CHAPTER THREE | BABY ON BOARD
ao3 | series masterlist | previous chapter | next chapter
five years ago, you stupidly had a fling with inarizaki athlete, miya atsumuβ now, present dayβ he had a son he knew nothing about. you made sure it was going to stay that way, but as fate would have it, he unexpectedly stumbled back into your lives, now as volleyballβs biggest star.
wc & notes: 3.5k β this chapter was originally going to be 7k+ words, but for my own sanity during editing i decided to split it in two different chapters instead! i also thought it would be easier to read in separate chapters instead of just one really condensed one so pls forgive me πΏ
The past twelve hours had been a whirlwind for Miya Atsumu.
His day started late, but not out of his own fault! He swore it. It was just because his alarm clock didnβt go off. At least thatβs what he told Coach Foster when he walked into practice late with a Starbucks frappuccino. But hey, at least he got one for everyone right? The team nutritionist yelled at him later for it because sugar wasnβt on the regiment, especially with the V-League season so soon. Hinata gladly slurped down the drink though, which consequently sent him into a sugar rush later. And once that happened, their coach chewed out Atsumu for the gingerβs erratic playing. It seemed like the scolding was neverending, but he shook it off as practice continued. He thought that the rest of the day was going to go on without any more hitches, up until he got a call from his brother.Β
βSheβs here right now with a kid. Heβs four years old, and I donβt think the fact he looks like ya is a coincidence.β
The air stilled, and despite the clamor and ruckus of the gym around him, all Atsumu heard was the ringing in his ears and the silence on Osamuβs end. A kid?
There was no way. Osamu was just messing with him, right? It was just a prank, Suna or one of their friends probably put him up to it. Thereβs no way thatβ¦ that he actuallyβ¦ He thought of you, something his mind hadnβt crossed paths with in awhile. You were just a girl who left him high and dry five years agoβ¦ without a word. He wanted to tell himself he wasnβt convinced, but something lurching in his stomach told him otherwise.
The denial didnβt stop Atsumu from abruptly running out of practice. He would deal with what the coaches had to say later.
FIVE YEARS AGO β INARIZAKI HIGH SCHOOL
βWhatβs up with ya?β Atsumu questioned, slumping down on the seat infront of your desk as he faced yours. βYer acting funny, ya sick or something?β
Atsumu couldnβt care less about the fact he was bothering you in the middle of class, all he could think about is how weird youβve been acting with him. He thought things were going good with you over the past few weeks, maybe a little too good considering you bothβ¦ He shook it off. Youβve been acting odd all week, suddenly barely sparing him a glance. Despite the fact you both werenβt dating, he had to admit it was bugging him more than it shouldβve.
βWhat makes you say that?β You responded, almost defensively. You didnβt look up from your math worksheet, and to anyone else, it would just look like you were focused on your work, but Atsumu knew you were distracted, you hadnβt moved from the same problem for over ten minutes.Β
βWell, ya barely have been talking to me this week first of all,β he scoffed, rolling his eyes. βAnd not to mention one of your friends told me you went home early yesterday because of food poisoning.β He didnβt mean to reveal that he had been asking around about you, but you didnβt seem to linger on it.
You fiddled with the pencil on your desk, clearly avoiding his eyes. βWhy does it matter to you? Itβs none of your business, Miya.β
Miya? Harsh.
βAnd here I thought ya liked me!β Atsumu replied, melodramatically clutching his chest as if he were wounded, albeit, his ego was admittedly a little bruised. βOf course what my girl does matters to me.β
You couldnβt help yourself from cracking a smile, and Atsumu considered it a victory.Β
βWeβre not even dating, we met a couple weeks ago,β you replied, shaking your head.Β
Atsumu rolled his eyes. Though, you were right, you had never made anything official. It was all just harmless fun, right?Β
βThat didnβt seem to matter when weββ
βBe quiet!β you hissed in embarrassment. Atsumu smirked when he noticed how flustered you got. When you realized Atsumu wasnβt going to let up, you gave him another sigh.Β
βI think Iβm just not feeling well, probably a stomach bug or something.β
βBlegh!β Atsumu replied, sticking out his tongue. βWell donβt give it to me!β
You bore a small grin at him. Atsumu smiled back, happy that he was at least able to make you feel a little better that day.
He didnβt think that would be the last time he ever saw you.
He was going to walk you home that day and he even considered finally formally asking you out. Granted, he probably should have done that before the⦠bathroom incident, but he digressed. He went to your classroom later only to find your desk empty. Your classmates already said you left and he shrugged it off. He would just wait until the next day.
Then you were absent the next day, and the day after.
Β It wasnβt until a whole week had passed where he felt himself starting to get worried.
You werenβt answering his texts, and after awhile, they didnβt even deliver anymore. He thought things were going well, at least to him they wereβ¦ Whatever, he wasnβt going to let it get to him. If you didnβt want to talk to him anymore, so be it, it wasnβt his problem. People walked out on him all the time. He repeated it like a mantra, whatever, whatever, whatever.
But it doesnβt stop him from thinking.
As the days progressed, he felt himself plunging deeper into his doubtful thoughts.Β You werenβt avoiding him on purpose were you? He didnβt realize how much it was getting to him until he missed practically every set during practice because he was too busy thinking of your smile at him instead of where Osamuβs hand was. He was tired of it, he finally decided he wasnβt going to wait for you to show up. He would get the answers himself.
Afterschool, he followed the trek to your house and stirred silently. Why was he even bothered this much about some girl he barely knew? You werenβt the first girl he was with, and he didnβt plan for you to be the last. So why was it bothering him so much? He wasnβt sure why, but it crept up his spine like a chill.Β
Miya Atsumu isnβt someone you can leave, heβs always made sure of it. Heβs never the one left behind. He doesnβt want to be.Β
He stood on your doorstep, deliberating with himself if it was even worth it. But he didnβt come all this way for nothing. Even if you told him to get lost, atleast it would put an end to his endless lamenting. It would be better than having you plague him like a damn fever. He knocked.
He doesnβt expect your mother to answer.
βWhat do ya mean she moved?β Atsumu asked in disbelief.
βSheβs gone to live with her grandmother in Kagawa,β your mother stated firmly. βI donβt think youβll be seeing her anytime soon.β
Before Atsumu could pry for any other details, your mother spoke again.
βDonβt ever come back to this house.β
Then the door was slammed in his face.
PRESENT DAY
Despite his best attempts at staying in denial, he realized that all the signs were there. You were getting sick, avoiding him, your sudden disappearance. He should have known something was wrong when your mother forbade him from coming back without a reason. His mind was a flurry as he rushed through the streets of Osaka. The little voice in the back of his head that was saying it was impossible was getting flooded out, it was entirely too possible.Β
In his rush inside Onigiri Miya, he was met with a body crashing into him. He looked down to see a horrified face infront of him, itβs yours. And in your arms, an unassuming boy that looked indisputably like him. A moment passed, as if the world stopped spinning on its axis. The panic seemed to be flooding out of your body and into the room. His mouth felt dry and whatever was spinning through his mind was suddenly a standstill. His gaze followed back to the boy, and his heart lurched.
There was no doubt about it, he had a son.
Even if you hadnβt told him, Atsumu could instinctively already tell, something in his gut just knew. He shared his smile, his brown eyes, and even his naturally dark hair that swept in the same way Atsumuβs did when he was that age. There was a piece of him out there, and he didnβt know all these years.
He barely choked out, βcould we talk?β
While you both spoke at the table together, and as he gazed at Haru playing with Osamu and your friend not far away, he found himself wondering so many questions. What had Haru looked like when he was a baby? What was he like? Was he more energetic and lively like him? Or more quiet and reserved like his brother was? Was anyone there to help you through the pregnancy? What were his first words? Did he ever ask about him once he was old enough to understand what a father was?
