(Not a Wicked fan, I've never seen it, I know at most vaguely what it's about)

So people edited the poster for the new Wicked in a way that the new Elphaba's (i think that's her name) eyes and nose are covered, apparently it's supposed to resemble the original poster more. The actress (a Black woman) who plays her spoke up about it and said she found it very disrespectful and offensive, and people online did too, calling it rude and racist.

I am genuinely not trying to be offensive, but I don't see why everyone is calling that disrespectful or racist? At most my belief is that it might be odd/potentially discriminatory if it was prompted by nothing but a desire to replicate the original poster (even if it is more in a joking way) is genuine. Also, even if there's no reason for it, I can't comprehend why photoshopping an actress's eyes and mouth of a promo poster is offensive and/or racist? I don't think I'd care about it if I was in her position, and I really can't understand why people are freaking out about thsi.
