The left figure is the guidance piece I used of Josay’s work to get the figures shape & style more accurate. As you can see, I changed the arm positioning to best represent the Fendi look. @barnsleycollegefashionrocks

annotation: For my final catwalk look, I chose look 31 of Fendi’s SS21 collection shown at Milan fashion week. With the look designed by head of house Serge Brunschwig, I chose illustrator Josay Larkowsky (@JosayHef) to interpret this style. I thought he’d be a good illustrator to choose as he has a very clean cut style & lots of detail but then that cartoon-like model style with little face details to let the garment do all the work. Just like Josay Larkowsky, I thought this look was very clean cut and would be perfect for his style. I worked from a piece of Josay’s posted on the 25th April 2020 , that I shall post after this, that was very simple showing the outline of a body so I can use that as a basis to then add the Fendi look ontop. First, I used grid method to draw the figures outline changing the positioning of the arm to recreate the Fendi model holding her bag, then I drew the Fendi garment on, I used watercolour for the sheer lilac dress then marker for the rest. First, I tried to use markers for the dress as Josay’s style looks quite digital and I thought markers could best interpret that ,however, no colour could correctly match the dress and just made it look harsh and messy instead of the sheer fabric that it is. So I decided to use watercolour to make the sheer fabric and the rest in marker to still get that ‘digital’ clean effect. I think this was a successful piece as I think I interpreted Josay’s style quite well using his signature styles like the portrait with the elongated, lone eyes and using the positioning of one of his already posted pieces & using markers to try and recreate the style of his media. However, I’d try to paint the undergarment more as in the picture it is shown quite visibly yet I only hinted to the bottom of it. @barnsleycollegefashionrocks

annotation: For my second catwalk look, I chose look 32 of Christian Siriano’s SS21 collection featured at New York fashion week. I decided the illustrator Anjelica Roselyn would be perfect to choose for this look as she’s amazing at fun interpretations without over complicating details; like the flowers. I used one of her posts, that I shall post separately after this one, posted on the 8th of January 2019 as a guide to creating this look with its similar shape & outlines. With Anjelica’s work as a basis, I used grid method to pencil draw the original look adding details to create Siriano’s garment such as the hair, mask, ruffled neck & making the garment fuller to fulfil the shape. Then, I used water colour for the garment & hair, white emulsion paint for the white flowers and then fine liner to finish the piece off and really create the Roselyn look. I think this is a really successful piece as it’s really caught Anjelica’s style with the fine liner and how I would imagine she’d interpret the flowers ,but, I have still adapted it to really reflect Siriano’s piece. For the white flowers, at first, I tried watercolour but it never showed up to jw wxtwnt it needed so I had to get a thicker paint, emulsion. If I could change this look, I would’ve tried to get a better look for the hair as I don’t think the colour matches all too well and I should’ve tried to do more research on Anjelica’s work to see where she has done this texture of hair and use that as a guide. @barnsleycollegefashionrocks @anjelicaroselyn

Here is the illustration example i used for my Simone Rocha catwalk look by @florisfelixvanvelsen-blog-blog, you can clearly see where i got my inspiration from with the 3D pastel shading and shape & size of the garment. Obviously, adapting this slightly to resemble Rocha’s look more. You can find this on instagram at @ florisfelixgirls @barnsleycollegefashionrocks

annotation: For my second catwalk look, I chose look 9 of Simone Rocha’s SS21 collection from London fashion week. I chose the illustrator Floris Felix (@florisfelixgirls) to interpret this look. I got my example piece from an Instagram post on the 10th of July 2020, which will be credited on a separate post, for the shape of the garment was similar to Simone Rocha’s. For this interpretation, i used grid method, pencil drew Floris’ outline, adapted it to be more like Simone Rocha's look, first went in with markers to create the iconic multicolored skin tone, then watercolor for the navy coat, white and black pastels to create definition, shading and a way to hint to Floris’ style and finally grey markers for the shirt-dress underneath with all of it’s detail on the hem. I think this is a successful piece as i believe it is a good interpretation of Floris Felix’s illustration style as i took a first hand copy of one of his drawings and slightly adapted it to o all of the proportions are correct and i used the same skin tones he uses.I also really like the shading, i think it brings the garment to life and clearly is Simone Rocha’s look. I personally wouldn’t change anything to this piece, i am really happy with it. @barnsleycollegefashionrocks @florisfelixvanvelsen-blog-blog

annotation: For my first catwalk look I chose look 37 of Kenzo‘s SS21 Collection featured at Paris fashion week. With the look created by Felipe Oliveira Baptista, I chose illustrator Ruben Baghdasaryan (@rubenstudio) to interpret this design. Ruben‘s style consists of (what I think is) water colour paint & oil pastels with simple strokes & no blending with many colours to create his illustrations, it gives a good sense of motion in the pieces. To create my version, I couldn’t find an exact piece that was similar so I had to Just freestyle the shape but I used his technique of applying paint to mine. First, I used grid method and pencil outlined the Kenzo‘s model, then I steadily built up the paint first with the red marks, dark red, light blue, dark blue then the faint red & blues for the sheer fabric falling off of the hat. Finally, I did a faint pastel outline around the model. I think this was a successful piece as I was able to catch the motion of the garment & fabric using Ruben‘s painting techniques. Also, I‘ve been able to learn more about how to paint fabrics , like the sheer fabric, and how to translate that into illustration form. However, i think I wasn’t as successful with catching similarity to Ruben‘s work as i didn’t have a clear picture to work from that was similar to my garment & I think the outline could’ve been harsher. @barnsleycollegefashionrocks @rubenstudio