βAtsumu, you realize what youβre asking right? Youβre agreeing to be a father, which you just found out right now of all things. Itβs a commitment, no take backsies.β
He knew he shouldβve weighed the circumstances more, you were right after all, it was a commitment, a life-long one. Not to mention he barely found out an hour ago. Did he even know how to be a father? Infact, Atsumu hadnβt even considered kids in his life yet. He thought he had a long time before he thought he ever had to make that decision.
He thought about Haru, and how for years, he didnβt grow up with a father. His jaw hardened. Four years was too long for him to be absent. He couldnβt justβ¦ walk out. When he looked at Haru, he couldnβt possibly think of going on with living his life while knowing his son was out there.Β
βYeah, Iβm sure.β
After your talk and once the situation was settled, atleast as much as it could be, Atsumu had offered to walk you home for the night. You decided to opt out of the company party you were attending for obvious reasons, and Naomi made sure to pass the news on to your boss about a βfamily emergencyβ.
Β Now there he was, walking down the streets with his ex highschool fling, and his child. Whoever said life worked in unexpected ways, he wasnβt quite imagining this.
You both walked in silence, with Haru in your arms as he slept soundly. Atsumu wasnβt sure what to say, or if he even wanted to break the silence, so he kept quiet. Throughout the walk, he found himself stealing glances at you, and it felt as if he were meeting you all over again. You obviously werenβt the same girl he knew all those years ago. You held yourself up with a maturity he felt like he couldnβt match. Unlike him, sometimes he still felt like the clumsy kid he was in highschool. Maturity was something he always seemed to lack. His friends and brother always made sure to remind him of that whenever he behaved so.Β
He looked down at Haru, still fast asleep. He imagined it was well past his bedtime now. You stifled a yawn as you carried the small boy, the tiredness seemed to be contagious. He saw your shoulders beginning to sag, and Atsumu realized you had been carrying him for the better portion of the walk.
βHere, let me take him,β he offered. βYouβre tired.β
You looked up at him, with a raised eyebrow. βHave you held a kid before?β
He felt himself pause. Had he held a kid before? There were a few times at family reunions where he held the children of distant family members but that had all been for mere seconds before another family member scooped them up. He remembered how his mom was able to hold him and his brother at once for hours on end, how hard could it be?
βNo, but I want to try seeing as I have one now.β
You laughed and extended Haru out to Atsumu, who gently took the boy as if he were made of porcelain. Haru shifted in his sleep, but comfortably adjusted into the setterβs arms.
He heard your laugh beside him and he immediately stiffened up. Had he done something wrong?
βHeβs not a volleyball,β you chuckled, βhold him up from here.β You went to adjust Atsumuβs position and pushed up his arm so Haruβs weight could rest on it. He felt his cheeks burn in embarrassment, apparently it was harder than he thought.
βGood,β you replied, patting his arm, and he had to stop himself from blushing when he felt your fingers brushing his arm. βNow just keep him there.β
Atsumu nodded as you continued your walk. Itβs then that the thought hit himβwhen he was finally holding Haru in his armsβthat he's his.Β
His arms instinctively held Haru tighter. No, he couldnβt be doubtful now. There was too much on the line and too much time lost. Unlike the past four years, he swore that he would be there from now on, no matter what.
You both rounded the corner before you got to your apartment complex, a smaller building in the quieter part of the city. You both had lived here all this time, and he didnβt know. Had he ever walked down this street unknowingly?
βThis is us,β you stated, gesturing to the building. He felt himself trying to come up with something to say, but nothing came out. He just knew he didnβt want the night to end, there was still so much he had to know.
βWould you like to come in for a bit? I have some pictures of Haru I could show you.β You asked, and it was like you read his mind.
βI would like that.β
He followed you inside and into the elevator where you led him to your apartment. You flicked on the lights and Atsumu glanced around. He looked around and saw Haruβs toys laying about, pictures of the two of you framed around the home, he even spotted Haruβs homework still strewn out on the coffee table. You both crept inside, careful to be quiet as to not wake Haru. You led him down a hallway and opened a door to what he presumed was Haruβs room, and ushered him inside.Β
Atsumu carried the boy inside his room, and looked around. He saw his drawings framed along the walls, toys, stuffed animals, and noticed a volleyball near his toy trunk. He made a mental note to ask Haru about that later. He padded over to the bed, and set him down so he was laying. You came up beside him, and tucked the covers over him before kissing his forehead.Β
He realized this was the first time he was putting his son to sleep. Was this what having a family was like?
You both quietly exited the room, making sure to close Haruβs door so he wasnβt disturbed by you both outside.
βI can make us some tea,β you said, as he nodded. He didnβt even really like tea, he was just glad he could stay. He followed you to the kitchen, where he took a seat at the kitchen island while you put the kettle on the stove.
βIs it just ya two here?β He asked, looking around. You had some pictures framed up, as well as some photographs hung on the fridge which he could see. But from what he could tell, it was only you, Haru, and sometimes Naomi in the photos.
βYup,β you responded, pulling out two mugs from the cabinet above you. βSince Haru was born, really.β
Atsumu felt his heart in his stomach. βEven when ya were pregnant?β
Atsumu saw you still, and he hoped he didnβt open an old wound. He scolded himself for not being more sensitive, and letting his own curiosity get the better of him.Β
βWhen I told my parents, they kicked me out,β you stated bluntly, putting the tea bags in the cups. βThey sent me to live with my grandmother, who was amazingly supportive, but she died before Haru was born, so since then it was just us.β
Atsumu was silent, he wasn't sure what to say. Iβm sorry? Iβm sorry that I wasnβt there? But that wasnβt enough, it didnβt change what you had to go through. The thought of you being in that delivery room by yourself only added onto the guilt on his shoulders, and his heart sank even further when he realized you had to do everything else alone too.
βAtleast Haruβs birth was quick!β You joked, a smile beaming on your face. Despite all that, you were stillβ¦ positive? Atsumu was in disbelief, he probably couldnβt go through a fraction of what you had and still manage to put on a brave front. He always got into a mood, as Osamu called it, even at the smallest of inconveniences. You pushed a cup of tea towards him which he took graciously.
βYer amazing,β he said in awe.
βItβs just tea,β you laughed, blowing on your cup. Atsumu shook his head.
βNo,β he responded. βFor everything. For what ya had to go through, and what youβve done for Haru. And at eighteen? Osamu was still packing my lunches when I was that age.β
You laughed in response and it made his cheeks warm. He liked the sound, he thought.
βLet me get those photo albums I was talking about,β you said before walking into another room. You came back a few minutes later holding a few photo books.
Β βDo you wanna start with the first one?β You asked, holding one out.
Atsumu eagerly nodded as he took the dusty blue album, decorated with ribbons and stickers. He could tell you had decorated it yourself. It showcased a picture of you holding a newborn Haru in the hospital. The picture almost made Atsumu frown, knowing you were by yourself that day, but he ended up smiling seeing how proudly you beamed holding the baby. He opened the book and inspected inside.
There was a sonogram of each phase Haru was in during your pregnancy, and eventually a few photos of Haru being born in the hospital. He saw the tiny notes you wrote besides the pictures, and his mouth grew agape when he saw 3.68kg written next one of Haruβs pictures.
βYeah,β you chuckled, noticing his expression. βHe was a big baby, I guess since his dadβs a pro athlete and everything.β
His face grew more horrified and he almost wanted to apologize. He apologize to his mom too considering she had twins. Then another picture caught his attention.
Β βHey, whatβs this one?β He asked, pointing to another photo.
He pointed towards a picture that looked somewhat recent, he could tell since Haru seemed to be almost the same age in the picture as he was now. It was of you in a graduation cap and gown holding up Haru proudly who looked like he was cheering. It definitely wasnβt your high school graduation since Haru was in it.
βOh, thatβs when I graduated from university last year.β
βYa completed university?β Atsumu asked in astonishment.
βYeah,β you grinned. βPretty proud of myself. I was working two jobs and had to take night classes for a couple years but I ended up getting my degree finally a few months ago, then I got a great job at the firm Iβm at now.β
No, youβre not just amazing, youβre phenomenal.
