Top 8 Must-Watch Cop Shows
This blog complies a list of cop shows that I recommend to anyone who is new to the genre or is familiar but looking for a new show to pick up.
Follow, like and reblog for more content like this 🐖
———————————————————————————
    1    The Wire (2002–2008)
Tumblr media
A deep, gritty portrayal of law enforcement, crime, and politics in Baltimore, often considered one of the best TV shows of all time.
Starting the list of strong with a show placed in my own city of Baltimore Maryland. The Wire has been considered an amazing show because of not just nature but the hands-on and realistic approach it takes on the crime life in the inner city.  Focusing on different aspects of the city, with the first season taking a peek into police detail's investigation into the drug trade, and later  seasons expanding into different  points of society and how they interact with law enforcement.
    2    Law & Order: SVU (1999–present)
Tumblr media
A long-running procedural that focuses on solving sex crimes, with a focus on victims’ rights and sensitive treatment of difficult topics.
The second in this list is a series that  follows the Special Victims Unit (SVU), a division of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) that handles sensitive and high-profile crimes involving sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, and other sexual offenses. While the material can be graphic to watch and understand, what is rewarding is seeing the lengths these detectives go to in order to stop the violent crimes from happening. The tone of this show is very heavy because of the content but audiences can see how dedicated these detectives are to the victims.
    3    9-1-1 (2018-present)
Tumblr media
The  series follows the lives of the first responders in Los Angeles, focusing on the personal and professional lives of 9-1-1 operators, paramedics, firefighters, and police officers.
The third show in this list 9-1-1 is a gripping and emotional police and emergency drama that provides a unique look at the lives of first responders while delivering action-packed rescues and heart-wrenching personal stories. The best part about 9-1-1 is that it takes you on the journey  throughout each emergency  from the first 9-1-1 call that dispatch receives, to the first officer on sight ,all the way through the paramedics and firefighters completing the rescue. Audiences meet many characters that show how these high stakes careers take a toll on their mental health and follow  our protagonist in everyday life decisions.
    4    Castle (2009–2016)
Tumblr media
A witty and charming show where a mystery novelist teams up with a tough NYPD detective to solve murders.
The fourth show is about a famous mystery novelist who teams up with a New York City homicide detective to solve real-life murders. Castle uses his creative mind and investigative skills to help Beckett and her team solve complex cases while drawing inspiration for his books. This show is one that pulls out all the stops. The show is very comedic in its makeup but does have some serious moments sprinkled throughout. The juxtaposition of Kate the detective being very stern and dismissive to castle theories  while Castle theories prove correct because he doesn't limit himself to think within a police procedural way. Their different ways of thinking combine to solve the cases every time.
    5    The Rookie (2018–present)
Tumblr media
A fresh take on the cop drama, focusing on a man in his 40s who becomes a rookie cop in the LAPD, navigating the challenges of late-life policing.
The fifth place on this list is dedicated to a show about a middle-aged man who, after a robbery encounter changes his life forever ,our protagonist decides to leave his small-town life and pursue his dream of becoming a police officer in the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). This show is quite enjoyable because this show focuses on the mundane everyday disturbances that police officers are often called in for and the confinements in which police officers deal with in order to provide civil service.
    6    Bones (2005-2017)
Tumblr media
The show focuses on a partnership between Dr. Brennan and Agent Booth as they solve murder cases, often working with skeletal remains and other physical evidence to identify victims and determine how they were killed.
The sixth show blends elements of crime, drama, and comedy, and is centered around forensic anthropology, with a strong emphasis on solving murders by analyzing skeletal remains. Bones takes place in a federal crime lab in Washington D.C. With an anthropologist who specializes in bones and using them to discover the truth of crime. While working with her partner who uses her discovery with the bones to make more grounded steps to catch the killers. The anthologist is very literal and misses many social and emotional cues which adds to the characters approaches to the cases and work relationships
    7    CSI: Miami(2002-2012)
Tumblr media
A spinoff of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and follows a team of forensic investigators working for the Miami-Dade Police Department as they solve crimes using forensic science and cutting-edge technology.
The  seventh show is set in Miami, Florida, and it is known for its vibrant cinematography, often highlighting the city's sunny, tropical backdrop. The series has a distinctive style, with fast-paced action sequences and a mix of drama and suspense. This show while following the pursuit of many others brings a heavy focus into the forensics that goes on heading the scene. The show focuses on the sunny location of Miami which makes for lots of fast cases that happen from the beach to parties and many more occasions. This setting shakes up the cold gritty feeling of traditional cop shows based in New York for a more diverse approach .
    8    Criminal minds (2005-2020)
Tumblr media
The show is centered around the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) of the FBI, which specializes in profiling and analyzing the psychological behavior of criminals in order to solve complex cases, often involving serial crimes such as murder, kidnapping, and arson
The eighth and final show  team uses a combination of criminal psychology, investigative techniques, and behavioral science to predict and track down offenders. The show is known for its dark, suspenseful atmosphere, as well as the depth of the characters and the exploration of criminal minds. Criminal minds really try to unearth the psychology between the criminals and their acts. Catching the criminal is just as important as why they choose the crime they did to commit. This show really shows that the darkness of human nature lies in anyone.

