can't stop thinking that when Ody is at the end of his rope on Calypso's island, crying "all I hear are screams" and the voices of his ghosts flood his mind, it's because that is all he hears. Since Calypso knows their words, there's a chance she's been quoting them for years, which means that over seven years stranded on that island with less and less hope of ever leaving, Odysseus has been hearing his dead friends and mother over and over again, until finally that is all he hears. His guilt over their loss can only build, and with virtually no way to take really any sort of action, all he can do is drown in his own faults and failures as Calypso keeps reminding him of what he's lost with the words she speaks.
