In honor of Pride Month, I'd like to make a post about Marvel's first gay character, Arnie Roth. Arnie Roth first appeared in Captain America (1968) #268 [Apr 1982] and was created by writer J.M. DeMatteis and artist Mike Zeck. He is Steve Rogers's childhood best friend who Steve reconnects with after a chance encounter on the street.
No explicit reference is made to his sexuality, but the subtext is pretty blatant. Marriage "never seemed like [...] the right thing for [him]." When he reconnects with Steve, Arnie is rooming with his best friend Michael. He asks Steve for help after Arnie's gambling debts lead to Michael's kidnapping.
Cap is able to help rescue Michael, but a few issues later, Baron Zemo and Arnim Zola kidnap both Arnie and Michael and transfer their brains into artificial mutate bodies under Zemo's control (yes, I know, these are still comic books after all). Cap is forced to battle Arnie and Michael's mutate bodies, and while he is able to save Arnie, Michael is fatally wounded in the battle.
In Captain America (1968) #279 [Mar 1983], Steve and Arnie visit Michael's grave together and the nature of Arnie's relationship to Michael is made pretty obvious, although use of any specific labels is still avoided.
Later, in issue #290, Nomad (Jack Monroe) is about to ask Cap about Arnie's sexuality before they are interrupted by that issue's villain.
This is as far as I've read for Arnie Roth appearances, but I will make a follow-up post if there is more to add.

A short ode to Ultimate Steve Rogers
What with Ultimate End coming out starting Wednesday and the Ultimate Universe ending as we know it, I have decided that this is a good time to rhapsodize about my love for Ults Steve. (I mean, he’s been dead for a bit, but he’s on the covers! Maybe we’ll see him again! I have hope!)

people like to say that superhero movies “aren’t realistic” but what about that time Steve Rogers hurled himself out of a plane without a parachute rather than deal with a friend’s questions about his love life

“…nothing I saw out there on any tour of duty shakes me up like Tony Stark does, Cap. You ever see a man conduct a multilingual business deal, satisfy a girlfriend over the phone, and memorize a six hundred page military briefing all at the same time?” —The Ultimates #10
“Who can say? He’s smart, relentless and learns new skills faster than a damn computer…we have to assume Cap knows everything” —Ultimate Avengers #2
In conclusion: their babies would be SMART and BEAUTIFUL
