He needed to be more in control of his emotions, and so with a short sigh he attempted to calm himself of this massive amount of joy that was threatening to take up most of his thoughts. It was the first time he had ever seen the other side of this world, and now he needed to focus on the mission at hand. With a nod towards the other, he made to go forth into the darker depths of the forest.     “A full day is all the time I will need, and night as well will be the      greatest of ally to what we must do. We will find that artifact you so desire.” Goliath was finding it surprising that this might very well be the only time he’d be up a full twenty-four hours. It was somewhat exciting to find out how that felt… | @ofmagicae |
     “Not me, the king.”
The boy reminded him, as they finally pressed forward. Towards the shaded forest they went, where a canopy of treetops blocked out most of the sunlight Goliath had finally been granted the ability to experience. Once inside, the air turned cool; almost chilly.
“It isn’t a grand thing, but it’s well hidden so we’ll need to go deeper. With it,       the castle’s defenses will be that much stronger. Yet if our enemies were to       lay their hands on it...”
He left the rest to the gargoyle’s imagination, letting silence linger between them as they made their way through thick grey tree trunks. Mist gathered at their feet, making every step unsure, and the sounds of the forest seemed to echo in an unnatural clamor. The magus finally spoke up, if only to dissipate some of his unease.
“It’s odd for you to go off alone, isn’t it? The other’s are scouting, sure,       but you usually have the old captain at your side, or the woman...”

“Oh… right. I must have forgotten. The sleep does that to me, sometimes. Hm…” His eyes widened upon hearing what the other said, and once they had finally adjusted to the brightness of it all, he couldn’t believe it?! Wings spreading out slowly, as if he could bask in this warmth forever. It was so unlike the slight remaining waves from the heated day he had always read about, nor was it as grand as the starry nights. There was something more about the way there were no stars, save for one, and instead the clouds of darkened grey were bright white!?!     “This… this land is beautiful… Words that I cannot have to describe what I      am feeling, Magus… Magus…” Turns to him then, and you could tell the other was a little more than overjoyed for his eyes were glimmering so slightly at the edges.      “Thank you for this…” | @ofmagicae |
Pale eyes widened as he took in the full scope of Goliath’s reaction. Being thanked by a being you didn’t particularly approve of...well that was a bit awkward to say the least. His glare lightened up just a touch, but it was confusion rather than compassion that entered his expression.
“Er...you’re welcome...” He stammered, before pressing on, “It’s only temporary, but it should last one full cycle of day. Just be careful, and stay near me at all times. If you turn to stone before night falls, I’ll enact a protection spell around us.”
Folding his arms, the youth looked at the landscape around them. Harmless enough, but he knew of the dangers of the deep forest. He had never seen them of course, but he knew enough to be scared wary.
“Well, if you’re feeling alright, we should press on. We need to find that       artifact as soon as possible, and it’s apparently quite well guarded in       some way...”

The thunderous rumble from deep within the stone creature was heard first, then the lightning outside flashed as life was renewed to this being once again. Stone crumbled away as his roar was finally heard in the open air, and strong wings stretched as he noticed for the first time that there was a difference. Shields his eyes from the brightest of moonlight, which he could only describe this as, and a groan left his lips as that deep voice drawled his confusion.    “By the stars, what is all this? Where am I? How have n…–” His gaze was finally able to focus long enough to notice he wasn’t alone, and that a familiar face was near, his questioning of curiosity became accusation almost immediately.     “Just what have you done now, Magus? What sort of trick is all this?      Why is it so hard to see with my own eyes?! What have you done to me?” | @ofmagicae |
“What have I ever done to you,”
The boy responded with a roll of his eyes, his tone tinged with aggravation. He had always thought that these stone warriors were more trouble than they were worth, and far too dangerous to keep around the castle. Still, anger them and the consequences would be dire. At the very least, Goliath was the most reasonable of them all (which wasn’t saying all that much).
“Did you forget so quickly? I brought you on this mission to test a new       spell...which seems to have worked. It’s day, and...here you are. How       do you feel?”
Annoyance aside, the Magus was curious as to just how well this truly had worked out. It could prove useful to the future of their safety, if a small number of the gargoyles were able to defend the castle by day. Provided they could trust any number of them...

Inside the canvas tent, all was quiet. Outside he heard only the soft chirp of birds and rustle of wind through leaves. It was such a tempting silence, one he wanted to let linger just a while longer...and then his eyes traveled over to him. A statue right now, one whose grotesque form would take life only under the beams of the moon. The one called Goliath had flown with him into the faraway forests in order to help him carry out a dire task, but there was another purpose for his presence. A test.
     “Alright, let’s begin...”
The young mage murmured, drawing closer to the gargoyle. He was far from thrilled with the task, and Princess Katherine felt much the same. Yet if he could make this spell work, it could mean much for the future safety of the caste. Or so he hoped.
“Though sun may keep your form at bay,           I do implore the fates to sway,              to grant you tolerance to the light,                 that lasts until the fall of night.”
It was a simple spell, preceded by the gathering of a few herbs and other ingredients; crushed into a fine powder that now lay scattered around the dirt below them. But had it been enough? For now, he watched, and waited.

gcliiath:
The sun’s light was the last to show on the stone statue high above the lands, and it was when finally the light faded did the stone start to crack. With a burst of power, eyes aglow with a mighty roar on lips, the leader of his kind rose to find himself feeling sensations once more. Talons twitching, eyes adjusting to the dark, and he glanced about when something was amiss. He couldn’t find the rest of his kin, and there was a growing pit in his stomach as his mind leaped to conclusions.    “Where is everyone?” Am I truly alone, as I’ve always felt? Has it finally come to pass, after all these hundreds of years…? Are the young no longer, and the old faded? Worry clung at him, and he hopped off the perch after a while to continue his search. Where have they gone? | @ofmagicae |
For him, it was hardly a wait. Magic was a strange thing, after all. At times its results were elusive, impossible to grasp despite their apparent simplicity. Other times, the most difficult of results was achieved with ease. Somehow, he had achieved the latter; a bid to take Goliath out of harm’s way had transported them both far away in distance and in time.
“You...so it really worked. Are you alright? The others...       they should be nearby, but we may have to search.”
He didn’t waste his breath too much, considering the shock of it all would likely render his words useless on the gargoyle. Instead, he scanned the unfamiliar landscape with some unease. It looked nothing at all like the lands he knew, and here he was stuck here with one he just barely considered an ally.
