Sansa being married of her own volition and choice is SO different from Sansa being married by force. Sansa, in a marriage of her choosing, is girlish and free. She has her moments of insecurity because she wants to be the best wife that she can be. But she's free. She'll show herself. And Sansa in her freedom can be girlish and witty. She'll make quips. She smiles a lot. She makes him clothes constantly with her house sigil because he's family. She's eager to show that she's not cold or unfeeling. She feels all these things when they are EARNED and she shows them in kind. She's gracious and thoughtful. UGH SOMEONE LOVE MY BABY!

When his grey eyes fall upon her, she feels silly again. Stupid girl...with stupid dreams. It echoes in her mind but she is a girl no longer, she is a woman grown and she has seen so much. And yet, she knows so little. She knows nothing of a man or what he likes or how to make herself what he likes. But she puts that aside when he tells her that they would likely perish if they did not leave the past in the past. "Then how can I help you, my lord?" She asks him, perhaps when she was a girl and her life was not trampled upon by reality, she would have been afraid to get in the dirt with her hands. Now, she was not. She just feels out of her depth again but she will swallow it so she is more helpful than harmful. She does not want to cause him harm anyway. She wishes him no ill will. Why should she? He could have left her to die or killed her himself if he felt so inclined. She was not weak but she was certainly not as strong or as imposing as he was. Killing her would have been an easy task for him like the snap of a branch beneath his boot.

Sansa sucks in a breath when Uhtred says she is patronizing him, she has heard this before but when it comes from him--it cuts her inside. All sorts of things were said about Sansa Stark. That she was an ice queen, that she was frigid and cold and unfeeling. “I,” How does she even answer that statement? She does not want to make him feel patronized. He was so essential to everything in her life now. Annoying as she might be to him, she does not feel superior. She feels lost, she feels out of her depth. She is looking for guidance. She feels a constant failure to the memory of her parents and siblings, to everyone that saw her grow up from the moment she was born into the world. But more than that, she feels she fails Uhtred. “It was not my intention to make you feel as though I am superior. I am not. I never have been. It is a common misconception, perhaps my face being screwed up has something to do with it.”

Sansa scoffs at the implication that SHE is the reason that he cannot find peace, “Oh really? Well I want my whole family to come back to life and to go home and to be a proper lady again. But that seems an impossibility. The Gods have seen fit to give me this trial. I am here. Whether you want me to be or not!” She is angry but the underlying feeling is that she feels hurt. She is afraid to admit how she feels. She can never read him or figure him out. No one taught her what this was supposed to feel like, to be like or how she ought to act when it came to her. All she has known are men that let her down after her brothers and father are gone and outside of them–Uhtred is the only one that she feels is not like the rest. 

She paces away from him, hesitant to disappear but perhaps she should. Perhaps if she DOES disappear then he might find some peace. She is being childish but no one is rational all the time. She is learning that she cannot be poised all the time. With this trip, she has realized that she cannot always be a graceful lady. Perhaps, if he does not want her to be a graceful lady then she does not want to be either.
