the swordsman looked UNIMPRESSED at her inquiry, though it wasn’t mean-spirited—mostly, he was ashamed. he tended to be a quick fighter, but that didn’t make him fool-proof. his leg wound had been completely accidental, of course, and now he felt bad for inconveniencing the rest of the army.

or maybe he was just too embarrassed to admit that he’d been TOO confident last battle, moves flashy and smile wicked with each strike.

“fine,” kyo muttered stubbornly, hoping she wouldn’t notice the mild limp he was still cursed with. “not takin’ the advice, though, sorry.” childishly, he lifted his chin in mock pride, nose scrunched as it pointed towards the air. 

“I suppose that was to be expected.” She laughed a bit then, having anticipated nothing LESS from him. In the amount of time they had been together, Nadine was quickly able to grasp the reality that Kyo was some sort of thrill seeker. Her requests for him to remain mindful in battle would undoubtedly be in vain, though instinct still urged her to at least attempt it. 

“I’ll leave giving orders to the commanders, but I do hope you’ll reconsider. You’re quite valuable to us.”

“Good afternoon, Kyo.” 

The maid nodded in his direction, both hands curled around the handle of a pail of water she was to bring back to camp. She quickened her stride, falling into step with him in order to carry on a conversation. 

“How is that wound on your leg faring? It’s been a couple of days since I patched it up.” A gentle but playful smile tugged at the corners of upturned lips. “Have you given my advice about being more careful any heed?”

“It’s like this.”

The melody was simple and quite easy to recall. Humming it was nothing short of second nature. She welcomed the flood of BITTERSWEET memories that accompanied it, indulging in the few moments she had to reflect on the past. 

“Don’t pretend like you don’t remember it,” she lightly teased with a smile, taking a moment after a twirl to nudge his side. “I know you do.”

A soft smile upturned the corners of the cleric’s lips as she carefully sectioned Nah’s hair with feather-light touches. Nah was certainly more than capable of braiding it herself, but Eleanor saw something in the manakete that she often saw in herself: a GIRL that was made to grow up too FAST. Perhaps she would take some comfort in the simple, affectionate gesture.

by nature, nadine always tries to do what she is supposed to and follow rules. when she feels guilty, most times, it is because of something she failed to do rather than something she did. there hasn’t been anything for her to feel incredibly guilty for, but she does feel guilty if she makes a mistake or feels she hasn’t done her best.
