this is the exact same issue with administrative records refusing to allow people to input accents on the letters in their names, having length requires on names, only allowing Latin alphabet characters, not allowing people put their last name first, or refusing to let people only input a single name. These administrative decisions are made with the logic that everyone’s names are fully legible with an unaccented Latin alphabet, that all naming conventions follow First Name Last Name, and that all people have a given name and a family name. These are not neutral assumptions! And sure maybe the Joe Averages who built the system didn’t have a racist or xenophobic bone in their bodies, but that is irrelevant when analysing its impacts. Administrative infrastructure is built on a series of decisions, and those decisions are not apolitical. You are a silly little person if you argue this is trivial
