This is a slow fandom zone
None of that "Oh no they bomb-dropped all the episodes in a week 1 month ago, I'm late!" "The tag hasn't been active all week is the fandom dead?" "I only got a hundred shares the first hour no one cares about my art"
Slow down
Take a deep breath and slow down
Fandom is YOU. And me and everyone. If we doodle stick figures for a show that ended 30 years ago we aren't "late" or "doing too little", we're playing dolls in our own time and having fun with works of art that mean a lot to us
You can literally watch and engage with something that aired in 2004 as if it aired yesterday
If the tag hasn't been active for 14 months guess what? If YOU post there, it isn't dead. Literally you can talk about anything you want whenever you want there is no weird law against watching things that people aren't actively talk about
Let's be deranged about stories together

in the old times of fandom there were many different ways to name a ship. if you were feeling lazy you could just do name/name or namexname. you could have your portmanteaus, à la spirk. you could have your homestuck style TwoNames naming convention. you might occasionally get your more creative names like wolfstar. and some fandoms would be absolutely obsessed with initials and brevity; why have erik/christine when you could be E/C? in 2014 we all collectively discovered creative tumblr tagging systems and so every ship on here was called shit like #otp: i am the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition. in 2018 every ship was called Shenanigans Bros or a random pair of barely connected nouns that were completely inscrutable to anyone who wasn't in the discord server where somebody made it up. in 2024 we have realised our madness of recent years and attempted to throw it back to the good old days, but we have done so without regard for restoring the diversity of the ecosystem and so every ship has a portmanteau regardless of whether the names actually sound good together. by this i mean i just saw a ship poll that just referred to jesus/judas as JEDUS?????????
#as someone who was raised in the pits of the glee fandom you will pry my portmanteaus out of my cold dead hands#they’re the most accessible option for someone who’s new and trying to find the fandom#when I first got into worth it I just searched standrew bc it was the simplest way I could think of to find Steven/andrew content#and it worked#there it was#the whole fandom for me to discover#I’m sorry but someone who’s new to watcher would never think of searching for skepticbeliever

Fictional Epistolary Works
Round 1
Emily of New Moon :
it's mostly narrative but in between chapters of narration there are journal entries that detail her opinion of what happened that day. it's a really charming look inside her head that's based on the author's own diaries and feels very authentic
Anne of Windy Poplars :
I love this book so much. people say it's not really part of the anne of green gables series because it was written later to fill a gap in time during the series when anne and gilbert are apart (and I think americans published it under the name anne of windy willows?), but it's made up entirely of letters anne writes to gilbert during these 3 years and it's so sweet. I read this when I'm sad or lonely and it feel like I'm hearing from an old friend.
there's a particular bit i love where anne says:
"So I'm going to keep this hour sacred to writing to you. Though this won't be a love-letter. I have a scratchy pen and I can't write love-letters with a scratchy pen...or a sharp pen...or a stub pen. So you'll only get that kind of letter from me when I have exactly the right kind of pen."
and later in the book there's a section that goes:
"It's wonderful to think we're young and have our whole lives before us...together... isn't it?"
"(Several pages omitted. Anne's pen being evidently neither sharp, stub nor rusty.)"

met the phone pals irl for the first time last night and I feel so full of love. some of them I’ve known for almost seven years and it was wonderful to be able to hug them and hear their voices.
I’m just emotional about making human connections over being not normal about two idiots who stand in empty rooms at night 😭😭😭

(The first letter ends with heart the other one is with love, but Ryan of course knows better what Shane means by that.)

I mean, an emphatic period is just a‐ it’s just an exclamation point. I didn’t want to seem desperate.

Hey, also, all the anarchist shit aside, tomorrow I want you to make something.
I forced myself to draw something after the 2016 election. I forced myself to draw something when my mother died in 2018. I forced myself to draw something when my spouse was hospitalized for multiple organ failure in 2021.
When you are miserable, make something. Add a row to your project, bake a box cake, draw on a sheet of lined paper, write a poem on a napkin, fold an origami shirt out of a dollar bill, make your favorite recipe for dinner, but make something with your hands, something that you can hold and look at engage your senses in.
It won't fix the world, but it will change the world. You will have made something that didn't exist before. You will have impacted your reality, even in a very small way. And it is going to be something you made *after.* Something bad happened, something shook you, and you made something after, in spite of it.
