Please return us to a world where Notp and squick are used for a ship you don’t like instead of just making up a load of bullshit about how immoral it is or w/e lol

btw you don't have to justify why you are selfshipping. i know some of us get flack for why we do this when we're told it's "cringe" or "pathetic" but you do not ever have to go into details on why. whether it's a trauma response, your orientation, whatever it may be, do not ever feel pressured to share that aspect of yourself. you are allowed to selfship no matter what, and if someone tries to come up to you and tell you why you shouldn't or make fun of you for doing so, block em. do what you want to do forever

"why is all the fic in my fandom so short"
maybe the fic writers are tired. maybe they prefer short fiction. maybe they have pets and kids and school or full-time jobs and can't devote 24/7 to writing fanfiction. maybe they write on their phones while commuting and shorter is easier to manage. maybe they write for zines, which by nature have limited word counts. maybe they write slowly. maybe their motivation comes in bursts and they churn out oneshots when that happens. maybe they can't find someone to brainstorm with so they never wrote the fic at all. maybe the last time they posted a longfic they didn't get any comments, or a reader only said "write more" and they gave up. maybe the fandom is toxic. maybe they saw a passive aggressive tumblr post at 5:26am.

there’s a big difference between “i’m sad because a character i was emotionally invested in was killed off” and “this character’s death served no purpose, was used for shock value, and is the product of bad writing and i’m upset about that”

If u want to write a story about a character that's just you but hotter with a dark twisted backstory and magical powers and a pet falcon or something, I think u should just go ahead and do that. Who's gonna stop you? The government?? Fuck the police.

I feel like it needs to be said in the community…you never outgrow all your f/o’s. You never have to outgrow them.
Even if you get a romantic partner in real life, you still always have your platonic f/o’s.
Even if you keep your romantic f/o’s, that okay, too. Why? Because they’re fictional characters. You’re not ‘cheating’ on your partner by still loving your f/o’s.
Even if you’re ‘getting older’. Who cares? If they bring you comfort, keep them. They help.
Your f/o’s will always be with you. You can still be with them, too.

Shoutout to selfshippers who feel left out, selfshippers who feel as if they aren't enough or aren't acknowledged. Selfshippers who feel as if people don't listen to them or brush off what they have to say. You are always going to be enough for your f/os. They notice when you feel alone and disregarded in certain situations, and they'll do their best to give you the attention you deserve. They'll make sure you feel included, because you deserve to be listened to and heard.

New fic!
Hi, everyone! I know I don't post on this account a lot, and haven't posted in a long time, but I do have a new work if people are interested! It's Assassin's Creed, and it's Haytham Kenway/Reader.
It's a bit of a departure for me, as this is the first pic I've ever posted where I don't have the story fully planned out in some way, much less written! So it should be interesting to see what happens with it.
Everything you need to know should be in the work tags or the summary or the author's note, but feel free to ask questions if something isn't answered and you want to know.
For those of you in the RDR2 fandom who are still waiting on other updates, know that I'm still working on them! But you know how it is, another idea takes you, and you just have to get that thing down and out.
Happy reading!

COMMENT ON OLD FICS, I BEG YOU!
I swear to god after like a week people will still be reading but nobody leaves comments anymore and I just want to make it absolutely clear that I would be excited and elated to get a comment on these fics one hundred years after I post them.
A FIC IS NEVER TOO OLD TO LEAVE A NICE COMMENT ON. GO FORTH AND COMMENT!

I think that more fanfiction should be written with the aim to tackle the original meaning of hanahaki. Because when the concept of hanahaki disease was originally created, it was intended to be a metaphor for suppressing one’s feelings.
Your feelings are this beautiful garden of flora inside of your chest. When you express how you feel honestly, you allow for it to grow freely. But when you hide how you feel out of fear of rejection, and try to make it smaller and smaller, the flowers become cramped inside of you, until you choke on your own feelings. Every flower you cough up is something you’ve felt, but refused to say.
The whole “dying” thing is intended to be more symbolic especially. You’re killing off bits and pieces of yourself and how you feel, because you’re afraid to express yourself.
It’s not really supposed to be, “The one I love doesn’t love me back, and I’m dying from it.” Rather, it’s more along the lines of, “Repressing your emotions is bad for you, and it’s better and healthier to express them freely, even when it’s scary.”
Which is to say that, one, the cure for the disease should be telling the person that you are in love with how you feel. How the other person feels about the person afflicted should have nothing to do with it, as the trope is meant to be about feeling your emotions unapologetically.
And that, two, it’s not an inherently romantic trope. Obviously, it has romantic applications, but it can be written for any situation where a character is hiding how they truly feel. This can include a refusal to address a specific trauma, a desire to indulge in something that they’re ashamed of, and even really practical things, like wanting to ask one’s boss for a higher position.
Although (as an aromantic person myself) I don’t agree with this conclusion about the trope, this application would also avoid people calling it arophobic. When the thing killing the character is a refusal to be honest with themselves, rather than an unrequited love, it’s on nobody’s hands but their own to save their life.
There are a ton of ways that this interpretation of the hanahaki disease could be applied in new and interesting ways in fanfiction, and I’d love to read what things people could come up with!

hello! i saw a post that some people apparently have used ai to "finish" wips that have been "left too long"... i don't think those people really care about blanket permission (tho i wouldn't call their output "transformative work") but it did come up on the post, so i thought maybe i should ask for clarification? because i personally understood that authors give permission under the assumption that a person would make a thing based on their thing, so i don't know if this should be a further disclaimer (like the goodreads thing) or if it should be taken for granted..
(not to mention that this isn't fic of a fic, its literally finishing someone's writing)
No, you should never do this. Author's put a lot into writing those works, using an A.I to finish them would never be the same as them finishing the fic. An A.I can only "add" from what it knows from scrubbing works that people do not consent to.
Do not use A.I to finish fics that authors abandoned or haven't finished. That is super disrespectful to them.
I understand wanting to see a fic finished and wanting to know the outcome but doing it with A.I would never fulfill that for you. It's merely guessing and adding from multiple different things/works that it's stolen from and might not even make sense. It doesn't know what direction the author was going in, it doesn't know the twists and turns the author was going to add, it doesn't know anything about the author.
An A.I generated fic is Completely Different from a fan-made art or fic based off your work. It's Completely Different than someone asking to finish your work themselves.
A.I is not a "cool way to finish unfinished fics" .
Please don't use A.I on fics just because you are curious about the ending.
It will never be the same as actual human writing. And it is super disrespectful to authors who put time and care into their work.
Sorry if this comes off annoyed, I just really don't like this whole A.I writing fanfic thing lol

Go read an old fic.
There's such recency bias in fandom. As an author you post something, get a few reactions, and then it goes off into the bin. As a reader you check the tags, see what's new, and move on. But a lot of old stuff is really good. It's just sitting there, gathering dust, waiting for someone to take a peek.
So go on. Treat yourself.
Read an old fic.