annotation: This is my final illustration study of Anjelica Roselyn‘s work. I chose this 3/4 length illustration she did of 3 of Marni‘s models, posted on the 24th February 2019. I love the diversity in models showing the ways you can highlight this in illustration. I think it’s so important for people to have representation therefore it inspires me to always make sure I draw poc and learn of more ways to represent them. For this interpretation, I used the half and half method, once again with complications of my printers copies, it doesn’t match correctly. I used grid method, pencil outline , water colour, fine line & markers to greater this piece. I think it’s successful piece as i was able to create all the patterned shapes and understand composition of putting 3 models in one. However, the paint distorted the model on the rights face as it has left a patch and I also forgot to add a fine line outline onto the red spots which I shall add in now. @barnsleycollegefashionrocks @anjelicaroselyn

annotation: This is my second look at Anjelicas Roselyn‘s close up portraiture. Here she draws Yoon Young Bae (@mulan_bae) for Valentino, posted on the 23rd of January 2019. I instantly loved this portrait as it’s made up of such simple lines and colours yet is so distinctive, it teaches less is more. For this example, I decided to use the method half and half, however the picture I printed out is slightly smaller due to technical reasons, then the first copy I used. But as usual, I used the grid method on my first copy, pencil outline, watercolours, pens and pastels. At first to get the white pastel marks I tried pencil but it didn’t show up, so then I used pastels which showed up but wasn’t so vibrant. I think this is successful despite the sizing situation as I still managed to recreate the portrait nevertheless. I liked the fun use of mixed media. Yet, I need a better understanding of skin tones as I didnt manage to recreate it perfectly. However my printer does distort the original colour from online. But, still, mine is too yellow toned. @barnsleycollegefashionrocks @anjelicaroselyn

annotation: Here is my third piece on Anjelica Roselyn‘s work showing a 3/4 example. Posted on the 12th of January 2019 showing her interpretation of two Versace looks. Although I didn’t find the original looks I feel there was a lot of pattern within them. It’s so inspiring to see how Roselyn made this expressive piece with such messiness, yet, all the random shapes, lines and colours come together to create an obvious piece. This piece will effect my work as it shows that you don’t need to take every detail on board to create a perfectly representative look. To make this piece, I doubled up from my copy, used grid method, pencil outline, watercolour, marker pens & pastels. This was successful as it allowed me to experiment with mixed media and recreate Anjelicas piece. I loved this piece with how complex it was to have to break it up into sections to be able to do, almost like a puzzle. However, there are parts that were ineffective like the pen over watercolour as it didn’t show up - The yellow ontop of purple and red ontop of green. @barnsleycollegefashionrocks @anjelicaroselyn

annotation: This is my second piece from my Anjelica Roselyn work, here I show a full length illustration. This was posted on the 8th of January 2019 as her own illustration of Molly Goodards garments. I love this piece as it’s so simple with shapes, colours and lines but yet portrays the fabric, tulle, so perfectly. This will help my work in the future to be able to show different fabrics in different illustration styles. To create my interpretation, I doubled up my printed copy then used grid method to get the same shapes. I then used pencil for an outline, going over that with watercolour. Once dried I went over with fineliner. I think this is a successful piece as it is an exact copy and all the colours match, however, my pen wasn’t harsh enough as it looks faint so I shall go over it once more. @barnsleycollegefashionrocks @anjelicaroselyn

annotations: Here is my first hand direct copy of one of Anjelica Roselyn‘s illustrations. This was posted on 13th of June 2020 to her Instagram page where she showcases all of her work. I really love her style of illustration, it’s focused on loud colours and shapes with free hand fine lining. Anjelica is my favourite fashion illustrator and will have a big impact on my own personal style being able to experiment with portraiture. To make my copy, I used grid method to get the shape of the face with a faint pencil outline. I then used watercolours for the colour then white acrylic paint for the big flowers on the left & right. Once both had dried I loosely finelined around the shapes. I think this is a successful piece as I got the shapes similar and the freedom of the vibrancy of colours mixed with the the lines. However, I couldn’t manage to get the same skin tone as the original as my colours had more of an orange tone than red. Also, the paper started to almost „fray“ due to all the water & coats of paint leaving a mark next to the mouth. @barnsleycollegefashionrocks @anjelicaroselyn

annotation: My final media; watercolour. Here I used the reference on the left to create my interpretation. I will definitely use watercolour in my work as I find it’s a very easy and effective way to convey colour with ease as other media’s can create a rough texture , eg pencil, which can distort your idea. For this example I used grid method, a fine pencil sketch & then went over with the paint. I am pleased with how this turned out as it’s practically identical to the reference and I was able to create the colours very easily and effectively. @barnsleycollegefashionrocks
