the fact that house and wilson rode off into the sunset together to face a future of cancer-ridden pain is one of my greatest sources of sadness

"If You Touch My Little Brother, You’re All Dead" is one of those things that makes you go, "were you on crack when you made this? crack?" but it's so funny. they are all incredibly demented. shake u in my tube.

My silly little hill to die on is that Kabru's initial read of Laios's character is fundamentally accurate.
Certainly when you are introduced to Kabru, all you've seen is a fairly lighthearted comedy where the characters are trying to save Falin. So when Kabru presents this shockingly negative read of the Touden siblings, your reaction is gonna be "geez, what an asshole." Or perhaps lump it in to his general misapprehension that the party has repeatedly aggroed Kabru's group. How could he misjudge them so badly? Laios is just a funny little autistic man who loves to cook!
Except... he's not. Over the course of the story you find out that like, yeah, Laios will occasionally make rash and dangerous decisions because of his interest in monsters. And then DM takes it in a serious direction, too, where you find out that actually Laios is a pretty bitter guy with parental trauma, who had a shitty childhood, and as a result he's kind of a misanthrope! He cares about Falin a lot, and his party some, but yeah, he doesn't really like other people. He and Kabru are character foils in this way. The Winged Lion even calls him on this, that he used to "fantasize about a pack of monsters attacking a village". And while Laios is older and a little more mature, and so understands that this would be a bad thing to do, it's enough of a "desire" for the Winged Lion to jump on it. So, you know, I think it's reasonable that Kabru (the guy whose village was wiped out by monsters, whose entire motivation is preventing that from happening here) has some concerns about this personality trait.
And like man, the really telling point is that big cliffhanger at the very end of the story. Laios puts aside his desires, or exploits them, in order to defeat the Winged Lion, who curses him to never achieve his heart's desire. And you're like, uh oh! Because of course, the goal the party has been going for throughout the entire run is resurrecting Falin. Does this mean he'll never see his sister again? Nope! Because Laios's heart's desire isn't to save his sister (who he does love!) it's to be around monsters. The fact that he has to give this up at the end is a personal, permanent sacrifice.
I don't think any of this makes Laios a bad person, btw--it makes him interesting. Most of the cast have secret selfish desires. And also, like, I think there's kind of an interesting thing of, he makes the selfless choice anyway, so does it actually matter if he "feels" the correct way? But when Kabru says he doesn't "give a damn about others," it's blunt, it's uncharitable, and it's correct.

I GOT A FIELD. I somehow made a Paddy, which combined with Rice makes a field (instead of a rice paddy?)
Don't remember how I made a Paddy, but also found that Farm + Earth = Field, Town + Earth = Farm, House + House = Town.
Field + Plant = Corn, Field + Field = Grass, Field + Farm = Corn, Field + Farm = Hay... still having trouble with getting noodles.
idk how I managed these but. yay?

I love villainesses isekais because they always open to some shit like "I've reincarnated as Evilla Von Lily, the empire's only princess and I'm destined to die after becoming affianced to Prince Rytius de Citrus?!?!?" and you think ok so just not marry him, right. Cant be that hard? But then chapter 1 in kicks in like " Evilla, sweetie your father and I are sooo glad you're marrying your Highness prince Rytius otherwise all these 56 orphans we tend to would spontaneously combust. Like, immediately. don't ask, we dont know how either. anyways proud of you" and youre like oh shit evilla

so throughout Dungeon Meshi Thistle is trying to find Delgal. that's explicitly why the red dragon exists
Tumblr media
but Thistle isn't just looking for Delgal, afterwards they're going to do something together. by this point Thistle is too far gone to remember what exactly that is, but it's important enough to him that the desire hasn't fully been devoured
Tumblr media
in Thistle's house he has everyone's bodies set up around the family dining table. this is very likely the exact same table from his flashback since just behind Delgal you can see an identical hearth, log stacks, and tree painting in the present day home. Thistle is very into keeping things preserved after all
Tumblr media
in fact the dining table is so important to Thistle it's one of the last things he remembers as the Winged Lion eats the last of his desires
Tumblr media
after the Winged Lion eats him Thistle is left alive but fully catatonic. though the closing chapters Yaad is taking care of Thistle and trying to get him to wake up. when he finally rouses it's in response to hearing the Golden Kingdom kids calling for "his majesty" (Laios) to come eat with them
Tumblr media
CONCLUSION: Delgal was late for dinner. after Thistle found him they were going to have a nice family dinner, just like they had been doing for decades

Binge-read Dungeon Meshi and it was Good. Super funny how it made both hand-holding and kissing into reproductive acts. Can't believe that one post about Laios' faces totally skims over how the silliest one is from something straight out of Black Mirror. Gonna take a while to digest all the themes, esp. the stuff about privileges of the living. Might have to buy the hardcopy sometime.

Love how the devs of Nexomon Extinction made a running gag about the typical rpg protag and how their "odd" behaviors aren't ever brought up by the other characters and accidentally made one of the most autistic protags to exist
