I forgot to ask, (and unsure if I could emotionally handle it), how was LiS: BtS?
Overall, I enjoyed it. I love that they kept the overall feel with the original LiS and I felt they did a good job further developing the characters. Rachel was basically how I imagined she’d be. I just wish they’d expanded on her and Chloe’s relationship a bit more. Whether you have Chloe be romantic or platonic with Rachel basically gives you the same ending, which was disappointing.
I had so many problems with the plot at the end, too. The arc with Rachel’s mom just felt forced and too quickly resolved. And how they bridge the ending to the first game was so completely jarring. It felt as if they were taunting the player and with the atmosphere of the rest of the game, it was unsettling. It just didn’t seem to fit.
There are some parts that are emotionally heavy, especially in regards with Chloe and William, and there were a couple of scenes that hit me pretty hard. So if you haven’t played or seen it yet, and want to, I would go in with that in mind.
I did love it, though. It felt like a good prequel and added so much to the original game.

So, thoughts on LiS2 so far?
Honestly, I’m still processing. Of course, I am HYPED. A lot of the graphics have improved. I love the soundtrack. I love the characterization. The intro had me hooked immediately.
I mean, there are some rough edges. The voice acting is a little off in some places, for example, but it doesn’t really bother me.
That ending of the game play trailer, though. So much happens in the span of, what, a minute and a half? It’s a lot to take in. Almost too much. But there’s some heartbreaking truth in that scene and I love that Dontnod’s trying to add more diversity and representation in this game.
I think this is going to be a great game and I’m really looking forward to playing it. September can’t come fast enough!
Also, my husband is in the next room, seeing the trailer for the first time and screaming because he’s worried that the boys won’t be able to be saved and that this game will emotionally wreck him just like the first.

“I think that’s who Jodie’s Doctor is. You’ll find that it’s the Doctor you’ve known and loved but just with a fresh take. We need a pillar of hope in these times. And that pillar of hope is Jodie Whittaker!”

ChloNath - Close To You, by Aurora Lynne
This piece was inspired by the last chapter of ‘Tearing Through the Pages and the Ink’, by @iwroteinapastlife. I feel personally victimized by this story because I never thought I’d get this invested in the slowest kind of slow burn. I hold my breath everytime they do as much as look at each other. Thanks Sierra. And this scene. THIS SCENE. I’m still processing it, such a beautiful scene. So delicate and intense at the same time. I could cut the tension with a knife. So naturally I had to give it a try and draw it, because it affected me too much. I’m utterly and completely in love with this story and I cant wait to see what you’ll come up with in the future.
Hope you like it!

“Meanwhile Harry had started bringing out the Marauder’s map and examining it by wandlight. He was waiting for the moment when Ron’s labeled dot would reappear in the corridors of Hogwarts, proving that he had returned to the comfortable castle, protected by his status of pureblood. However, Ron did not appear on the map and after a while…”

Let me make the case to you for setting micro goals. Writing a book is a complicated process. Some days, 100 words are more than doable. Other days, it feels a gargantuan task. When I have days like the latter, what helps is telling myself I only have to write one sentence. It’s almost impossible not to talk myself into doing just that much. Usually, once I have that one sentence down, it’s enough to motivate me to keep going with the work.
Take this blog post, for example. I told myself I was only going to write a topic sentence. But a minute or so has gone by now, and I am still writing the post. I can’t keep this little sprint going for much longer, but it’s given me a solid start. That’s the power of micro goals.
When I’m working on a draft of a novel, I set a word count goal for 2,000 words per day. It’s been like this for as long as I can remember, maybe since college. But on days when writing feels impossible, like the last thing I would ever want to do, I lower my expectations.
On days when I’m struggling, I focus on a much lower word count target, say, 500 words, or 100. Once, I even set a target for like, 50 words (a Very Bad Day). Still, it counted as writing, because I was getting words down. Even if my word count goal was lower than I wanted, I still got something done. That is the power of micro goals.
So, the next time you’re struggling, lower the bar. Decrease the word count goal. This is not only good for morale, but also productivity. You’ll be surprised how much progress you’ll make.
As I write this, I am dictating it. I’m in the middle of a pretty bad arthritis flare-up, I have it in my hands, so it makes writing difficult. I wanted to get this blog post done, however, so I set a goal to just write the next sentence. Here we are now, at the conclusion of this post. It’s going to be a short one, but I hope it helps someone as much as it’s helped me to figure this out.
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
