The most fun thing for Charlie about freaking Dennis out (like "how much nut do you guys blow through in a month?") then moving on without addressing it is that like.. Dennis obviously WANTS to be found out, so so bad! But well Charlie won't let him have that :) it's essentially edging. Some psychosexual power play charden shit going on these days tbh, and Dennis is gonna keep falling for it for as long as he's A) fucked in the head <3, and B) keeps assuming Charlie is stupid, even tho he should know better. it's good stuff 👍
joe u just continue to put this shit into words better than i ever could and for that i thank u 🫡
"Some psychosexual power play charden shit going on these days tbh" like!!!! It's litrlly the Clip Show shit... Charlie leading the way approaching the bench and confronting Dennis on his inconsistencies, Dennis backing up like ohhh.. ohhh nooo... u guys caught me.. whatever shall i do??🥵🥵... But ultimately Charlie isn't gonna give him the satisfaction. As he shouldnt unless theres smth in it for him<33
dennis will Never give up his superiority complex and charlie ribbing him for it is the funniest shit ever so i support charlie in this endeavor... Also as many pointed out in the tags its like the same shit charlie was doing to mac before he came out.. Our boy is nothing if not consistent LOLOLOL

This gives me fic ideas
the thing about steve that i feel like fic consistently gets wrong is that he is really not easily embarrassed at all. this is a man who did that goofy-ass handshake with dustin in the middle of the mall with nary a second thought and sang 'total eclipse of the heart' in a muppet voice to make robin laugh and cheerfully flirted with cute girls (a) while wearing a sailor outfit and (b) after striking out so many times that it turned into a running joke.
he is simply not that attached to his dignity, and i think that's beautiful

charlie. a character of eternal genuine natural youthfulness. small with that really round soft face. and has this kind of childlike even innocent personality a lot of times. completely casual and effortless about it all just being himself living in his own world. playing little games collecting his nostalgic things because theyre so cool! and just completely unaware of his age. “youve been over fourty for years” never even realizing it or caring just “okay cool! :) lets go get my present from my moms house”
dennis. that intense clawing scraping vanity. painfully aware of his aging. loud denial does nothing you can see it eating away at him. and a desperate panicked attachment to the world of his youth. not the objects themselves like charlie focuses on but searching for his past self. wishing for that youthfulness that charlie doesnt even realize hes gifted with. all that and no jealousy aimed at charlie just comforting being around that feeling again
super interesting contrast when theyre a duo. and not just dennis but i wanted to highlight the differences. charlies nature tends to make the others sometimes relax in a way when theyre one-on-one with him. charlie emitting kid energy and not judging what the others would eagerly jump to mock for being juvenile or lame as they love doing to boost their status. charlie has no status. so you wanna go do something involving your connection to your childhood? say no more im already with you. our inner child can play together in this room all day or throw rocks at trains in peace

do you ever think about the fact that dennis has very specifically and intentionally put himself in the position of "caregiver" with charlie as established back in season 1. do you think about the fact that he attempts to do so in a way that treats charlie like a child and coddles and shelters him engages with him and takes charlie's feelings into consideration and doesn't force him into anything, centering patience and understanding.
do you think about the fact that he has continued this exact approach with charlie time and time again. how he doesn't pursue or push further even if he doesn't understand or even outright disagrees with charlie, he engages on charlie's level, calms him down when he's getting worked up about something, and gets him to move past it

I always thought of Charlie being the one to have PTSD. Him and Dennis trauma buddies forever.
OH FOR SURE. the entire gang has trauma out the wazoo. the biggest reason i love charden as much as i do is their shared trauma. something so fucking healing about someone being able to intrinsically understand what you've gone through. especially for dennis who doesn't want to talk about it (and downplays it so aggressively as something desirable, an accomplishment to be proud of) and charlie who has selective amnesia about his own trauma but never misses his chance to bring up everything dennis is eager to ignore. both of them project onto each other and it seems to legitimately help them process and heal in some roundabout way because they have empathy for each other despite not being able to scrounge any up for themselves.
