Starscream is probably the funniest Transformers character to keep turning out to be effectively immortal. Megatron at least has a cult kind of thing going on and his body being reused as a powerful weapon of war by other villains also tracks. And divine intervention via the Matrix and also the narrative (toy sales) deeming him the Main Character won't fucking let Optimus Prime die and stay dead. Starscream apparently just exists to be a pathetic thorn in everyone's side.
Freak of nature. Cockroach motherfucker supreme. The universe's favorite unwitting clown who will never learn. Loathed by both Autobots and Decepticons for being So Fucking Annoying and neither side can kill him permanently. Tragic.

The original treatment for Transformers
Marvel’s Jim Shooter wrote the original pitch document for Transformers, which turned what were previously just another bunch of toys into an actual storyline with a plot. Cybertron, the Autobot/Decepticon Civil War, Optimus Prime, and Starscream (called “Ulchtar Starscream”) are in the pitch document.
The document is worth reading in its entirety, because it has an energy usually absent from documents of this type. Jim Shooter could make anything seem exciting.
My favorite part of the pitch document was something that was tragically later de-emphasized by the comics and cartoons: the tremendous isolation of the conflict. As Jim Shooter explains, since so much time passed since the Autobots and Decepticons were re-activated and rebuilt on earth, neither side can really afford to contact their home planet because they have no idea what the situation will be. They have no idea if anyone is still on Cybertron, or more importantly, which side won the war. Anything other than total radio silence could result in an overwhelming attack by the other side. Of all the elements of the original pitch for Transformers, I wish this element of the conflict would return in some future adaptation.
