MS in Biology (EcoEvo) • 30F • I have no idea what I’m doing 90% of the time. Sometimes I draw things. Icon is from @link-is-a-dork. Blog title is from Vermillion Gym in Pokémon FRLG. (I rarely use desktop and I don’t remember what state I left my desktop appearance in. But it’s probably bad. Sorry.)

Parrots are wild because you will go into a household where they have a parrot named Paco or something who knows how to sing "if you're happy and you know it clap your hands" and repeats swear words at random intervals, and you will be indulging this bird like a toddler then learn said bird is older than you, older than your mother, hell, probably even older than your grandma.
They're like tiny, ancient tricksters and I love them so much.

I genuinely think the idea that if you should draw a little every day or you'll suffer skill degradation is a total fabrication. Some of the best art I've ever drawn has been coming back from long breaks. I'm talking like weeks. Sometimes you just gotta reset and flush the systems. There's no shame in it. Take breaks. The art will be there for you when you're ready.

At long last, I am really excited to release Version 2.0 of my poster featuring some of the endemic frogs of Madagascar, to scale!
This Christmas, give the gift of frogs! Spruce up your workspace! Decorate your bedroom! Make it clear to those entering your space that this is a Frog Friendly Zone.
This version adds the species I photographed on my latest trip, bringing the total to 176 species—40 more than version 1.1 (now retired)! It spans the full size spectrum, from giants over 100 mm, to the tiny Mini mum and Stumpffia tridactyla; the shape spectrum, from the rotund Rhombophryne testudo, to the angular Plethodontohyla guentheri, to the gracile Gephyromantis lomorina; and the full spectrum of colour, from reds, oranges, yellows, greens, and even a few blues (not to mention a rich, rich variety of browns!).
These are less than half of the known species from Madagascar (total as of 13 August 2025: 433), and many species shown are still awaiting taxonomic description.
Posters (I strongly recommend the largest size, or else you might not be able to read the names) are available from my RedBubble.
If you get one, I would love to see where it gets hung! Send pictures!

I'll always talk up internet radio stations because I don't think the average person is aware that they're free, can run in your browser (or in any program that can connect to them), work on your phone, run better than a youtube tab, and give you a much better selection of music than you could get from a general algorithmic playlist
(also lots of them have live shows which you can tune into for free)

I give it three months tops before a data breach leads to a public figure in the UK being outed for visiting niche porn sites because they uploaded their ID in order to access it and the site's data security is absolute dogshit

Hey is sneezing just a mammal thing or do other kind of animals do it too? I've seen a tortoise snore, but it just occurred to me that I've never seen a bird or reptile sneeze.

Did anyone ever like attempt to document and compile the variations of Barney the dinosaur murder ballads across the elementary school system in the early 2000s. Like legit it has always fascinated me as a phenomena and I would love to know if there were like traceable regional variations or what.
#region it was learned should be included with this#i don’t remember the murder method used in ours#but that one wasn’t as popular as the other#child lore#barney the dinosaur#ballads though what a great way to word it

You see I too often sat in school classes and thought “when am I ever going to need this, I’m never going to be an engineer, I’m never gonna be a scientist, I’m never gonna be a linguist” and then I grew up and it turns out a lot of bigots and cults and scams and grifts hinge their entire business model on you just. Not knowing what a protein is or some shit