The rest of the night was filled with you and Atsumu looking over Haruβs pictures, some of his favorites being Haruβs second birthday where he had cake painted across his face from where he tried to eat his birthday cake face-first, his first day of preschool (which he found out he started this year), and one of you and Haru at a festival with matching daifuku in hand. He made a mental note to take you both when he saw how brightly you both smiled. Whenever he wasnβt looking at the photos, he was paying attention to you. He was getting to know you again.
βItβs getting late,β you yawned. βI have work tomorrow, and I probably have to explain why I missed the party tonight.β
Atsumu groaned. βThat reminds me, I have to explain to my coaches tomorrow why I ran out of practice, they probably wonβt believe me though.β
You giggled, before sliding out the picture of Haruβs second birthday from the book. βMaybe you can use this as proof.β
Atsumu took the photo and smiled warmly in the picture in his hands. The picture would find a well-loved home in his wallet, but would later be replaced with a picture of the three of you adorning matching jerseys on Haruβs eighth birthday at one of Atsumuβs games.

CHAPTER TWO | NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN
ao3 |Β series masterlist |Β previous chapterΒ | next chapter
five years ago, you stupidly had a fling with inarizaki athlete, miya atsumuβ now, present dayβ he had a son he knew nothing about. you made sure it was going to stay that way, but as fate would have it, he unexpectedly stumbled back into your lives, now as volleyballβs biggest star.
wc & notes: 2.2k words β miya atsumu wrap it before you tap it challenge (level: impossible)
Miya Atsumu is like a sledgehammer going through the glass of your well-protected life. In a blink, everything was in pieces.
You stumbled onto the nearest seat you could find, still clutching Haru protectively to your chest. Unlike you, your son seemed ecstatic over the appearance of Miya Atsumu, one of the beloved players he watched often. He was excitedly babbling into your ear about the famous athlete suddenly walking in, but you couldnβt hear his chatter when you were overwhelmed with your own frantic mind.Β
How on earth could he have come in here? Was it a coincidence orβ¦ You faltered when you saw Atsumu stand beside Osamu. No, it wasnβt. You remembered where you were, Onigiri Miya. You were wrong earlier, the restaurant did share its namesake with the person in question. The name Miya Osamu now rang clearly in your head. It was the name of the faceless brother you had never met in high school. Your fling with Atsumu was so short that you failed to consider running into his family of all things.
God, why didnβt you remember that Atsumu had a brother? You felt so stupid, how did you not recognize his face, his name, anything? You were so careful the last five years, and it all came crashing down in an instant. One stupid mistake and now your worst nightmare finally came true.Β
The air was still and you could hear a pin drop in the restaurant with the nauseating silence surrounding you. Atsumu stood silently with his brother, unsure of what to do. You saw his glance towards Haru, and the look in his eyes was enough to tell you that he knew. And with Osamu standing beside him timidly, it was clear that he somehow must have figured it out and told Atsumu to come.
β(Y/N), Iβm here!β A voice suddenly screeched as the door slammed open, disrupting the silence. You looked up to see Naomi panting like a dog at the doorway of the restaurant. Wait, was she holding a taser?
βAunt Mimi!β Haru gasped.Β
βYou!β Naomi exclaimed, jabbing a finger at Osamu. βHow dare you try to hold my friend hostage!βΒ Β
Osamuβs skin turned five shades paler when he made eye contact with the taser Naomi was holding fiercely in her hand. Atsumu stood in front of his brother, sticking an arm out to protect him from your crazed friend.
βHold on!β Osamu yelped in response. βI can explain!β
βJust because youβre hot and you know how to make some riceballs doesnβt mean!--β
βNaomi, hold on!β you interjected, barely choking out the words.
Naomi paused and turned to you in confusion as to why you werenβt running away given the opportunity. Her face softened when she noticed the grief-stricken expression on your face. β(Y/N), whatβs going on?β
You opened your mouth to speak, but the words died on your tongue. You werenβt sure how to respond, because you honestly werenβt sure at all. How the hell were you going to explain that your childβs long lost biological father happened to stumble in?
The silence returned and nobody was sure how to fill it. Osamu approached you slowly, and once he realized you werenβt going to pounce on him, he kneeled beside your seat.
Β βIβm sorry for how I approached this, Iβm Miya Osamu, Atsumuβs brother. Ya probably donβt know me since we never met in high school, but I recognized you as Atsumuβs ex andβ¦β
You shakily exhaled, realizing that somebody figured it out. Somebody figured out your dirty little secret, and out of everyone it couldβve been, it was Miya Osamu.
βI saw Haru and I realized.β Osamu continued, looking at the little boy looking at him curiously. βI called Atsumu after that.β
You looked back at Atsumu, a man you haven't seen in nearly five years. You saw that he was still wearing his sports uniform and had a fresh sheen of sweat, had he run here straight from practice? You may have seen him in the media, but it was all different when he was infront of you. He looked older now, more mature, he wasnβt the same teenage boy you foolishly had a fling with all those years ago. You had only the memories of a cocky high school boy, one that was impulsive and overly confident, but it was replaced by the new one standing before you. You thought if you were to ever see him again, that he would be standing tall and proud, something inline with his confident nature, but he stood timidly before you, with his head hung low, unable to make eye contact with you.Β Β
β(Y/N),β Atsumu shakily said before a long pause followed.βCould we talk?β
You hesitated for a moment, your nerves locked like steel. His brows knitted together and his face was tense, an unreadable expression washing over his face. You followed his eyes, looking down at you and the little boy you were holding. You looked at Haru in your arms, still blissfully unaware of what was happening. You set him down besides Osamu, who you were feeling much better about now that you realized he wasnβt some sort of crazed serial killer.Β
βCan you take him away?β You whispered to him. βHe doesnβt know yet.β
Osamu nodded, taking the boy by the hand. βHaru, youβre gonna come with me for a little bit, alright?
Haru tilted his head. βWhy canβt I stay with mama?β
He was obviously confused by the situation, and it made your heart drop even lower into the pits of your shame. He had no idea. You swore that one day you were going to tell him, but you wanted to wait until he was older, and more understanding of why things had to be the way they were. But it was too late for that now. The little world you had built for you both came crashing down in an instant.
βItβs okay, baby,β you said shakily, brushing his cheek. βItβs only gonna be for a few minutes while mama deals with some grown-up things, alright?β
βNaomi, can you go with them?β You asked, looking up at your friend. βOsamu can explain.β
She looked worriedly at you, before nodding hesitantly. Osamu led Haru by the hand to the other side of the restaurant, out of earshot, with Naomi following closely behind.
When you were finally alone, Atsumu took a shaky seat across from you at the restaurant table. You didnβt have the nerve to look up at him, and neither did he. You fought back the burn in your eyes, you never thought you would have to be here, facing him. When you ran away all those years ago, you were also running away from this very moment, the moment where you had to face him. Both of you sat in silence before he finally decided to break it.
βHeβs mine, isnβt he?β
You swallowed stiffly, the repulsive taste of shame on your tongue. βHe is.β
Atsumu looked up at you with pained eyes. You didnβt realize how different he looked now. Even when you saw him on TV, it didnβt give you as detailed of an image as when he sat in front of you. His features were the same, but he seemed to have grown into them. He held himself more seriously, more like an adult unlike the boy you knew in the past. βWhy didnβt you tell me?β
βAtsumu--β you barely stammered. βWe were two highschoolers who barely knew each other, we werenβt even dating--β God, how long had you even known Atsumu at that point? A few weeks? A month, at most.
βI would have still wanted to know still,β he replied, the hurt evident in his voice. It made your hands clench, and the guilt burned in your chest like your heart was trying to collapse in on itself.
A beat of silence passed. You stared down at your hands in your lap.Β
βI was scared.βΒ
You could still feel the weight of the dingy plastic pregnancy test in your hands. Two lines. Positive. He didnβt reply.
