We seek to experience a revival of consciousness and covenant with our creator as we endeavor to follow the revolutionary example of Jesus Christ. We believe Christ's example in scripture was that of "servant-leadership" and we strive to have that reflected in all that we do. We believe the Gospel of Christ was never intended to be used as a weapon against the marginalized but, rather, to be used as an example of the holistic nature of real ministry. This example is one which shows that we should meet those we intend to serve where they are, and serve them in the context of their needs. We believe in the inherent worth of all human beings and wholeheartedly reject the idea that a person's sexual orientation, gender/identity, and/or expression disqualifies them from having an authentic spiritual walk.

This is wonderful!
Botswana decriminalize homosexuality in a land mark ruling
After three judges came to the decision unanimously, Judge Michael Elburu delivered the verdict.
“Human dignity is harmed when minority groups are marginalized,” he said.
He labelled laws banning gay sex as “discriminatory” and said: “Sexual orientation is not a fashion statement. It is an important attribute of one’s personality.”
The law has been in place since 1965 when it was brought in by the colonial British government.
Read it here.

God has not called us to be Christians in just our words... no... Our deeds must also reflect the love of Christ.

My Fellow Americans…
Hey Family,
I just wanted to take a moment to ask a question that has been bugging me for a while now. When are we going to realize that the current administration is just a symptom of a larger problem. America has been sick for years, 45 is just the fever, nausea, & vomiting we got once the symptoms manifested. Now, I could begin to go on and on about things that could have prevented this but then I’d just sound like the parent who tells the child AFTER they get sick, “I told you to wear a coat and keep something on your head that covers your ears.” That’s not helpful. Hell, we’re already sitting in bed with tissues, soup, vapor rub, water, & orange juice. The focus at this point is, how do we cure the disease that has America on her sick bed?
I don’t have the answer to that BUT I know one place we can start….. We can begin by letting our voices by heard 24/7, 365. It’s not enough to just show up and vote. That may get me in trouble with some folks but it’s the truth. If we continue to think that all our problems can be solved at the ballot box, we are mistaken. The ballot box doesn’t save unarmed folks who are killed by police at alarming rates. The ballot box doesn’t protect trans women of color or seek justice for them once they are killed. The ballot box does not let politicians know that the wealthy and “middle class” are not the only people who exist in this country. The ballot box has it’s place and it does serve A purpose BUT it is NOT a cure to what plagues America.
Why?
Well, let’s look at it this way. There were a lot of folks who went out and voted for 45 who are now being harmed by the decisions made by this administration. I won’t believe that they honestly believed that their vote was a vote to hurt themselves. Now, they may have seen it as a vote to hurt someone else but not themselves. It’s just not human nature to do that.
I turn my attention now to the comments section of news articles and media content available from the “Conservative” right. I read through these in an effort to understand how the other side thinks. In the content I see a lot of things that frustrate me but the main thing is this tendency to mentally dehumanize those who are “other”. You see it on subjects like race, immigration, police brutality, poverty, homelessness, etc….. You also see it on progressive and liberal outlets. This tendency to simultaneously cry out to have our humanity recognized while dehumanizing those we view as our enemies is disheartening to me.
Why?
Honestly…. I was once a Conservative Evangelical Christian. Yep. I once believed a lot of what I hear coming from life long Republicans. In my youth, I supported Roy Moore’s views on the Ten Commandments being in the federal courthouse. I once held the “traditional marriage” viewpoint. There was a point in my life where I believed so strongly in “Conservative Values” that I lived an inauthentic life to appear in tune with them. It was not until I met and had hard conversations with people I disagreed with that my beliefs started to evolve. It was hard to believe that all non Christians are going to burn in Hell when I met non Christian people who were much more like the biblical Christ than most Christians I knew. When I sat down with people who had a grasp on the separation of church and state, my eyes were open the the circular logic I’d been applying all of my life. These realizations shook me to my very core but they forced me to examine my beliefs and prejudices and decide what beliefs were kind and in line with the person I want to be and which ones needed to be discarded. What I found at the core of it all was that I had spent much of my life dehumanizing people I did not understand. As a nation, many of us have been doing that for some time. Perhaps if we started to individually and collectively work through that, we would see lasting progress in many areas.

The Mandate….
The mandate for Christians is NOT to persecute those who don’t agree with you. The mandate is to love… Love God with all your heart, mind, soul, & strength…. AND to love your neighbor (not just the one you like) as yourself.
What does that look like for you?

Knowledge
Fact: Many people & organizations are not successful because they lack the training necessary to reach their goals. What if churches and other organizations understood community development and knew how to tailor their outreach to accomplish their objectives?

Our Why...
In many cases, LGTBQ+ people of color are placed in a situation where they have to choose between living their truth and maintaining a connection with the “black” church. If they are fortunate enough to find an affirming ministry to call home, many of these people find themselves immersed in fellowship at a place that does not speak to their spiritual traditions and so, once again, they are placed in a position to “check” part of themselves at the door. This blog, and the project associated with it, are our attempt at working to speak to this largely unmet need.
We endeavor to be a resource for LGBTQ+ POC, and others, by offering ministry resources that speak to the needs of this demographic beyond the context of sermons. These needs are unique to the socioeconomic factors which often push LGBTQ+ POC to the margins of our society. We believe that ministry = service and we understand that you cannot serve a demographic effectively if you have not taken the time to understand them. For this reason, we are using this and other platforms to identify the needs of the people so that we can move in such a way that our efforts are effective.
Please take a moment to follow this blog and stay tuned for opportunities to provide insight as we move forward.
