VERY interested in seeing this unpacked in your thoughts. I find your Vander so interesting, it's hard to find a writer who does give him genuine flaws but doesn't make him COMPLETELY evil, you know? Too many fics I had to stop reading because the writer made Vander into this mindless abusive person to Silco, who magically didn't have a spine anymore

I’m glad (and relieved) you think I’m handling the characterisation well so far. I think about DV and abusive partners all the time just because of my own childhood and experiences ;—; I can’t read a lot of fics that jump to either end of the spectrum or if it’s too caricature-like.

The (most of the) show writers didn’t handle any of this well — or frankly at all (and I’m not just talking about Vander and Silco either). You can see where the artists were fighting for their lives trying to convey more nuance through micro expressions and stuff lmao. Sigh.

I feel like Devotion is one of the staple fics in the fandom like Honey, Honey and Coming Home it’s amazing

hii I just wanted to say I really like how you write felicia!! In the show I kind of disliked how we never really got to see/hear much of her besides her being the dead mom/friend character so it's very nice to have your interpretation of her :) I like how you can see parts of both powder and vi's personality in her while still being her own person also her dynamic to silco is so fun!

I’m crying there are so many de4d anime moms ;—; I’m so glad you like how she comes across in Devotions!!! She’s so nice to writer and I think she’s full of life and zest and humour :3 very much Silco’s sister too and the gel that holds things together often.

No need to answer if it’s too spoilery or something that will be answered in the fic very soon but out of curiosity since you mentioned it before, does baby Viktor find out about the violence happening between Vander and Silco separately from the river incident or is that the one? Both ways are insanely traumatizing, my heart is breaking for him and Sil more and more, :( 💔💔💔 so excited for chapter 14 eeeee I always message all my friends “MY SHOW IS ON!!” when I see updates

The river incident kinda confirms it beyond reasonable denial for Viktor 🥲 I think deep down he suspects — hes far too perceptive and smart (and more mature than kids his age). But he separately doesn’t want to believe that Vander would hurt Sil, so any excuse or reason, esp when given by Sil himself, he clings to.

It’s hard to do that after what happens in the river….

This is the chapter that I truly fell head-over-heels in love with this fic. Seeing Silco and Vander care for a sick baby Viktor and how Viktor is already seeing Silco as a parent... heartwarming isn't a strong enough word! Maybe heart-scorching?

I’ll keep it vague to avoid specific plot spoilers but yes, their close sibling bond will be a big part of the story! I ADORE sibling Viktor and powder / jinx fics and there aren’t many. I love all permutations omg … keep meaning to put a rec list together.

Reading the most recent chapters in devotion, it becomes really evident how insecure vander is of the asymmetric family dynamic where Vik is obviously closer to Silco, which is very human and understandable.

When Sil thinks to himself that he must not undermine Vik and Vander’s father son relationship by revealing the ugly truth, I couldn’t help but wonder if Van would extend the same generosity to Silco. Does he feel the same obligation to protect the pedestal that Victor keeps Sil on, or does some part of him want to knock Sil down a peg or two in Victor‘s mind? At the very least, he doesn’t seem to have major qualms with letting Vik know that Silco betrayed his trust with Anton..

I adore this question, Anon — sorry for the delay in answering. I think Vander wouldn’t consciously think that; he does genuinely love Silco and wants to see him happy and derives a lot of pride and joy seeing Silco being so soft / caring / nurturing with Viktor (which is a whole other aspect to unpack honestly).

I do think personality wise that Vander — esp this young Vander — does not think things through enough before acting. He improves for sure! But he’s far less deliberate in his actions, whereas we see that Sil is extremely observant and calculated in every gesture, his tone etc.

In canon this might have come across as manipulative in many situations but we got so many breadcrumbs about how he cared for and tried his best to make powder feel valued and worthy etc. so in this way, Vander’s approach to Viktor re Anton etc was him just talking without a filter.

As tensions rise, esp in the “silent fighting” stage, resentment builds and Vander actively wants to prevent Vik from bonding overly with Sil. He becomes more protective over his own relationship w his son :<

Yes! His dad was a home-grown zaunite and his mum was from Freljord and spoke to baby Viktor in her native Freljordian (dialect)!

I’m reading your wonderful fic and I just got to the birthday chapter and I dont know why this got to me so much but Jayce wanting to give Silco a bee! A singular little pet bee to make him honey oh gods my heart

🐝 I’m so so happy you enjoy butterball jayce and his bee obsession! He feels so sweet and well intentioned to me — lots of character study possibilities. I think his naivety was initially ehhh to zaundads but they couldn’t help but be charmed / won over.

Alas your baby JayVik are so adorable I love every interaction between them, all the pure devotion and happiness they have with each other. It’s precious. I’m so conflicted🥲sort of don’t want them to grow up but at the same time really want to meet the person they grow into.

I just read the answer you had that people are guessing if Silco gave birth to Vik and Silco totally pulls the mum card. I laughed so hard hahaha very good Silco well done, mum🤣

Can’t help but imagine in the future, Vik, in so many ways similar to Silco, will totally give his mami a taking to when Silco is not taking very good care of his own health.

Viktor absolutely keeps on Silco about his health. I have an entire little arc that’s Viktor vs Silco’s tobacco habit 😂 the way they would stale mate eachother into eating healthy and sleeping better omg. Mutual threats about not eating veggies heheheh

I have a question will Anton become more like a step-dad for Viktor when Vander is out of the picture? Or is he more cool uncle?

I can’t give you a straight answer without spoiling majorly but let’s say Viktor calls the shots 👹👀 and Viktor is VERY protective and defensive of mama after the bridge. I think Anton fancies himself the coolest of uncles. I also think he never actually expected everything re the bridge to actually happen the way it did — if nothing else he had assumed that Vander would protect Sil and Vik.

Thank you ;—; sorry for the late reply. Viktor’s biological father wasn’t always…bad :( basically stress and depression etc turned him to drink and it all went downhill very fast esp after Viera passed away. He would sometimes get violent and shouted a lot so that’s why Viktor has handshy response — and doesn’t like sudden loud noises at home :( eg door slamming.

Vander really has improved over he years since they got Viktor in that he’s learned self restraint a lot earlier than he did in canon I think!

Also I’m glad you like teen viktor… Jayce is not gonna stand a chance!

I had a vision of a mod AU of ur devotions fic while I was at work today but its just Silco being the most insufferable parent at pickup who keeps humble bragging abt Viktor like:

“oh your kid had a tantrum at Walmart? I can’t remember the last time Viktor threw a tantrum, he just sits in cart and plays on his Nintendo while I shop. 🥰”

Silco would be an insufferably smug / proud parent. Viktor is the best baby in the world no one else is as good or smart or cute etc and he would humble brag 24/7 … all the while looking SO WELL PUT TOGETHER — you know he dresses in such stylish understated chic. He’s the hottest mum at pickup :3

Little Viktor at the supermarket or grocer would be so cute because I think he’d love reading the labels or ingredients and telling Mami abt facts he learned abt various foods (even though his mouth is still learning and catching up to his brain haha!).

I feel like Sil would limit screen time but he defs buys Viktor all the gadgets hehe. Viktor’s greatest fear when out and about is getting his cheek pinched by strangers!
