I was looking at some photos of Charlie in TROP and I was thinking about how Halbrand and Annatar are so different physically, even though they are played by the same actor and the features remain there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With Halbrand, we have a more rustic, rough character. He is a Low Man, who has no home or land, who has nothing but himself. He needs to represent a humble but rough life, because of everything he had to go through.
And even when Halbrand is in Númenor and is considered king, his humble nature does not abandon him. These are traits that create a bond with the audience, that make viewers become attached to Halbrand.

Annatar is the complete opposite. Although kind and caring, his divinity seems cold and powerful, Annatar seems very distant. Far above everyone around him, even the Elves.
Its nature is lighter and more delicate, I believe that blond hair helps even more. Because light hair in Tolkien's universe is very common in the Valar, in pure beings and in the Elves.
Unlike Halbrand, Annatar has an ethereal, almost mystical aura. This provokes adoration, but a distance born of respect.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Sauron's true personality is exposed, Halbrand and Annatar suddenly look very similar. The dark, cruel, and evil traits are all there. The similarity comes from the removal of the mask.
It's no wonder he deceived so many in Middle-earth. Sauron's forms are very different, they affect in different ways. But when it comes to Halbrand and Annatar, who are played by Charlie, this contrast, but also similarity, becomes very visible. And I loved the choice of the same actor to play both.

god i really fucking love the dúnedain, particularly the rangers. just as like. a concept. a people. an actual part of the story.
they defend the shire, without the hobbits knowing, because they're doing what they can to keep it untouched by evil and the world at large. they sing and they love dancing and theyre all Tall. theyre almost all that is left of númenor. they do not seek payment for what they do--their cause is singular, and that is to fight against the very evil that brought their people to middle earth in the first place. they're often strange and they're certainly offputting to those who do not know them but in all we see of them, they clearly have close connections with one another. they can live for over a hundred years. they absolutely crash in rivendell half the time. their leader is playing a lead role in beren and luthien part 2.
god just. the rangers!!!

Gender and sex are not the same thing. Gender is what you identify as. Sex is what I’m having with Sauron in a few minutes.

There was definitely an agenda when they wrote/played the scenes between Thorin and Bilbo, because I swear to god the romantic tension is intense, complete with aborted confessions and swelling music. But the book? The book is not very shippable at all.
They really worked to put that romance in there.

The gay agenda is real, and Peter Jackson is behind it.
