We just delivered this small appreciation to our local Police station. On behalf of everyone at Pets Haven, kindness is not just about animals, it includes people. Let’s be kinder and respectful to one another, not just today, but everyday. Kinder to all emergency, medical and just every day people. It really takes no effort in being nice and respectful xx https://www.instagram.com/p/B_Ti6wilCnY/?igshid=yl0zrnxcep2z

We are extremely excited and would like to share this news with you. Pets Haven has been rescuing animals from very rural areas for many years now. This journey had been great. We have all had some sad times including the stress that’s our pound partners feel. We have always wanted to do something more, we are starting phase one today. Firstly, these very rural areas and awesome pound rangers have limited support services, they work extremely hard and are often under immense pressure. Our very first veterinary rural run is happening right now, we will be on the road for many hours, the vet teak will sleep over night in a motel and start the daily visits tomorrow morning. We will meet with rangers, see what their struggles are with the pure intent in being able to not only just rescue these animals but to support and provide supplies. We have put together a veterinary list of supplies (parvovirus test kits ‘feline and canine” wormers, treatments for mange, treatments for gastro etc). Our rural mission - We want to assist in rescue and rehoming. We want to support rural councils and their rangers. We want to provide the veterinary assistance these animals may require. At the end of the day, we want to do a better job than what we have been doing. We know we cannot not make miracles happen, but we can at least try. We would like to thank a very special Ranger who we were so nervous in introducing this journey with. This particular Ranger, was so encouraging, he is one very special human being, he gave us the confidence we needed in starting this journey. Our vet team will stay over night and no doubt will be super exhausted, though they are looking forward in phase one of our rural partnership. Veterinary services and rescuing is an essential service xxx To our veterinary team please drive carefully and stay safe xx https://www.instagram.com/p/B_RbhyfFogC/?igshid=liby649wssnm

Lumps and Bumps There are many different things that can cause lumps or swellings including bruising or fluid build-up, abscesses, things attached to the skin (eg. parasites), insect bites (eg. wasp or bee stings) and, of course, cancers. If you find any unusual lump or swelling on your pet you should book an appointment with our clinic. One of our veterinarians will be able to examine it, measure it and then possibly get a sample from it to give you a better idea what the lump may be. Although most lumps are harmless, some can be very dangerous if left untreated, especially if they are cancers. While lumps and bumps are more common in older pets, younger pets can get them too. Most lumps and bumps are benign (non-cancerous), but some of them can be malignant (cancerous). The older your pet is, the higher their chance of getting malignant lumps. If you are worried about a suspicious lump on your cat or dog, book an appointment with our veterinary clinic ~it is better to be safe than sorry :( .... Poor Misha Here is a shelters cats journey ~ Misha presented last Wednesday morning after a foster carer noticed she was breathing fast and wasn’t herself. Prior to Misha being collected for foster care, an ultrasound was completed to confirm she was pregnant. It was suspected she was only half way. At this stage she was completely healthy. Then sadly on Wednesday morning a veterinarian assessed Misha noticing her extensive breathing, her gums were very pale, this poor cat was she was quiet and reluctant to get up, her heart rate was only 90bpm. A distressed cat should have been >180bpm at least. We quickly put her on IV fluids and repeated the ultrasound. It was found that one of the kittens (closest to the bifurcation of the uterus) was very unwell - with minimal movement and a very slow heart beat. The rest of the 5 kittens were very mobile and distressed with heart beats >240bpm. Misha was getting more and more flat by the minute so We decided we needed to go into surgery ASAP. We moved her over to surgery and preoxygenated her while we set up for surgery: anaesthetic machine, heat may, surgical kit, gloves, mask, gowns, towels (just in case kittens were of size), another oxygen line (just in case), hotties (just in case), etc. We clipped her belly and prepared her for surgery before sedating her just in case the kittens were viable. It was very important we placed Misha on the table angling her body downwards towards her tail. When pregnant animals are under anaesthetic the pressure of the belly can compromise the breathing - Misha was already breathing really fast. Misha was induced and we opened her up to find 6 kittens in the uterus. We had a team of 2 veterinarian and 2 nurses who assisted with this emergency surgery, plus an additional veterinary team should we needed assistance. Unfortunately the kittens didn’t have fur and were very premature, the kittens sadly did not make it. Mum cat did amazingly on recovery, only being a little cold. She was lucky not to have any haemorrhage. We are unsure what caused the kitten in her uterus to be unwell and cause mum cat distress. She was so young herself. But we are very lucky our foster carer https://www.instagram.com/p/B7j2lXblux2/?igshid=dyn569a8i5ar

Hi Guys I just need to pop in and request for people to please stop dropping off doonas and pillows. Our veterinary clinic, shelter and/or wild life carers cannot use this type of bedding. Our cleanaway bill has not doubled but tripled due to items being dropped off that we cannot use. To empty of cleanaway bin it costs us $180.00 - we are now doing this three times per week 😞 We cannot use the following - Doonas Pillows Old bedding - dirty, smelly, stained with urine etc Old pet beds especially covered in fur and dirty Old leads and collars Used bowls Clothes Shoes Raw meat Mattresses Plastic kennels Broken items - yesterday a broken cat scratching post was dropped off plus broken bowls Sleeping bags Trampoline beds - we have had 7 left at the shelter and each one was broken 😞 We know you all want to help but we are a little overwhelmed with items being dropped off or left at our clinic and shelter that we have no use for. If you would like to help please refer to the flyer we have prepared :) Thank you so much for your understanding xxxxx https://www.instagram.com/p/B7c3bkpFuwD/?igshid=1fvec26u7wg6x

******* PLEASE SHARE and HELP CAROL ******* Sweet Carol came into our care with a severe dry eye issue. Her eye was unable to produce tears and was ulcerated and extremely painful. Our Veterinary team decided that the kindest option was to remove her eye entirely. The operation was a huge success and while she was under they also removed some extra teeth in her mouth (her big girl teeth were through over the top of her baby teeth). Carol recovered brilliantly after her big surgery and is getting used to walking around with only the one eye. She will recover in foster care and is not ready for adoption yet, sorry. If you can assist us with the costs associated with Carol's extra surgeries, we would be so very grateful. Especially at this time of year when we are inundated with so many animals and so many special cases, like Carol. DONATE to Pets Haven Foundation and help us to continue the essential rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming work that we do. PayPal: [email protected] OR: Internet banking: Pets Haven Fund Account BSB:033 118 Account Number: 373 786 OR: Bpay Biller Code 223164 Reference Number 100016 All donations are given in good will and received with much gratitude <3 https://www.instagram.com/p/B6FhQN5F4Zd/?igshid=1e7l5rhk67bg1

Hi Guys Well Happy Monday ~ the first day back for many is nearly over. We thought we would take this opportunity in introducing ‘Bear’. You might see this little trouble maker, who by the way is completely adorable at our clinic. Bear is our newest Pets Haven family member (he is not available for adoption). Hopefully many of our regular clients and supporters will watch Bear grow into an amazing dog. Our little man is a much loved family pet who will eventually become a part of our therapy and wellness program. You might see Bear around with his amazing big brother Midnight. Have a wonderful week everyone xx #petshaven #petshavenveterinaryclinic #labrador #welovehim https://www.instagram.com/p/B4J8juzFS-U/?igshid=1igxwtvhsaf1
