If you were to ask Toshinori to describe retirement in one word he'd pick lonely.
His days were once spent action packed as he ran around saving lives, appearing for interviews and TV shows, interacting with people who adored him. People needed him.
Nowadays his days are filled with joint pain, brief conversations with coworkers and students, and mircowavable meals for one. It felt like outside the walls of UA, the world forgot he existed.
He found himself spending more and more of his time at UA, unsure how to cope with this loneliness. This meant stopping in on off days to help hero course students train, guest speak to business course students, and really anything he could convince fellow teachers to allow him to do beyond contract hours. However, with his injures and age, there was only so much his fellow teachers would allow him to do. On a particularly hard day he decided to venture into the library, looking for any distraction. That's where he first met you.
You had recently graduated from college and moved to the city to work as UA's librarian while getting your masters. You were kind and helpful as he looked lost among the rows of books, striking up conversations with while helping. Plus, you were quite the cutie. The way your glasses framed your face sweetly and your cardigan hung off your shoulders as you smiled at him had him a stuttering mess.
Toshinori tried to shake the thoughts of you, feeling like a gross old man when he'd blush remembering the way you smiled at him, the way your hand brushed his while handing him a book, the way an All Might bookmark peaked out the book on your desk.
But this didn't stop him from visiting you throughout the day. He wanted to make sure you were adjusting to the city well, that you were enjoying your time at UA. He wanted to learn all your dreams and ambitions, what was driving you to work so hard in school. He wanted to know you.
And in turn you wanted to know him. You listened with sparkly eyes as he recounted "the ole days," giving you off the record details of his best hero missions. You took all his recommendations to heart, excitedly telling him when you tried the restaurant he suggested or forgetting to eat your lunch because you two spent the entire hour break discussing his favorite movie he suggested you watch.
Sure it wasn't millions of adoring fans cheering his name as he saved the world, but he couldn't deny his the way his heart swelled when you would ask him to join you for lunch or drop him off a coffee in the teacher's lounge because you stopped by the cafe on the way to work.
You were always thinking of him just like he was always thinking of him. And you proved that even more when you kissed his cheek after he walked you home after a particularly hard day, inviting him inside to have dinner together.
For the first time he was okay with the fact the world wasn't calling out for All Might anymore as you stood there, calling out for Toshinori with a loving smile.

I'm sorry but what's more romantic than thinking about your rival in your last moments and coming back to life for your rival and calling yourself the nickname he gave you when you were like four
