about being a devotee

since i started seeing the gods literally everywhere, devoting myself feels so natural and not the way i tought it should be. with social media especifically tiktok, being younger than i am now i used to see devotion as such a distant thing and absolutely impossible for me.

but fortunately this has changed!

seeing queen persephone in the flowers that grow through concrete, remembering king hades whenver i smell fresh coffee, loki in the laughter i share with my students or comforting them when they feel like outcasts.

dancing or watching musicals for Dionysus

eating for Hestia

reading/crocheting/playing flute for Athena

texting my girlfriend and hanging out with my friends for Aphrodite

walking for Hermes

sitting outside for Persephone

devotional acts don't have to be big. they can be as simple as a breath.

As a pagan thats been practicing in secret since I was 14 and now openly in college, the most important practices to me and my journey arent fancy bottles, they aren't tons of herbs for spells or making holiday feasts that'll run you $20 and up. They're going outside and just experiencing nature, journaling what my tarot cards are telling me and introspection on little everything, finding pdfs of the Eddas, going to my campus dining hall with my friends and dedicating that meal and time to my deities. Paganism is far too commercialized and sensationalized imo, it doesn't have to be complicated: work with what your given, and once you've done that, build on it.
