❝ what exactly did you do? ❞
❝ guess i was a little bad at explaining myself there. it was a fun experience, but i’ll probably never want to do it again. kind of like riding one of the world’s fastest rollercoasters. ❞

She let out a heavy sigh, both eyes closing for a quick second before opening to look directly at Carol. “I messed up.” Jessica admitted. Suddenly her face contorted a bit to easily reflect the expression of someone who was about to cry. “I fucked up the entire mission, Carol.”
Carol gave a snort of laughter, pressing a square of gauze against the wound. “In the interest of maintaining our friendship, I’m going to choose not to comment on that. But yeah. You’d think.”

“Is this how you make your friends? Tell people their fears are real?”

“because we used to work together, though under some not so nice people.” jess took in a deep breath with a slight smile, trying to reassure him that her plan was not to hurt him. “i saw what had happened in d.c. and just wanted to find you before hydra did or someone else who might want to hurt you.”
he clenched his jaw and continued to stay on edge, his eyes never moving away from her. how could he trust anyone? he was not yet ready to accept a new path of recovery and to discover old memories of who he was. “surviving,” which is all he did, walking away from the mission and surviving each day. “why would you want to talk with me?”

“The mission was fine until the exit. I was surrounded which in most cases is fine but then I heard the voices. They said I was a monster and I killed innocent people and I just...lost it. AIM got the electrical relay back and I nearly didn’t make it out.” She reached over and snatched the cigarette. “That’s not happening at all.”
“Debrief. We have time and I might be able to help.”

“That’s the problem. I...didn’t finish the mission.”
“Hearing voices isn’t bad as long as you can finish your mission.”
