Empryean Founders.

Ruhiel, Founder of the Pack.

Leaving his born-pack and seeking to start one of his own, he wandered the cold Mountains in search of a partner. After a few short weeks as a loner he came across a lone female wolf - he’d follow her around trying to impress her until she eventually approached him about his stalking. They would spent the next few weeks hunting together and building up a bond. The pair became inseperable, their silent agreement that they would start a pack together led them to finally settling in a cave near the base of the Mountain.

Orifiel, Partner to Ruhiel. Lead Pupsitter.

The other half to Ruhiel, she grew up in a loving pack environment with many siblings. She loved her pack but felt very crowded and decided it was time for her leave. On her journey from the Grasslands she was followed by a lone male who seemed eager to please her. She was smitten upon setting her eyes on him, they would spend weeks together before settling down in the Mountains.

Hunting Parties: Aimee’s Club

While this hunting party has technically been existing longer than Raven’s Clutch, it’s the second one to be really converted to my new system of keeping wolves closer in age and keeping them together for life.

Aimee Lostwood— Captain and Chaser. The granddaughter of Honey, the pack’s first leader, Aimee has a lot to live up to. Despite a bit of a rough childhood from her parents’ constant arguing, she’s become a confident and capable leader of her party. She’s close friends with Wren, and has a not-so-secret crush on Pine.

Pine— Stalker. A former loner who only joined the pack in the last year or so, Pine already gets along well with just about everyone. He’s a little bit impatient, and frequently goes off on his own to explore, as he still hasn’t quite settled into pack life. He also takes a lot of risks in an attempt to impress Aimee.

Mare— Chaser. Another former loner, Mare joined the pack just recently, after leaving her home in the prairie to escape human hunters. She’s the newest addition to the party and as such, she doesn’t have many close friends. She prefers the peace and quiet of Moon’s company to hanging out with the rest of the party.

Moon Stargazer— Chaser. Unlike the other party members, Moon stays quiet, rarely socializing outside of hunts. She prefers to spend time with her mate Orion and their daughter Whisper when they’re not out scouting. She’s also one of the few wolves that seems to get along with the pack’s two Spiritborn.

Wren Elkhunt— Finisher. While both of her mothers were Chasers, Wren followed in the footsteps of her grandmother Twig to become a Finisher. She and Aimee are close friends, and she spends a lot of her free time with the pack’s leader, Fisher.

Honorary mention:

Breeze Winterborn was the party’s leader until her recent retirement. She’s the niece of Salmonberry, one of the pack’s founding members, and the mother of the pupsitter Hoot, the future hunting captain Ember, and one of the pack’s resident Spiritborn, a strange two-headed wolf named Rip. Breeze’s wisdom continues to be valuable to the pack, and she has volunteered to help train the next generation alongside Sequoia and the pupsitters.

Soft River Pack Naming Legacies

As it happens in societies, the naming conventions of the Soft River Pack have changed over the several generations from the pack’s beginning. This is a short explanation of how they’ve changed (and why). The generations are not necessarily actual generations, but are instead the naming generations I’ve noticed I used.

First Generation:

Starting with Abaise and Kotsim, wolves are named using words to describe them translated into either Lakota or Shoshoni, both Native languages from around Yellowstone National Park. Most names are a bit more vague translation words, as many of the words directly translated are either very long or very hard for my white ass self to pronounce, and didn’t want to completely butcher them.

Second Generation:

Wolves start to be named short, simple two word nature-related names. First example of this is Abaise and Kotsim’s pups Morning Sun and Golden Eagle. This naming convention is widespread in the pack now, and is the usual way of naming pups.

Third Generation:

The third generation of naming conventions is slowly starting, with a lot of varying names and way of naming puppies. From the long way, brought in by She Who Sees The Ocean, to occasional one word nature names, the size of the pack is definitely lending to differentiation in naming conventions. Where this will go is yet to be seen.