βEveryone knew you had such a bright future ahead of you,β you continued in a murmur. βYou were gonna go pro and be the great athlete everyone knew youβd be. You didnβt need a kid holding you back. It was easier for you not to know, and for me to leave.β
You had carried the shame for years. It piled on your heart every day Haru grew and the more he started to look like his father. Of course you wanted to tell him, you wanted your son to have a father, but it just wasnβt that simple. Some days, you were tired of keeping the secret and you just wanted to burst back into Atsumuβs life to tell him he had a baby boy.Β
There were several times where you almost broke. The day you went into labor, the nurse had asked if you planned to invite anyone into the delivery room. You almost said yes. When Haru took his first steps, you almost called Atsumu, whose number you still had saved on your phone. Even something as mundane as a school report card you considered sending to him. But you always stopped yourself. How were you supposed to tell Japanβs rising superstar athlete that he had a family?
You felt the tears pricking your eyes. You felt as if you were back in that dingy convenience store bathroom, still clad in your school uniform, as you realized that you were going to be responsible for a child. You shakily inhaled to stop yourself knowing you had to keep yourself together, for Haruβs sake. Youβre not that scared teenage girl anymore.Β
βHe looks alot like you,β Atsumu commented, making you stop swimming laps in your thoughts. You looked back up to see him looking at Haru from afar, who was being distracted by Osamu and Naomi with a game of rock paper scissors. Haru grinned a toothy smile, familiar to the man across the table. He had a glisten in his eyes, the same eyes Haru shared.
βI always thought he looked more like you,β you chuckled, wiping your eyes with your sleeve. Atsumu smiled softly. You saw the dimple indent he had on his left cheek, that didnβt match on the right. You forgot he had that. You felt a twinge of a smile.
You stopped yourself. You had forgotten Miya Atsumu, and it should stay that way. You dropped your smile and looked back at Atsumu.
βI wonβt say a word about me or Haru, not to the press, anyone at all,β you stated as firmly as you could, but it didnβt stop the inevitable tremble in your voice. βI can even sign an NDA if you want me to, you can go back to living your life and I can disappear again, itβll be easier that way.β
Atsumu looked back at you, and it was clear he was shocked by what you had said. You were taken aback as to why he seemed surprised, surely thatβs what he wanted, right?
βWhat are ya talking about?β He stammered hurriedly, as if you were about to run again. βDisappear? I canβt just let ya leave--β
βAtsumu,β you replied, the name feeling foreign on your lips. βYou donβt have to deal with this, you were never meant to find out.β
βBut I did. And Iβm glad I did.βΒ
Now it was your turn to be shocked. Atsumu took your hands into his from across the table, and you could feel the warmth reverberating off his calloused fingers. Another thing you forgot was how it felt when he touched you. βListen, I know ya didnβt want me to know, and this certainly isnβt the way I imagined finding out I was a father,β he started nervously. βBut I canβt just go back to living my life knowing ya and my son are out there. I wasnβt there when it mattered and I donβt wanna be some deadbeat and pretend ya donβt exist.βΒ
Thereβs a certain bitterness in the last sentence you barely catch. Atsumu looked back at you and you couldnβt ignore the way his eyes burned into yours. You almost forgot how intense they could look.
βIs it too late for me to be a part of his life?β
You sat back, stunned as the words echoed in your ears. You almost thought you didnβt hear him correctly, that you were reliving the daydreams your teenage self dreamt up. But when Atsumu continued to look at you for an answer, you realized what you were hearing was real.Β
βA-Atsumu, you realize what youβre asking right?β You stuttered. βYouβre agreeing to be a father, which you just found out right now of all things. Itβs a commitment, no take backsies.β
βNo take backsies?β He snorted. Your cheeks flushed when you realized heβs chuckling at you.
βI hang out with kids a lot, if you couldnβt tell.β You smiled meekly as his hands tightened around yours.
Atsumu looked back at Haru, celebrating that he won another round of rock paper scissors against Osamu while Naomi cheered him on. Osamu pretended to act defeated which only inflated Haruβs little ego, it reminded you of when Atsumu won a point at volleyball games in high school.Β
He smiled again, βyeah, Iβm sure.β

TRAINING WHEELS
CHAPTER ONE | DEJA VU
ao3 | series masterlist | previous chapter | next chapter
five years ago, you stupidly had a fling with inarizaki athlete, miya atsumuβ now, present dayβ he had a son he knew nothing about. you made sure it was going to stay that way, but as fate would have it, he unexpectedly stumbled back into your lives, now as volleyballβs biggest star.
wc & notes: 3.1k β guest star osamu? π«’
FIVE YEARS AGO β HYOGO PREFECTURE
βFuck, fuck, fuck!β You muttered as you impatiently sat on the toilet of the convenience store bathroom. You chewed on your nails as your leg shook anxiously enough to practically make your whole body vibrate. This had to have been the longest three minutes of your life, even longer when you hid with Atsumu from that damn first-year that intruded into the bathroom. God, you should have taken that as a sign to stop your hormone-frenzied self.
If you could go back in time, you never wouldβve hooked up with Miya Atsumu in that stupid bathroom stall a month ago. In fact, you wouldβve sworn a life of celibacy from that point on if you knew that you would end up here. No sex before marriage, and all that. But it was too late for regret, especially when your period was well over a week late. You silently prayed this was all just some twisted joke.
Your phone alarm went off, indicating the three minutes were up and it promptly ended your little prayer. Your heart caught in your throat at the realization that you were going to have to look at the pregnancy test resting on your lap like a ten-ton weight. There was no way it was going to be positive, you argued with yourself. You were on the pill, you were pretty responsible minus for that impulsive moment with Atsumu (if you could call it that), and you were too young to be having a baby. It was impossible, right?
You shakily inhaled. It was going to be false. It was going to be false and all of this would be something you could laugh at later down the road. All this would just be a silly mistake and you would learn your lesson for it. You repeated the mantra to yourself as you shakily held up the pink stick in your hand. False. False.
Two lines. Positive.
The small dingy bathroom was quickly filled with the sounds of your sobs.
PRESENT DAY β OSAKA, JAPAN
Miya Osamu had seen his fair share of customers. From the normal regulars, the die-hard MSBY fangirls trying to catch a glimpse of Atsumu whenever he stopped in from lunch, and to the old woman who once tried to whack him with her purse when her free onigiri coupon expired. It was safe to say he was well acquainted with most of the patrons who came inside his humble restaurant. (Humble being one of the most popular restaurants in Osaka, that is.)
Osamu was working a normal shift at the front, a Tuesday afternoon with not much to worry about besides the to-go orders and the day to day business. Some days were like this, plain and simple. He was glad it didnβt seem too busy that day, maybe he could close early since the dinner rush had ended earlier than he thought. Deciding to have a short day was one of the perks of being the owner, afterall. He was organizing the display case of ready-made onigiri when the front door opened with a bell ring.
βHello, welcome to Onigiri Miya,β he greeted. The woman who entered gave him a polite nod and wave before attending to the child beside her. She brought him up to the display case where she read off a few flavors for the young boy to pick from. Osamu furrowed his eyebrows, he recognized you.Β
He hadnβt seen you before though, he thought. You were wearing a business-like outfit, indicating you probably were at work beforehand and probably just coming in for some dinner before heading home. He usually remembered most faces who came in here, especially his office-working customers since they frequented the restaurant during their lunches, or at the end of shift dinners. But he couldnβt quite recall you. It was odd though, he felt like he knew you from somewhere. Granted, he would have remembered knowing somebody with a kid, all of his friends were young and single mostly. Maybe you were someone from highschool?Β
The little boy excitedly pointed out the tuna mayo flavor sitting in the display case, and you walked up to the cash register where Osamu stood. Your son held your leg shyly as he hid behind you.
βHello,β you greeted with a smile. βIβm here to pick up a catering order for the Osaka Publishing Firm.βΒ Β
Oh, so you were picking up the food for the party he was catering.Β
I donβt think I know anybody from Osaka Publishing though, Osamu thought to himself before shrugging it off. You probably just had a familiar face.
