you’re not sure exactly how long you’ve been in love with Jungkook, perhaps you always have been. but tonight, as his face glows in the gentle moonlight, something feels different and you find yourself blurting out those 3 life changing words.

loosely based off the song ‘moonlight’ by ariana grande.

A/N: hi! this is my first ever fic so i’m sorry if it isn't the best but feedback is always appreciated! I love this song so much and thought a story with Jungkook would be perfect for it. if anyone also has any requests please ask, thank you so much for reading!

“Okay, admit it. You brought me here to murder me” I said as I look around the unfamiliar place Jungkook has brought me to. When he had texted me earlier asking to meet up, I was expecting ice cream, but I ended up sat in Jungkook’s beaten up truck on top of a deserted mountain on the outskirts of town.

“Damn, my elaborate plan was foiled, may as well just get this over quickly.” Jungkook smirked while imitating holding a gun.

“Hey!” You pout.

“Alright I’m just teasing.” Jungkook said while shaking his head and giving you that boyish smile, you always were captivated by his signature grin.

In all honesty, you were captivated by Jungkook’s whole being and you had been for as long as you can remember. You two had grown up together, you knew you loved him from the beginning, even when he went through that phase of putting multi coloured streaks in his hair in your early teens. However you couldn’t act on your feelings, you couldn’t risk losing a friendship you valued so deeply.

“I thought it would be nice for us to watch the sunset together, we’re both leaving for college soon and I thought it would be nice to spend some quality time together. I brought snacks!” Jungkook said excitedly, you didn’t think you could fall in love any deeper, but boy you were wrong.

“That sounds amazing Kook, thank you.” You smiled appreciatively.

Looking out of the window to admire the scenery, you missed the way Jungkook’s eyes lingered on you like you were the only girl in the world, in fact, you were exactly that in his eyes.

A few hours later, the both of you were huddled in a thick blanket, the vibrant sunset had been replaced by the moonlight that illuminated the area. He had his arm around you while you were huddled into his shoulder and his nose buried in your hair. It was normal for you two to act like this, but every touch from him made you want to give him your heart and to have his in return.

“Y/n!” Jungkook said abruptly, diminishing your daydream.

“Huh?” You looked at him confusedly.

“You were staring.” He giggled while a blush rose through your cheeks. Jungkook then looked at you more intently, “Is there something on your mind?” 

“What?” You panicked “No of course not, you know me my mind’s always somewhere else.”

You quickly tried to change the subject, “look at the moon, it’s so beautiful” you said as you looked up at it in awe. 

The intense moonlight illuminated your features, the look of pure amazement on your face created a warm feeling in Jungkook’s chest.

“It sure is.” He said softly while his gaze was still locked on you.

“Hey wait!” Jungkook said suddenly, excitedly rushing to his feet.

“Take a picture of me holding the moon!” He exclaimed with his bunny smile while trying to position himself to achieve the perfect illusion.

“How old are you again?” you scoffed, but still while getting out your phone and pressing the camera app.

“Older than you and don’t forget it” he quipped back.

After getting the perfect angle, you had taken a multitude of photos, Jungkook expressing a variety of poses. You giggled while you swiped through the pictures.

“Wow, you really do things to my heart Kook.” you said softly to yourself.

“What does that mean?” Jungkook asked quietly, you had honestly forgot he was there and your heart rate began to increase when you had realised he heard you. You also noticed how close he was to you.

“Um I-” you took a deep breath. “Jungkook I have to tell you something”.

“Okay, what is it? Are you alright? You feeling okay?” He bombarded you worriedly with questions, that was Jungkook though, always the worrier. Well when it came to you anyway.

“Yes! Yes, I’m okay!” You say rather aggressively. “Sorry, um okay here goes”.

He grasps your shaking hands and you meet his gaze, melting under his chocolate eyes and the words just somehow fall out of your mouth.

“I love you.” you blurt out.

His eyes widen and he looks at you in shock, you immediately retract your hands and cover your face, groaning quietly at your sudden confession. Curse Jeon Jungkook and his perfect eyes! You were convinced you had ruined the friendship, how would you come back from this? “Stupid, stupid, stupid!” You chanted in your head over and over to yourself.

After what it felt like an eternity of deafening silence, you prepare yourself for the worst. But you feel strong grip on your hands covering your face. Looking up, you’re met with Jungkook’s face, a grin stretching from ear to ear. He leans in close, so close that your noses are almost touching, now it’s your turn for your eyes to widen in shock.

“You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to say that Y/n.” Jungkook smiles.

“Wha-”

“I mean it’s always been you, you’re the first person I go to when I get any news, good or bad. You’re always there whenever I need you, no one compares to you. I didn’t want to ruin the friendship and I know we’re going to different colleges soon but I had to tell you. Y/n I love you so much, I always have and I always will.”

Tears well up in your eyes as you hear those words, trust him to articulate the most beautiful speech while all you did was clumsily blurt out 3 words.

“Wow, I guess we really are kind of stupid huh?” you giggle while a tear rolls down your cheek.

“You could say that.” Jungkook smirked softly while reaching out to brush the stray tear. “No more tears now, we deserve to be happy, and we will be for a long time.” He added.

“I love you so much.” you breathed out while looking deeply into Jungkook’s eyes, you had felt like a massive weight had been lifted off your shoulders.

“I love you so much more.” He whispered, his gaze now moving down to your lips.

“Not poss-” you were cut off abruptly by Jungkook placing his lips on yours. His lips were soft and honestly perfect, it was everything you imagined and more. The both of you melted into the kiss, like you were both made for each other.

“Let’s dance!” Jungkook exclaimed while scrabbling to his feet, forcing you out of your little bubble you had been in for the past hour. “Come on!”

“Alright, you’re so bossy sometimes Kook!” You scoffed.

“But you love it baby.” The tone of his voice deepened as he drew you closer and you swear your heart just competed in the Olympic gymnastics with the amount of flips it just did.

You blushed. “But there’s no music, what are we gonna do about that smart ass?” You add while sticking your tongue out at him.

“Let’s make our own music.” He leaned in and you both started swaying gently.

You put your head on Jungkook’s chest, you fit perfectly and you knew this was home. 

“I just thought of a new pet name for you.” Jungkook said softly looking down at you. You felt so small when you were held by him, it honestly baffled you sometimes how someone could be so manly but so sweet at the same time. 

Breaking you out of your trance, you met his eyes. “What’s that?”

“Moonlight.”
