Quand il faut supporter le collègue qui renifle / tousse / soupire / murmure dans sa barbe / parle extrêmement fort au téléphone environ 1000 fois par jour depuis 2 mois. - Having to stand the colleague that has been sniffling / coughing / sighing / whispering / speaking super loudly on the phone non-stop for 2 months now.

Quand on envoie un mail de feedback à un traducteur très expérimenté qui a fait pas mal de fautes dans une traduction et qu’il nous répond en s’excusant platement. - Sending feedback to a very experienced translator who made numerous mistakes in one of his translations and getting a very humble apology.

Quand le gars de la PAO te pose une question complexe à laquelle tu ne sais pas répondre et que du coup il te demande oklm “verstehst du Deutsch?”

Quand ensuite il décide d’appeler au téléphone ta maître de stage pour lui demander “kann sie mich verstehen?” Alors que t’es genre JUSTE À CÔTÉ. Et que oui, tu comprends ce qu’il dit. Ce connard.

Quand il continue de parler de PAO pendant encore ½ heure alors que t’aimerais juste lui dire...

Et quand enfin tu peux retourner à tes occupations

Quand on espère que les intervenantes vont nous redonner confiance. Parce que c’est pas qu’on nous rabâche que le marché de la traduction est pourri mais presque. - Hoping that the speakers will give us hope about our future as translators. 

Quand on nous annonce des tarifs de fifou (0,40€/mot). - When we’re told that some people ask for 0,40€/word.

Et quand on repart regonflés sur notre avenir dans la traduction. - And when we leave the conference feeling much better about becoming translators

Quand lors d’un atelier sur la traduction une étudiante en lettres modernes demande si “c’est nécessaire de maîtriser une langue qu’on veut traduire ou si juste la parler à l’oral ça suffit”.

When a student asks during a meeting about translation if “it’s necessary to really be fluent” in a language you want to translate or if “just speaking it” is enough.