βAnd also could I get a tuna mayo onigiri with that?β You added, patting the head of your son still clinging onto your leg. βHaru here isnβt quite full from his lunch.βΒ
Osamu laughed as he looked down at the boy, still meekly hiding behind his mother. He was barely at her waist, and peeked up at him with curious brown eyes. Osamu remembered doing the same thing when he was at that age and felt a kindredness for him. The world is so big when youβre that small. βBig appetite, huh?β
βI wanna be a big strong athlete!β He announced, poking his head out from behind his mother. The way the boy gave him a toothy smile gave him an odd sense of dΓ©jΓ vu, but he had definitely never seen the kid before.Β
βLet me go get the catering order for ya in the back,β Osamu said, and the woman nodded.
Osamu went through the doors behind the counter into the kitchen. He found the boxes of onigiri wrapped up neatly, ready to go for you out front. As he was double checking the order, he still felt himself rifling through his mind. Where had he seen you before? It was odd, but he shook off the nagging thoughts. You were probably just a customer from the past he forgot about. Though, it started to bother him that he couldnβt recall.
βAlright,β Osamu said, bringing out the order to the front counter. βI have five catering boxes, and one tuna mayo onigiri for mister Haru here.β The little boy beamed up at him, and Osamu chuckled. He was one cute kid, heβll give him that.
βDo you use fatty tuna in the riceballs?β Haru asked, standing on his tippy toes so he could reach the counter and look at Osamu. βItβs my favorite!β
βYa know, thatβs actually my brotherβs favorite food,β Osamu chuckled as he finished wrapping up the boxes.
The kid almost reminded him of Atsumu, he had the same energeticness and toothy smile. And not to mention Haru liked fatty tuna of all things. Funny, now that Osamu thinks of it, Haru kind of looked like his brother when he was that age. He had the same big bright eyes, ruffled dark hair that couldnβt quite be tamedβ¦Β
Now that he thought about it, Haru looked like Atsumu.Β
A lotβ¦ Actually.Β
He looked back at you, and you were too busy scribbling down a check in your checkbook. He looked long and hard, and he was right earlier, you did go to high school with him. He can vaguely recall a fuzzy image of your face. You werenβt in the same class, but you definitely were in the same grade. But if he couldn't remember who you were, why did he recognize you then? And why was it bothering the hell out of him that he couldnβt? He felt his brain short circuiting as he scanned your face for answers.Β
You looked back at him with a smile, sticking the check out for him. He looked at your smile and then it clicked.Β
FIVE YEARS AGO β HYOGO PREFECTURE, THE MIYA RESIDENCE
βShe ghosted me!β Atsumu cried, flopping onto Osamuβs bed in their shared bedroom. Osamu felt a vein pop in his forehead, not only was his annoying brother interrupting his quiet time, he also intruded onto his beloved bed. When you shared a room, it was practically like crossing into illegal territory.
βI thought I could ask her out but she just ups and moves away! She even changed her number.β Atsumu whined, kicking his feet like a bratty child. Osamu was practically living with one anyway seeing as how the eighteen year old acted. He grimaced at the way Atsumu was roughing up the bedsheets he had just washed.
βShe probably realized ya ainβt shit,β Osamu scoffed, attempting to shove him off the bed.
Osamu didnβt know much about his brotherβs mystery girl, besides the fact she was Atsumuβs recent (of many) infatuations. He found it odd that she had abruptly moved without a word, especially since he thought she and Atsumu were hitting it off pretty well. (Maybe a little too well, according to a particular bathroom rumor he heard from a first year.) Maybe her parents had to move for work or something of the sort, but hey, it was none of his business nor his problem. He looked over to see Atsumu still lamenting beside him as he scrolled through his phone.
βWhoβs this girl anyway?β Osamu asked, realizing he had never actually met you in-person since you were in Atsumuβs class and not his. He thanked his lucky stars he ended up being in a separate class from Osamu in their third year.
Atsumu shoved his phone in Osamuβs face with her Instagram profile on the screen.Β
A girl with a bright smile plastered on the screen.
PRESENT DAY
He remembered now. He looked back at you, and realized you were the face on Atsumuβs phone. That girl who hooked up with his brother and disappeared five years ago was you. Then he remembered the little boy standing beside you, the one who looked eerily like his twin brother. He looked back down at Haru, who was eyeing the onigiri on the counter hungrily.Β
There was no wayβ¦
βHey kid, how old are ya?β
βFour!β He grinned. Osamu swore it was Atsumuβs grin staring right back at him.Β
Osamuβs brain was going into overdrive as he went over the details. Five years ago, some girlβwho he was damn near positive was youβghosted his brother after hooking up with him. She moved away without a word and Atsumu never heard from her again. Now five years later, you showed up in his restaurant with a four year old who looked almost exactly like his brother.
What if the reason you moved away suddenly was becauseβ¦
Quite frankly, Osamu felt like he was shitting bricks.
His brain was doing somersaults and he felt like the worldβs gravity swung upside-down. With the facts lined up, and not to mention the math, his theory was seemingly impossible to deny. If you were the girl he thought you were, that would mean it was more than likely this kid was Atsumuβs.Β
βAlright, hereβs the money for the order,β you said, hand still stretched out. βI hope a company check will do.β
No, no, you canβt leave! He couldnβt lose you, who knew if youβd ever show up again. He needed a way to confirm your identity, and quickly.Β
βActually,β Osamu replied, scrambling in his head for some answer. βWe donβt take checks, only cash and card.β
βI guess I have some money on meββ No, cash wouldnβt tell him your name!
βWould you look at that! The cash register isnβt opening!β Osamu chuckled nervously, repeatedly punching a random button on the register that definitely wasnβt the open button.Β
Youβre obviously growing more suspicious as you raised an eyebrow, Osamu was clearly acting strange, even he knew it. Under normal circumstances, he wouldnβt be acting like a damn moron (that was more Atsumu), but obviously nothing about this was normal.Β
βOh, okay then,β you frowned, digging through your purse and handing him a card. Perfect! He thought. He took it graciously, and quickly looked at the name on it. Damnit, itβs a company card. He was running out of time before you walked out those doors.
βI think that our card machine on the machine is broken too actually,β Osamu stammered, quickly making up another lie. βIβm gonna have to manually input it in the back, but to do that, Iβm gonna need a name to put it under.β
βOsaka Publishing should work,β you replied, growing noticeably weirded out.Β
βI need an actual name,β he stiffly grinned. βYa know, to put it in the books incase we need a contact to give you a refund.β
You looked at him oddly, βItβs (L/N) (F/N).β There we go!
βWait here!β He responded almost too quickly. He didnβt give you a moment to think before he was rushing into the kitchen again. Once he was in the clear, he dug his phone out of his pocket, and quickly dialed his brother. You better pick up, you no-good piece of shit! He thought.
The phone rang agonizingly long before he was greeted with the sounds of volleyballs bouncing and sneakers squeaking on gym floors when Atsumu picked up. He sighed deeply and his shoulders collapsed in relief.Β
βYa better have a good reason to be bothering me at practice βSamu!--β
βWhatβs the name of the girl who ghosted ya in high school?!β Osamu barked abruptly.
βWhat theββ Atsumu responded, taken aback. βWhyββ
βAtsumu, tell me now!βΒ
Atsumu paused on the other side.
βIt was (L/N) (F/N), why?β
Osamuβs stomach dropped to his shoes. You were the same girl. There was no doubt about it now. The kid outside had to be his nephew, and Atsumuβs son.
