallacy kills animals in horrible ways. The romanticism of what humans want to think of as a "free, wild, pure life" cannot be allowed supplant the reality of injury, sickness, and death. Releasing captive animals (or keeping them from being recaptured) because it's "better" for them to suffer untethered than live a healthy, safe, captive life is inhumane and horrific.
Flaco's life didn't have to end in pain, sickness, and suffering.
Flaco's death didn't have to be tragic.
But once the idea of "freedom" entered the chat, Flaco's fate was unavoidable.

NEWS: Boy Who Is "As Quiet As a Stalking Purrloin" Revealed To Be Zorua
On the bright, sunny morning in Nuvema Town on the 21st of September, Mr. David Davis had stumbled upon the "Mystery Boy" who has been lurking around in the town in the forest for a few weeks prior to this incident. He was shifting back into his natural form--apparently a Zorua. Alarmed, Mr. Davis quickly reported to local authorities.
Investigations were quickly carried out, and it has been determined the Zorua has meant no harm. "This Zorua is young. By nature, it is playful and inclines towards practical jokes. We think this little one must have been lost and most likely distressed as Zorua aren't usually found in Nuvema Town," one of the researchers have explained.
The Zorua will be kept in the local Small Pokémon Clinic for further checkups before being released back into the wild, with the date depending on his conditions.
Mr. David Davis was retained for suspicions for illegal poaching, but was later released due to lack of evidence. The locals have expressed very verbally to "keep an eye on him".

my 5 year old daughter is obsessed with stunky. her birthday party was stunky themed. she wears a little stunky costume everywhere. she makes stunky noises. she carries a stunky plush around everywhere. obviously i am not getting her one yet because they're not a pet for a 5 year old. we visit them at zoos and sanctuaries from a safe distance though. she looks forward to getting "old like my mommies" so she can have a stunky of her very own. anyway she wants you to know if you get a stunky when she turns 11 she wants it. i'm sure you'll remember this in 6 years. /lie
i am making a note in my phone calendar right this second for you daughter. thank you so much for encouraging her to engage in her love for stunky in a safe and age-appropriate way!

Some regions have been putting forth laws against trainers abandoning, neglecting, or expressing significant dislike towards Pokémon that have evolved. This can count as Pokémon abuse, and to the askers asking this, you can serve a sentence and most definitely at least pay a hefty fine as well as having your Pokémon revoked to shelters or other organisations.
Eevee especially suffer a lot from this, as they are naturally supposed to evolve and may feel uncomfortable or perhaps even painful when forcefully prevented to do so when they so desire. Dr. Li, a researcher and volunteer at many rescue projects, recalls many cases of unhappy and abused Eevee.
Common victims to such sad practices and beliefs (this is only a small part of the list):
Pikachu
Eevee (two examples can already be seen in this post already)
Togepi
Scorbunny
Sprigatito
Fuecoco
Quaxly
Fennekin
Bidoof
Yamper
(and many more)
Organisations against Pokémon abuse, experts and authorities urge you to report such cases as soon as you acquire a suspicion!
HELP PLEASE MY EEVEE WONT STOP EVOLVING NO MATTER HOW MANY EVERSTONES I GIVE HER SHE WONT STOP DROPPING THEM AND ATTEMPTING TO EVOLVE-
LET! YOUR! EEVEE! EVOLVE!
ITS THE EVOLUTION POKÉMON. ITS THE POKÉMON THAT EVOLVES A LOT. THATS ITS THING. WHY aren't you letting your eevee lution
