August 2023: Road trip!!!

Kluiter, Troy, and myself left from KC. Picked up DC in Des Moines, and then on to Cedar Rapids, IA.

Destination: Living Colour and Extreme at the Paramount.

I’ve seen Extreme more times than I can count. But, in all my hundreds (thousands?) of live shows attended, I’d actually never seen Living Colour until now.

Both bands did not disappoint. A fully epic evening!!

As usual, Nuno was cool about hanging out for a few minutes after the show and reminiscing a little bit about the Funky Munky days. 🤘🏻

When I was a kid my church / school used to do the annual "directory". It was an EVENT. Get dressed up. Get your pics taken. And the anticipation of waiting for the directory to be published. Then months later, after it was almost forgotten, it arrived like Christmas! Bust it open. Be gentle with the binding. The sense of urgency to see all the other families. But, don't go too fast you'll rip the pages. Who was best dressed. Who needed some serious fashion assistance. Who insisted on bringing their bizarre family pet to the photo shoot. And how did we compare. It was a thing. Every. Single. Year. Until digital cameras and hi-res cameras on cell phones. And then it wasn't really a thing anymore. So, when our parish / school announced they were doing photos for church directory for the first time in a long time, I couldn't pass it up. Immediately signed us up. My wife did not have the same experience as a kid. And my kids had NO IDEA what this was all about. But, after a few eye rolls and some whatevers, they were willing to play along. Honestly, I didn't expect much from it. Very few childhood events, when relived as an adult, ever reach the epic stature you built up in your mind. But, this was a GREAT experience. The photographer was cool. We were all in a good mood and had fun with it. And the photos turned out way better than I thought they would. Box checked. A moment in time captured. Redd fam. Easter 2023!!! At least the parts we could post online. The rest of the time people were lounging in their underwear and saying things that are NSFW. HA!!

Tue, Feb 22, 2022 - Florida college trip post 5. Today (day 6) was our last day for this trip. One of a few times we got to put the top down on our blue Ford Mustang rental car. And then a tour of Rollins College. The campus was gorgeous!!

Mon, Feb 21, 2022 - Florida college trip post 4. Day 5 continued with a stop by the Florida Southern College baseball field, then a tour of the University of Tampa. Apparently I forgot I had a camera phone for most of that tour, including seeing the UT baseball team practice on their field. I did grab a shot of a cool Babe Ruth plaque though. We ended the day with Lucas having a hitting lesson with former MLB player Jason Michaels, and more seafood.

Mon, Feb 21, 2022 - Florida college trip post 3. Today (day 5) was a busy day! Started with a tour of Florida Southern College. The architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright dominates the campus and is incredibly beautiful!

Sun, Feb 20, 2022 - Florida college trip post 2. Saturday (day 3) featured a baseball game at Florida State. They were playing James Madison University. Got to see Chase DeLauter bat and play CF for JMU. He didn’t have a great day at the plate, but he’s ranked pretty high in mock drafts for 2022. Florida State won big.

On Sunday we went back to Gainesville for a Florida game vs Liberty University. First pitch after we sat down… first pitch of the bottom of the 2nd… was fouled off, bounced off the roof and almost knocked Lucas in the head!! I reached up to catch it; didn’t make the catch but at least deflected it away. And grabbed it after a bounce and roll. Souvenir!!

Fri, Feb 18, 2022 - Lucas and I hit the road again. This time via plane to FLA to check out colleges.

Day 1 (Thursday) was a visit to the University of Florida in Gainesville. Headed to a Tallahassee for some baseball workout time at Powermill Sports. They have very entertaining artwork on baseballs in their bathroom. Seafood at Island Seafood for dinner.

Friday (day 2) was a visit to Florida State and more seafood for dinner including raw oysters at Bird’s Aphrodisiac Oyster Shack. They have funny signs on the walls.

Sat, June 5, 2021 - Ms. Delaney was jealous that Dad and Lucas had 4 days full of baseball, so she tried to outdo them by hanging with Mom and her KC Athletics Roma soccer team in a suite at the K to watch the Royals.

Detour!!! June 6, 2021 - On the way home from the Indianapolis baseball tourney, made a pit stop in St. Louis for a Cards game vs the Reds. Reds nudged it out 8-7 in the 9th. Still a great game with some fun memories including fans singing Don’t Stop Believing and Piano Man during an umpire injury break.

Road trip!!! June 2, 2021 - Pat and Lucas hit the road for Indianapolis. Baseball tourney with Mac n Seitz 16u - Floyd. Got in some mini golf, plus some darts and cornhole at Punch Bowl Social. Pat wrapped it up with a walk on the Monon Trail.

Every year, the 5th grade group of Webelos Scouts at St. Elizabeth goes on a trip to the Missouri capital, Jefferson City, to learn about government, earn some badges, and have some fun!! As part of our trip we visited the Missouri State Penitentiary and heard some truly amazing stories from when it was open. Our final stop on the trip was Central Dairy. Yum!

Every year, the 5th grade group of Webelos Scouts at St. Elizabeth goes on a trip to the Missouri capital, Jefferson City, to learn about government, earn some badges, and have some fun!! While at the capitol building, we were treated to the super cool tour to the top for some scenic views, plus a private tour of the Governor’s office.

Every year, the 5th grade group of Webelos Scouts at St. Elizabeth goes on a trip to the Missouri capital, Jefferson City, to learn about government, earn some badges, and have some fun!! Stop #2 was the capitol building. The tour was in-depth and very informative. Our tour guides were AWESOME! And we even spent some time in the State Senate chambers.

2nd tournament of the Fall Ball season for Lucas' baseball team. Monster Bash 2016. Had a great weekend. Went 5-0. Won 1st place !!!