βAtsumu, ya need to come to the restaurant right now,β Osamu instructed hastily. β(Y/N) is hereββ Atsumuβs laugh interrupted him.Β
βI know I was pretty torn up about it back then, but I donβt see why I need toββ
βListen to me, ya moron!β Osamu exclaimed through clenched teeth. βDonβt you think it was weird she ghosted ya out of nowhere five years ago after hooking up with ya? Well, sheβs here right now with a four year old, and I donβt think the fact he looks like you is a coincidence.β
Atsumu grew silent. As much as Osamu reprimanded his brother for his lack of brains, he knew he wasnβt a big enough idiot not to hear what he was implying.Β
βIβll be there as soon as I can.β
β
You wiped Haruβs messy face with a handkerchief as he finished his onigiri. You sighed as you looked at your wristwatch, at this rate you were going to be late to the company party. Where was the cashier? Not only did he start acting bizarrely out of nowhere, he disappeared without a trace.
Your phone started buzzing in your pocket, and you saw Naomiβs caller ID. You picked up with a groan.
βHey, did you pick up the food yet?β
βNaomi, this is the last time Iβm ever doing a favor for you,β you grumbled. βThis is taking way longer than you said it would.β
βThatβs odd,β Naomi hummed in confusion. βThey called me earlier to tell me my order was ready to be picked up, there shouldnβt be any holdup.β
βWell,β you responded as you scooped Haru into your arms, who was growing sleepy with his full stomach. βThe cashier is kind of a weirdo.βΒ
You recalled the prior minutes to Naomi, noting that the βopen buttonβ he was pushing on the cash register was definitely the β7β button. You would have left at that point if not for the fact he still had your company card with him, not to mention the catering for the party.
βHe never acts weird whenever I go there for lunch, I actually think Osamuβs hot!β So that was his name.βMaybe you donβt notice because you got a nutty sense in men,β you snickered. You recalled the past few boyfriends Naomi had, who were less than conventional.
βHey!β Naomi responded defensively. βBut let me tell you, you should see his brother!βΒ
You rolled your eyes in response, even if Naomi couldnβt see it. You remembered he had mentioned his brother earlier, who shared a love of fatty tuna like your son. Though, if he was anything like the odd brother you were with, you probably didnβt wanna meet him.
βOh no,β you muttered, looking at the time. It was nearly six oβclock. βIβm gonna be late for the sitter at this rate.β
βYβknow what,β Naomi said, βIβm ready now, just get Haru to the babysitter and Iβll get the food since you need to run, I want an excuse to look at that hunk anyway.β You laughed in response.
βYou sure? I can wait a little longer.β You replied, not wanting your friend to be chewed out by your boss for being late, however, you were met with Naomi insisting.
βAlright, then.β You shrugged, you certainly werenβt going to argue since the babysitter charged a late fee. You looked back down at your son, dozing off in your arms. βHaru, baby, weβre gonna go to the babysitter now.β
Your son hummed in your arms, already drifting off into sleep.Β
βUh, sir!β you called out loud enough for the man to hear you in the back kitchen. βI actually have to get going now so somebody else is going to come pick up the food.β
Before you could even get your bearings to get ready and leave, he frantically came bursting out from the kitchen. βHold on, you canβt leave!β
You were taken aback and dropped your phone in shock at his sudden appearance. Oh hell no, this guy really was crazy! You clutched your son closer, who was still fast asleep. You were now in protective mama bear mode now, and you were ready to throw down with the now assumably crazy cashier in front of you. You glanced around the restaurant for anyone else to help, but unluckily enough for you, you were alone. However, you looked down at your fallen phone to notice Naomi was still on the line.
Β βI donβt know what your deal is but if you keep this up Iβm calling the cops!β You shouted. βIβm leaving!β
βWait, hear me out!--β As he tried to approach you. Absolutely not!
βNaomi, help!β You screeched, backing away, and you could hear the girl on the other line shouting back. You could hear her door slam on the other side, presumably to go get you.
You felt Haru start to fuss in your arms. βMama, whatβs going on?β
You spun around and made a beeline for the door, despite the protests of the insane man behind you. You were about to rush out the door before you slammed into somebody. It wasnβt Naomi, there was no way she could have made it this quickly, and the chest of whoever it was, was definitely a larger man. You looked up, praying it could be someone who could help you, but what you were greeted with was much worse.
β(Y/N)?β Miya Atsumu stammered.
Well fuck, you were definitely gonna be late now.
notes: if ur wondering, y/n didnβt recognize osamu bc they never met in high school!! i tried to make osamu figuring out as realistic as possible but at the end of the day this is still fiction π

PRE-GAME GOOD LUCK KISS. part 1
β ASAHI AZUMANE, DAICHI SAWAMURA, KIYOKO SHIMIZU, & KOSHI SUGAWARA X GENDER NEUTRAL READER
β word count: 1012
β summary: giving the third years from karasuno a good luck kiss before a game!
β warnings: kissing, pet names such as darling (daichi), baby (sugawara) babe, baby, sweetpea (asahi), reader calls kiyoko love
β A/N: another repost from my other account but i edited these a little, broke the headcannons into smaller chunks, and added more characters! also this doesnβt canonically fit with the show since they never have just games, but itβs more in line with USA volleyball games i went to in high school
β affiliations: @tokyometronetwork & @http-404-error-unknownβΒ
SAWAMURA DAICHI
the captain of the volleyball team may not admit it, but he loves when you greet him before a game. heβs a sucker for your kisses and praise. heβs also not afraid to show you off in front of the team!
βhey darling!β the captain says, smiling and waving at you.
you blush at the nickname, running over to him across the gym and giving him a hug. youβre basically like a sibling to the rest of the boys so itβs not surprising for you to be on the same side of the gym as them.
you stand on your tiptoes to wrap your arms around daichiβs neck, smiling up at the third year. he leans down and presses a deep kiss to your lips, his hands finding your waist and pulling you close to him.
βgrossβ¦β tsuki mutters at the two of you, causing you to pull away and flip him off.
βyouβre just jealous four eyesβ¦β you smirk and give daichi another quick peck on the lips.
βno matter what happens out there, you do your best. iβm so proud of you no matter what babyβ¦β you whisper to him.
a slight blush coats his cheeks as he nods. βthank you darling, and thank you for the good luck kiss.β
warm-ups are starting now, so you depart to your side of the gym and into the stands, where you watch your daichi do his best.
SUGAWARA KOSHI
koshi likes to keep you from the other guys. itβs not that he wants to keep you a secret, he just gets jealous easily! he canβt help it. he just loves you so much!
the team is taking a quick water break during warm-ups, allowing suga to see you for at least a short amount of time. you greet him down on the floor, where he takes your hand and leads you into the hallway of the gym. you look up at him, a confused expression etched on your face. you open your mouth to speak, when the boy pulls you in for a kiss.
youβre shocked for a minute, but obviously return the kiss, placing your hands on his chest as his rest on your hips.
he pulls away for a moment and smiles, letting out a breathy laugh. βsorry baby, needed to kiss you. i didnβt want to do it in the gym where everyone could see.β
you blush and laugh. βawh, so protective of me koshi?β
itβs his turn to blush as he scratches the back on his neck. βi-iβ¦ i just wanted a good luck kiss!β
he pouts at you and you laugh again. βokay baby, relax!β
you press a kiss to his lips again, instantly allowing his pout to fade. βthereβ¦ happy pretty boy?β
he nods and takes your hand, intertwining your fingers as you walk back into the gym. βgood luck babyβ¦β
you squeeze his hand and he squeezes yours back, giving you a kiss on the cheek before returning to his side of the gym.
AZUMANE ASAHI
though heβs very shy, asahi loves a good luck kiss from his s/o. it relieves some of, if not all his anxiety he has about the game in general. seeing you in the crowd really helps him out too!
βbabe!β you yell out, waving to him.
his anxiety seems to melt the second his eyes lay on you. he waves back at you, about to turn his attention to his team, when you yell out his name again. he excuses himself and runs over to you.
βeverything okay sweetpea?β his brows furrow and you let out a giggle, nodding at him.
βyes baby. everything is perfect. i just want to give you this!β you stand up on your lip toes, barely reaching his chin as you try to give him a kiss of good luck.
asahi realizes what youβre doing and blushes, leaning down so your lips meet his. this kiss is quick and innocent, but still leaves the giant and intimidating man flustered.
βg-give me a kiss?β he asks.
you nod, smiling at him.
