What do you mean by "Meet Cute"?: A meet cute is a scene in which two people meet for the first time in a charming, humorous, or unusual way and eventually become a romantic couple. It's a common trope in romantic comedies, but can also appear in sitcoms and soap operas.

Can my story have other relationship pairings?: Yes, but Mycroft and Greg must be the primary romantic pairing featured in the story.

Can I post crossovers with another fandom?: Yes, but all other rules must be followed.

I added my story - Why don't I see my story in the collection?: All stories added to this collection are moderated, meaning they must be confirmed by a collection moderator before they are added. Stories will be confirmed within 24 hours - please be patient :)

I finished my story early - can I add it to the collection now?: The collection will not be open for new story submissions until May 1, 2025.

Because I'm unwell about that little government freak, here's some Mystrade headcanons and thoughts (I cannot get them out my head):

Their go to takeaway is Chinese. Myc has mushroom chop suey and Greg has chicken in black bean sauce. They usually get chips too even though they can never finish them.

When Greg kisses Mycroft in the morning, he always makes sure he's cleaned his teeth first. Myc hates morning breath.

Sherlock chose not to believe them when the boys announced their relationship, so Greg and Mycroft made it a game to make Sherlock as uncomfortable as possible. Just to piss him off a bit.

On the days when Myc is non-verbal, Greg writes little sticky notes for him. This has resulted in them having lots of sticky note pads just laying about the house, ready to use.

Mycroft's shower gel & shampoo is coconut. Greg hates coconut, but he'll never admit that.

Their favourite dates are always in Mycroft's home cinema.

The first time Mycroft said he loved Greg was accidentally in his sleep. The second time was on purpose the next morning.

In a similar vein, Greg had told Myc months before that he loved him, also accidentally while drunk.

I've found so many delightful new fandoms this way.

One of my favourite things when reading fanfiction is when you click with an author's style so much that you adore the fanfiction you're reading, and once it's over you need more. So you go to their page and hope that there's more for any fandom you might know- only there isn't any. They've written for other fandoms you aren't familiar with and never would've thought about before.

But you're down so bad for their style and talent that they got you wading in like:

made up an entire backstory for lestrade because i’m so normal about him (and considering we were robbed of it during the actual show) including facts such as but not limited to:

he is an arsenal fan (as rupert did actually confirm at one point & i agree lol) and is quite passionate about it.

he lives in a flat above a restaurant or pub in east london, something nice but functional, with and the odd picture or plant but it’s pretty sparsely decorated.

he got his manual license as a teen and later his automatic when he joined the force.

he studied history and law at uni and considered being a lawyer. he grew up watching a lot of american crime & mystery films/tv but detective work wasn’t something he gave very much consideration to when he joined the force as a constable. he then realized he had a knack for spotting details, interrogation and thinking one step ahead and decided to give it a go.

he subsequently stopped watching crime media as it was either too dramatized or too realistic. he’s more of a sit-com kind of guy now.

he met his wife in university and never had any children (though i go back and forth on this one because lestrade is the epitome of the sad divorced dad rock music aesthetic).

his last name is french but he’s rather rubbish at languages.

he was born in june.

he’s got a younger sister who lives in cornwall who he likes to visit during the summer, and he likes to spoil his niece.

he likes to listen to r&b.

he suspected his wife of having the affair; sherlock merely confirmed it. he took himself on a divorce holiday to corfu before being called to baskerville.

he’s nowhere near as stupid as he is made out to be, in fact he’s rather direct and does indulge in sarcasm—though he’s had to reign it in during interrogations.

he likes to jog in the park & doesn’t begin his day until at least 10am when he’s off-duty.

he definitely drinks straight black coffee. probably attempted to pick up e-cigs as an alternative to cigarettes but just couldn’t do it.

he consulted sherlock on a case as opposed to sherlock stumbling along because he’s smart enough to know when he’s out of his depth.

he gossips with sally.

he was initially skeptical of john but slowly came to appreciate him. he’s intrigued by mycroft and how alike yet different he is from sherlock.

he does own nice clothing & occasionally indulges in a good meal but he’s conservative with his money, and probably complains about the tfl a lot even though he does own a car.

This is how hyperfixation works:

This is a three second scene. Maybe four if I'm being generous.

But Mycroft and Greg have an entire conversation through glances in those four seconds.

And those conversations? They only happen when you've been together for y e a r s.

This four seconds is all it took to shove me off a cliff of OTP obsession.

And the kicker?

Sherlock isn't even awake...

Sherlock is utterly unperturbed by the various comments that people make about his sexuality. But then his brother just has to say "Don’t be alarmed, it has to do with sex," and it’s "Sex doesn’t alarm me!" in the most obviously defensive tone.

"He is the British Government. When he’s not too busy being the British Secret Service. And the CIA on a freelance basis."

Then we learn in ASIB that Mycroft does have "masters", doesn't exactly trust the British Secret Service, and his relationship with the CIA seems rocky.

It's cute that Sherlock, who is so smart, believes that Mycroft is an all-powerful figure who controls the entire nation (and any foreign countries he chooses), because Mycroft is oh so clever and brilliant, when it should be clear that it's not humanly possible. This is really an extreme case of big brother worship.

I love that Mycroft usually speaks more slowly than Sherlock, but during their deduction game he speaks as fast as his little brother.

I hc that Mycroft used to speak really fast as a child, and learned to speak more slowly around his late teens to communicate with goldfish. And he found that speaking at a normal speed was so much more effective. He could make his words long and precise. This new way of speaking suited his temperament, and it quickly became natural for him.

As an adult he no longer talks at lightning speed. He generally doesn't speak fast to Sherlock, certainly not during those moments when there's more of a parent/child dynamic between the brothers. But the Holmes boys can easily shift from the parent/child-like dynamic to being two kids depending on the situation, and those moments are the only times when Mycroft may be heard speaking really quickly like he used to.
