Being able to recycle characters for a modern fantasy story I’ve been working on for the last eight months is fantastic. I have characters from MIDDLE SCHOOL that I’ve been able to redesign/update for this story. A vampire character who by and large was inspired by both the Phantom of the Opera and the vampires in the Vampire Chronicles has gone from being a tenor in an opera house whose entire coven lived in the opera’s cellars has transformed into a 2000 year old Ancient Roman war machine trying to adapt to modern day after waking from a hundred year old sleep.

The Persian - Phantom of the Opera
—
The first prize from November’s giveaway~! Dear @timebird84 requested a character that’s sadly not present in the film-adaption of the book Phantom of the Opera. Just saying, they missed out on this handsome dude, imo.

Christine’s Countess / Rooftop dress
(Names and locations in captions. Note: The costume for the Norway production is actually from a promo video and is not what is actually used in the show; I just couldn’t find a decent capture of Norway’s Countess dress - it’s basically the dressing gown from the first lair scene anyway.)
Bonus - Vesela Delcheva, Bulgaria (not from the actual rooftop scene, but it is the same costume):

It’s been quiet here on my Tumblr, but @tallestsilver did inspire me to record some more Phantom-y noises again. And so suggested an excerpt from Susan Kay’s novel, which ended up being delightful to sit in the ol’ booth and record. Did you think that I had left you for good…? Music: ‘Insanity’ by Lucas King

This was SUCH an incredible night. I really do hope he comes back next year.
One of the coolest things he said was in regards to things we enjoy. He said there’s no such thing as high art or low art, and if we feel an emotional resonance to anything from a painting to a bumper sticker, it’s valid.
I am so honored to have seen Guillermo Del Toro tonight. It was such an amazing experience to see him speak. I wasn’t able to approach him, partially because he was being approached by other classmates and I was a little beyond starstruck, but being able to say I sat five feet away from quite possibly my favorite director was amazing. Complete inspiration. I wish I could have gotten his autograph, but he said he might come back next year! I hope so.