βthank you sweetpea, iβll see you after the game okay?β he asks again.
you nod. βiβll see you then, good luck babe!β
the rest of the warm-ups and game, he thought of your lips on his, and he was at ease.
SHIMIZU KIYOKO
even though kiyoko no longer plays sports and is just a team manager, she still appreciates a good luck kiss from you before a game begins.
you walk into the hallway outside of the gym and see kiyoko filling up water bottles at the water fountain. she looks so focused and concentrated you almost do not want to approach her, but she sees you before you can turn back around.
βhi y/n!β she smiles and waves you over to her.
βhey love. how are you?β you ask once youβve made your way to her.
she lets out a sigh and looks up at you.Β βiβm a little bit worried for the team tonight. this will be a tough game and i just hope that i can do my best to encourage them and help them stay positive.β
you put your hands on kiyokoβs shoulders and turn her towards you. her eyes widen and cheeks flush. you meet her grey eyes and stare into them.Β
βkiyo... youβre one of the strongest and most kind people i know. you do so well as manager. those guys feel so reassured with you by their side to cheer them on. do not doubt yourself.β you end your sentence with a kiss to her lips.
you can feel her shoulders relax under your grip as she kisses you back.Β after a minute or so, you pull away and smile at her.Β
βthatβs my girl... you feel much more relaxed now...β you whisper.
she pushes her glasses up her nose and nods.Β βyeah... thank you for the good luck kiss...β
you nod.Β βiβll be in the gym!β
you run off with a smile on your face and take a seat in the bleachers.Β

Pov: you angrily tell them to go fuck themself
Luffy- βNO!!β Wraps his arms around you and tackles you to the ground forcing you to stay tied like that until youβre calm again.
Zoro- Scoffs. βI donβt think I can do that.β Grabs you and cages you in his embrace while you scream curses at him but he keeps holding you until you quiet down.
Sanji- βWha-β his face turns red at your words. Runs after you and begs you to explain why youβre so angry (heβs scared he was the reason without realizing it.)
Law- βThatβs not something I can possibly do.β Narrows his eyes with furrowed brows as he stares down at your scowl. Heβll leave you alone until coming to the conclusion that someone as stubborn as you will not apologize for your outburst.
Kidd- βOkay, maybe I will.β Heβs just as childish and stubborn as you. You can ignore each other for thirty thousand years after that outburst but nothing will come between your love for each other.

When Mitsuki walks in the room for the fourth time since her son took on the arduous task of making homemade chocolates, the latter finally regrets the phone call he made earlier this week.Β
βJust make sure you leave my kitchen like you found it,β she says, leaning ever so slightly on the kitchen island. Katsuki considers a sharp remark, but is too nervous counting down minutes and seconds in his head before turning the chocolate on the stove. She also has a good reason to be concerned - the kitchen is now as cluttered as the recesses of her perfectionist sonβs mind, mixing bowls of various sizes and shapes strewn all over the place, along with strawberries, smears of white, milk and dark chocolate and wooden and plastic spoons, measuring and otherwise.Β
βGot it,β he replies, gruffly. She crosses her arms and readjusts her position as she watches her son work. His apron is coming loose and he has a worried expression on his face as he moves from surface to stove to other surface. She would fix it for him but that would only serve to prickle him further.
βI thought it was odd you asked to borrow the kitchen, but now seeing all this-β she waves vaguely at the scene with one hand -Β βI think I get it.β
Bakugou narrows his eyes at her but gets back to work. Mitsuki is frankly quite fascinated at how diligent he is at the task - while sheβs always known him to be careful, for once he seemsβ¦ stressed. Itβs in the wrinkle in his nose as he turns melted chocolate over and fiddles with instructions and powdered sugar, and itβs in the way that he looks carefully at assorted molds and prepares his dipping sticks in advanceβ¦ she wonders if you are the first to make him feel this wayβ¦ this anxious to impress.
She walks over and with the tiniest of spoons scoops a bit of chocolate out of the pot which earns her the rise sheβs been trying to poke out of him for the past hour.
βI need every bit of that, what are you-β
Mitsuki smacks her lips together then tosses the tasting spoon in the sink. Itβs delicious, as she expects, and she knows youβll love it but it still needs something.
βTry a little bit of vanilla,β she offers.Β βI have some in the pantryβ¦ premium stuff, if youβre interested.β
Bakugou blinks, then deflates back to normal. And yet somehow, he seems to light up as he asks:
βWhere?β
Mitsuki shakes her head.
βYou donβt visit enough,β she says instead, bopping him gently on the head, but as she rolls her eyes and turns, she smiles.Β βLet me go grab it.β
As she runs to the pantry, she thinks about how much she canβt wait till he brings you home.

account is now only accessible on the dashboard tab and u cannot save your place scrolling on your own blog while scrolling the dashboard, a change that has made this app nigh unusable for me. iβm posting here because this blog has thousands of followers, please βget publicly furious about this! send emails complaining to staff! write bad app store reviews! this change is literally so evil and signals worse things to come, i really cherish the space and community this site provides and iβd hate to see it become half buggy and unnavigable tiktok/instagram knockoff #52 and half ugly merch store. thank u for reading.

Set in the same theme as this
A little side note: Touya, from my research, means 'arrow of light' so I wanted his son's name to have a similar theme so Tadaaki means 'bright light'.
Daddy!Dabi, sorry Touya, who keeps having random toys delivered to your house. You're sure the driver knows your name by now since you're getting a parcel every day and to make it worse the little demon child seems more interest in the box and wrapping paper than the actual gift inside the damn thing.
"Tadaaki, I swear to God."
You sat on the floor next to him as he tried to ingest yet another piece of paper from the floor, wrestling the small sodden pieces from his hand and replaced it with his dummy even as he screwed up his face in frustration.
"Just let him eat it."
Shaking your head in exasperation, you turned to the window and glared at Touya. The grin on his face as he crouched on the window ledge made you even more frustrated so you threw some paper at his stupid head.
"Very helpful, thank you."
A snort as he jumped down, the thud as his boots hit the floor before he quickly removed them and replaced them with the slippers you chose for him. They were huge Smurf feet, something you would tease him with when you were together, and when you saw them in the local shop you just had to get them.
A loud squeal as Tadaaki stood up and toddled over to his dad, Touya was still a little hesitant as the little hands held on his larger ones. You could see the gloves he was wearing, something you noticed after you met in the park and assumed it was to protect Tadaaki from the staples. A louder squeal this time as Touya hefted him up in the air, the dummy landing on the floor as your son flew up in the air.
"You know, he just ate. If he-"
"Oh shit!"
"-pukes it'll be your own fault."
You couldn't help but laugh out loud this time, your son looking awfully chuffed with himself as his dad looked like he was about to throw up himself. Holding Tadaaki at arms length, his face turned away as he thrust him out to you and pulled the jacket and t-shirt he was wearing off and wiping himself down with some baby wipes while mock glaring at you.
"You can stop laughing, brat. I learnt my lesson."

Having Dabi's kid, him leaving without you being able to tell him that you're carrying his child until one day he comes back, watching you from the sidelines while you're both at the park. Your son is a spitting image of his dad, bright blue eyes and red hair with streaks of yours interspersed. He's loud and boisterous, a bit clumsy and always tripping over his feet. He babbles and laughs so hard especially when you tickle him, arms and legs flapping when you push him on the swing.
And Dabi actually feels his heart stop.
His own childhood running through his mind, the training with his dad, the trauma and abuse he endured. The way he was ignored, his life deemed useless when a newer, updated version came about with the right quirk his dad desired. He doesn't even realise he's crying until he feels the blood running down his cheeks, small drops on the floor by her booted legs.
"You know, he's just like you."
And then you're there.
The same girl he was always too bad for, not worthy or enough for. You were the light to the darkest part of his soul, the only thing that kept him sane some days and probably the only person who loved him unconditionally. There was nothing about you he didn't love... and then the words sink in.
