Are we allowed to submit unfinished drawings? I have a sketch planned out but I’m not sure if I’ll get to finishing it

Hi Anon! This is a more complex than a simple yes or no. Explicitly unfinished works are not allowed, but with a big asterisk!

To clarify, for this event there aren't exact parameters for what a "finished" piece is, since you are creating for yourself (unlike in the exchange event). That means you get to decide when a piece is done!

That being said, we'd like to see works that you are proud of in one way or another. As long as you are comfortable with calling a piece "finished," whether it's a polished fic, a fully rendered art piece, or just a simple doodle, that's acceptable!

The mods discussed it and we decided that it was time to start a Discord Server to help make communication during events for mods and participants smoother. While we’re going to need the server for the very mysterious summer event we thought we’d test it out for Campfire Fest too. So come on over and chat with us about the fest!

Q: Oh nice, a new Outer Wilds General Server.

A: Hold on there Traveler, that’s not what this is for. This server is directed towards communication specifically about events run on Tumblr at Outer Wilds Events. Some of the events we’re planning require more participant interaction than Tumblr easily allows, so we’re starting the server. It’s also a good way to get to know your fellow participants or get a hold of a mod if you need to! 

Q: So what are we supposed to talk about here?

A: The events, of course! There will be channels set up during each event that lets you chat with fellow participants about what you are working on (unless it’s the exchange), channels dedicated to running the event for assignments and such, and channels for feedback/asking mods specific questions. 

Q: Did you really need one for Campfire Fest?

A: Probably not, but it’s a good one to test the waters on, don’t you think? 

Q: No, no, no I was going to say something funny in one of the event channels and it’s gone!

A: That’s probably because the event is over. Channels will be locked when an event is over so we can set things up for whatever event is coming next.

Submissions to the event must be made during the Submission Period or Late Submission Period.

Submissions must be completed during the event, including the late submission period. 

One single work will not count towards multiple days. This excludes interconnected chapters to a story or comic.

Submissions will only be posted on the day of the prompt, all late submissions for a prompt will be posted during the late submissions period. 

NSFW content is not permitted. 

Submissions must be appropriately tagged for triggers/spoilers/etc. 

All Submissions must have titles. Untitled works will be titled by a mod. (Mod Muse reserves the right to title every unnamed work “A Terrible Fate”.)

Submissions will be made by posting to your own blog and mentioning the blog like so “@outerwilds-events” in the body of your post.

Q: What is A Fest? 

A fest is a challenge in which participants choose a prompt or prompts from a list compiled by the fest moderator. It’s like telling tales, sharing art, and making music around the campfire. 

Q: Do I have to answer all the prompts? 

Of course not, Traveler! That’d be a lot of work! You can answer as many prompts as you want over as many days as you want. You can submit a single work for a single prompt during the whole week, or try to hit them all. 

Q: Do I have to write for this? 

Traveler, we aren’t all tale spinners and that’s a good thing! You can respond in any medium you want, art, fic, pod fic, playlists, or anything else you can think of is fine!

Q: If I do write, is there a word limit? 

Nope. 

Q: Is shipping allowed? 

Yes.

Q: Are spoilers okay here? 

Did they not cover that in training? Traveler, spoilers are fine as long as you tag for it.

Q: What does “open prompt” for Day 7 mean?

The sky’s the limit on open prompt day! You can submit anything you want, as long as it complies with the rest of the rules. 

Q: I'm ready to submit! When can I do that?

During the submission period from March 2nd - March 8th on each prompts day. You can also submit any prompts during the late submission period from March 9th - March 15th.

Q: Right. How do I submit?

We're retiring the submission feature, that’s for sure. When you're ready to post just post on your blog and @ the event blog somewhere in the post. We will reblog posts in the order they were received.

Is it okay to join the Discord server to just lurk, or is it just for active participants in the event? I’m not sure if I’ll be participating yet but I don’t know if I should join if I won’t actually be saying anything there ^^”

You can only submit art on the day of the prompt during the week of March 2 -8. You can of course pre-make your art if you want. I know I couldn't write a fic day for a whole week!

I’m a bit confused about how the days work-

Is it like, on Day 1, you can pick one of the prompts listed, or is it that all the prompts are connected and the post needs to include all of them?

Hi Anon!

You can choose to participate either way! We try to give options for prompts so you aren't tied down to one thing that you might not be too enthusiastic about making a fan work for. Some people do try to connect all the prompts, but you don't have to!

Checking for rule clarification - writing one fic and having a different chapter each day fit that days themes would go against rule 3, I'm guessing?

Yo, I'm Fridurmus! I'm a fic author, part-time editor, and full-time internet relic. If you've heard of me, it's probably from Learning to Catch at the End of Everything or Old Feathers Among Young Pine Trees. I'm excited to be helping my friend awanderingmuse with running events in the fandom that got me writing seriously again!

The first Quantum Entanglement Exchange was awesome. As stated before we had 49 participants for this very fun event! That is triple the amount from last years Campfire Fest and about double how many participants Mod Muse was expecting. It was a very happy surprise for her! Thanks to everyone who participated, it wouldn't have been nearly as great without you!

The Feedback Period is Over

The polls have all ended and I will be closing the ask box after the Master list is posted. The ask box will open again when we announce the prompts for Campfire Fest!