WHAT'S  WITH THE BAD COP PLOT LINE?
Tumblr media
The “bad cop” storyline has been around for a little while but I find it most present on those cop shows that portray the life of beat cops also known as patrol officers but never a detective or investigator. This storyline is set up oh so innocently, when there is a new rookie who we are being introduced to or an officer who has served some time but only now do our protagonist find out their true nature. This first example comes from season 8 ep 7 of the ABC show 9-1-1, where Sergeant Athena Grant is given a younger rookie who has freshly graduated out the police academy who she is expected to lead to greatness. This turns left when the new rookie named Sparks speaks about the power he feels when doing his civil duties. This makes Athena question him but she is instructed to dismiss the comment. Later on she is vindicated in those thoughts, when after being taunted at by a civilian multiple times Sparks decided to pull out his taser and gun and then proceed to shoot the woman on the count of some very questionable reason.
These episodes serve as some short-form propaganda, but that's if you are not considering the genre as a whole is propaganda. In reality there are cops who love the power and authority that being an officer does for their selfish desires. There are many officers who let implicit biases control their next reaction to situations. At the same time there are officers who are sworn to protect and serve like every single protagonist in one of these shows does. This plot is just to remind you of how different, smart and good the cops we are seeing in comparison to the bad cop.  At the end of the episode, we are reminded that Athena is a great cop for seeing that he was not ready to be out on the field and for then asking for a new rookie because she wants to teach rookies to be better. In order to prevent them from making life altering decisions like Sparks. This plot was used in The Rookie season 3 Episode 13 as well, just with a more seasoned officer which made it hard for the protagonist to find justice. When the bad cop is already loved and respected by his sergeant.
Thus showing us that in this fictional world these cops do not go under the radar and get their deserved punishments. This totally different parallel to real life where it seems we the public, see on the news, social media and hear real stories of people being treated unfairly or being harmed at the hands of law enforcement workers. Despite there being a clear violation of the citizens’ rights or officers using fear as a weapon to hold over civilians. Despite being civil servants, their job is to protect and serve those same people.

- platform
I decided to move my platform to tumblr because I will be able to have more complete thoughts without having to condense down the material as much to fit the word counts.
-format
I decided to go back and edit the material to ensure there was a better reading experience. Many people like a smaller burst of text compared to a long stack piece of reading because it can seem overwhelming when scrolling through social media.

You know that  genre of shows, with a tortured soul who puts their life on the line every day, then the other guy who uses their badge for their selfish desires, and do not forget the random person who is about to marry the love of their  life who disappear the day of the wedding .These are all story lines or plot points of a cop show or investigative  drama.

I would not be opposed to it , I feel the characters could have some intriguing moments together
Why do people want a crossover with The Rookie and 911?
To me personally it doesn't make any sense. Now that I know they are both set in LA I still don't see the appeal. Not to be a hater or anything but I think that would happen and I personally don't want to see it happen.