"W-what?"
A huff of laughter as you bounce the baby on your hip, Dabi can't help but stare as his own blue eyes stare back at him. And then he has to stumble forward as the bundle reaches for him, jumping out of your hands. If it wasn't for his quick reflexes his son, oh my god his son, would have face planted onto the ground.
And then there's a little hand on his face, the scarred bits he had to learn to live with. A light slap as the small palm connects and Dabi can't help but smile as the baby starts gurgling and smacking his lips together.

LESSON LEARNEDΒ | dabi.
βΎ in which he takes care of you
wordcount: 1k+ | genre: FLUFFFF, comfort | pairing: dabi x fem!reader | rating: pg-15 | tw: blood aka period | others: soft!dabi, pissy!reader, pet names: sweetheart, good girl, sobbing bc dabi [redacted].
Itβs too quiet.
Dabiβs first instinct is to ready his flames if something goes wrong. He silently checks for any signs of intrusion or a fight, but fortunately, everything in your place is still intact.
But the silence that envelopes the whole apartment is unsettling. Usually, youβd blast some cafΓ© jazz music with the smell of coffee lingering in the air. But right now, there are no music and coffee scent. No sign of movements at all.

To anyone else, a couple sitting together at breakfast not speaking to each other may seem odd, but for you and Kiyoomi, though, itβs nothing out of the ordinary.
βSo, youβre away for a game this Friday, right?β
His response comes in the way of a slight nod, eyes narrowed in focus on the plate of food in front of him.
βWhen will you be home? Monday?β
He nods again, and your eyebrows crease in confusion. You open your mouth to question why heβs suddenly acting so strange, but before you can, Kiyoomiβs tilting his head in the direction of the table to your left. And then you hear it β the gossip.
βI just canβt believe she would do that! I thought she was my friend, ya know?β
Your mouth snaps shut in an instant, anxious to hear what unfolds next.
βWell,β the girl on the other side starts, clearly apprehensive,Β βshe has liked him since high school. I thought you knew that.β
Silverware clatters down to the table. Whatever answer the first girl was expecting, it certainly wasnβt that. You and Kiyoomi share a pointed look, your mouths full of food.
βHeβs my ex-fiancΓ©. Are you serious right now?β
You have to control your face, taking a sip from your coffee mug to hide your surprise. Kiyoomiβs no better β eyes all but bulging at the new bit of information.
βI think youβre being a little unfair.β
You and Kiyoomi lock eyes in an instant, sharing looks that scream βoh shit.β
βUnfair?β The first girl is incredulous, and you can tell sheβs biting back the volume in her voice. You have to strain to hear what she says next.Β βThey started hooking up the second him and I broke up.β
Kiyoomi hides another expression behind his fist, cheeks stuffed with pancakes. His eyes widen, brows raising as he looks at you over his hand. Youβre familiar enough with what you lovingly call Kiyoomi-speak to know heβs saying,Β βCan you believe this shit?β
Your expression mirrors his own.
You spend the rest of your meal digesting the conversation coming from the table beside you, and as you walk back to your apartment, Kiyoomiβs hand in yours, you unpack it together.
βHer ex seems like a dick.β
βHe does! The friend is no better either.β
βMm,β Kiyoomiβs brow furrows.Β βThat friend she was eating with kind of sucks, too. It seemed like she was pulling out all of these excuses for the other girl.β
βThatβs what I was gonna say! She probably knew all along.β
βMm, probably.β
You continue to chat the whole way home, and as silly as it sounds, the idle conversation has warmth thrumming beneath your skin. Itβs nice, you think as Kiyoomi delves into the theory that the poor girl was probably cheated on. To have someone who understands you, someone you can always rely on to people watch and gossip with you.

Everybody Knows.. (Law x Reader)
summary: the straw hats find out about you and lawβs relationship. no smut, just fluff and law being irritated and shy <3
wc: 760
β
You settled into your seat beside him and fought against the urge to sneak a kiss. You had to remind yourself of his wishes to keep it all secret. In a world where enemies used loved ones as leverage, there was no room to flaunt a relationshipβespecially with a wanted pirate. Although it was getting hard, and today had been a good dayβ¦ all you wanted to do was kiss and love on your man.
After helping the straw hats on a long missionβyou and Law joined them at a restaurant for celebration.
His eyes immediately latched onto you as soon as you appeared by his side. Everyone was largely invested in their own conversations at the table to notice you and Law. He gave your thigh a loving touch beneath the table and softened his gaze, seizing the moment of divided attention.
βHey..β he whispered.
βHm?β
βYou look beautiful.β His deep voice blended with the chatter, on the cusp of inaudibility. You made sure to read his lips as well and smiled when you understood. You gave him a quick peck to the corner of his mouth in replyβa usual practice when you two were aloneβ¦ It was such an ingrained habit that youβd let it slip on accident tonight.
The table paused, breaths hitched as if the straw hats were one collective brain. Law forced his eyes shut and let out a βfuckβ¦β between gritted teeth because he knew the crew was about to erupt in jeers, marking their individuality.
βEhhh!?β Nami spat, leaning forward in her seat.
βSince when!?β Ussop added from her side.
βGet a room,β Zoro scoffed, downing sake.
Robin smiled casually. βI knew it,β her laid back reaction was similar to Luffy. Both of them just found it all amusing.
βTra-guyβs married,β Luffy laughed, milking the situation.
Chopper darted his gaze between Luffy and Law in wide eyed wonder, mouth agape. βTra-guy andββ he looked at you βyouβre married?!β
Sanji put his head in his hand. βIβve been lusting after a married womanβ¦β
βWeβre not marriedβ¦ you idiots,β Law grimaced.
βTheyβre in love,β Robin teased which was the catalyst to a chorus of hoots and hollers. Law lowered his hat in embarrassment and you slyly reached for his hand beneath the table, chuckling at the scene.
βWhen did this start?! Now we need answers,β Nami inquired. Law shifted in his seat and glanced at the restaurant door as if he were planning to make a break for it.
βAbout two years ago,β you shrugged.
Ussop stood from his seat. βWhat?! So this whole time weβve known you two youβve been married?!β
βWeβre not married,β grumbled Law, fed up with repeating himself.
βTheyβre in love,β Robin said again in her mellow tone which sparked a second burst of jeers. You giggled behind your hand and glanced at Law, a faint flush peaking through his tan.
Nami covered Chopperβs ears. βY/n is he good in bed?β Your boyfriend looked like he wanted to crawl out of his skin. He gave her a deadpanned glare, cue to simply drop the topicβ¦ but you thought it was funny.
βKeep his ears covered,β you said and the table waited on your reply. Chopper glanced around in innocence, puzzled as to why Nami had her hands over his ears.
βYes,β you smirked, and just like that the table was a riot. Law darted his icy gaze at you, clenched teeth, furrowed brows. You swore you could see a vein outlined on his forehead. But beneath the irritation, he was bashful. The man couldnβt hide the reddening of his ears even if he tried.
βDonβt be embarrassed sheβs complimenting you,β Nami teased. Luffy held his stomach while he laughed.
βNo wonder they slept in the same room,β Franky said.
βPlease donβt tell me they were doing it on the Sunny,β griped Zoro.
Law clicked his tongue and slightly raised his voice to heckle the noise. βI need all of you to listen to me.β
The table paused and everyone looked at him, mumbling a few βhuhs?β or a βwhat is it?β
βKeep this to yourselves, okay? I wanted it secret for a reason.β
Robin squinted, gears turning in that brilliant head of hers. βI assume itβs because if an enemy knows about this relationshipβ¦ theyβll use her as leverage,β
Law pursed his lips. βYesβ¦ itβs happened before so justββ he squeezed your hand and took a deep breath. βKeep your mouths shut.β
They gave him a serious nod, you could see Lawβs posture relax. He was ready to move on from the subject.
βAwww he has a soft side!β Franky joked and the table was laughing again. Law sucked his teeth, looking away as he muttered. βYouβre all hopeless.β
