The ceremony was beautiful— As expected. Hal had been waiting for this day for years. But Alek had been waiting for this day for his entire life. The only thing more exciting than his own wedding day was his best friend’s. His brother had been the most important person in his life from the time they were toddlers. If Alek’s personality could be split into parts, it would be one part music, one part romance and one part Hal’s best friend. That’s just how it was; how it’d always been. Everyone in the family joked about it. How Alek would be the first one to cry at Hal’s wedding. They were right, of course. But in his defense, he wasn’t just watching his brother’s wedding. He was watching his best friend’s wedding as well. Two people he cared for more than life were vowing to spend their lives together. It was beautiful. It was perfect. It was better than he’d ever hoped.

By the time the ceremony ended, Alek was already stressing out about his speech. This was his moment. In every romance movie, there’s always the best friend who makes the funny yet emotional speech. But Alek didn’t exactly consider himself funny. He was a softie, a mush of emotions. He couldn’t joke about Gen or Hal because in his mind— They were perfect. This speech was something he’d been writing since he was eleven. Yet, even now, even ten minutes before the big moment, he found himself re-writing it in one of the dressing rooms. “My best friend– My brother. My… Hey guys. Did you know- Uhm. Sup dudes, does anyone– No.” He mumbled the intros under his breath up until he heard the door squeak. His eyes widened, hoping to god it wasn’t time. Thankfully, his prayers were answered when Hal walked in. “Dude! What are you doing in here? Where’s Gen?”

     with all the minutes there are in a day, hal firmly believes that it should be a lot easier to get five of them to himself. just five. he doesn’t feel like it’s asking for too much, but there’s always an espn reporter, or his coach, or his teammates, or his brothers. there’s always something that absolutely cannot wait for five minutes. just five. he doesn’t mind as much on his wedding day, perhaps because he wants to spend every single moment of it with gen. he hasn’t been able to take his eyes off of her since he saw her walking down the aisle, and everyone else in attendance ( so, basically, everyone they know ) seemed to be similarly captivated by her. genesis had designed a wedding where she was the star, and hal didn’t mind it one bit. as long as she was happy, and it looked like she was when he last saw her entertaining a huge group of their guests who were all complimenting her ( second ) dress and her makeup and her hair and the decorations.      hal tiptoed out of the reception hall without being noticed or flagged down by a single attendee. he swapped out his glass of champagne for whiskey ( not his first choice, but the open bar unsurprisingly didn’t have his favorite canadian imported beer ) and wandered around the castle until he found the room where hal and his groomsmen had gotten dressed for the ceremony. “dude,” hal brightened as he nudged open the door and saw his brother with a pen and paper in hand. “gen is...getting a ton of attention.” he was still smiling as he said it, glad that she was getting all of her recognition and compliments and gushing. “so i’m having a drink and chilling out for a few minutes.” hal let out a sigh as he flopped onto one of the chairs in the room and tugged at his tie to loosen it a bit ( but not so much that it wouldn’t be a quick fix when he needed to return to the reception and get photographed again ). “what’s up?” he wondered, glancing over at alek with a lifted brow. it was the first chance he had gotten to have an actual conversation with his best man all day.

flashback to december, 2013. —— @ofhal​

brunette hair tied up into the messiest bun one could imagine, mila’s fingers tapped away at the keyboard of her laptop, eyes trained on the way to bright screen. she had to get this essay done ; it was vital to her final grade for the semester. a quiet yawn passed parted lips, pearly whites now coming out to gnaw on the supple flesh. “okay so… what if i end the paragraph by saying that the handmaid’s tale was really just about how women were and are segregated in a society that is predominately male-dominated ? do you think that’s just the safe way out or ..?” she questioned softly, head tilting to the side.

     hal could be doing his homework, too. he could be, but he wasn’t. “uh...je n'ai aucune idée de ce que tu viens de dire.” not because she said it in english. mila is the only person he speaks french with, except for the unique blend of québécois and english that he uses around his family. “it’s like, three in the morning,” he informed her with a yawn immediately after she had released one. contagious. “what time do you have practice tomorrow?” hal hummed as he reached for a piece of hair hanging out of haphazardly built bun and began twirling it around his finger.

ofcgenesis‌: 

        six. somehow, genesis narrowed down six very different wedding gowns will to just three.  the first, had to be the grandest of them all. one for the ceremony, one for the reception, and one for after. that seemed like the most sensible option. she spent the last few minutes, primping the heavy skirt to make sure it’s in the proper place. there was so much to juggle. in the mist of doing her own makeup, she’s being bombarded with questions about the reception decor. questions about the wedding cake that ran thirty minutes late. all the while, she had to sit still as her hair stylist curls her hair. the biggest consequence to being quite a perfectionist. no wedding planner just to make sure this all went perfect.         but, it was perfect. better than perfect. the day she’d been dreaming of times a thousand.  grander than that. you simply can’t find a spot in the wedding that isn’t pink. but, all the pink, the roses, and the diamonds dangling from the chandeliers hardly top that she is really getting married. and who she is marrying. he always says she’d been planning this since she met him. being only kind of an exaggeration, being here.. right now is surreal.        genesis hardly ever feels nervous. but, at the moment , her chest felt tight. fluttering at the pit of her stomach. the veil trails nearly 3 feet behind her, along with the train of her dress. all of the sound – music, chatter of the crowd and awes over her dress cease to exist. suddenly, all she can focus on is him. “baby,” she coos, giggling at the look on his face. “hi to you too.” she reaches for his hand, giving it a small squeeze. the other hand reaches for his cheek. “and you look very handsome. a fresh hair cut and shave. look at you,”  she had to remind herself she isn’t supposed to kiss him quite yet. 

     she’s the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. he doesn’t need to say it out loud in order for anyone who can see how he’s looking at her to know that it’s exactly what he’s thinking. hal is mesmerized. he knows that all of their wedding guests are watching them, and he hears a sound that could be alek muffling sniffles, but he doesn’t turn around to look at his best man. hal can’t take his eyes off of the bride. she’s all he sees, and her voice is all he hears, and her hands are all he feels. everything else is just a blur. sights and sounds that fall so far into the background that he no longer notices them.      even the officiator’s voice is just a murmur to him, buzzing around in the back of his head until he’s being instructed to go ahead and begin his vows. one of hal’s little brothers scurries over with a set of rings resting on a small silk pillow. he clears his throat and collects the thinner, shinier silver band. “i’m going to love you forever.” hal lifted his gaze as he said it, finding hers with a soft smile. “you’re the most important person to me in the whole world. i promise to always protect you, and to be there for you whenever you need me even if i’m all the way across the country. you have me, all of me, for the rest of our lives and you’ll still have me after that.”      he wrote and rewrote them dozens of times, but when the time came, hal chose to say the same things that he always does rather than reciting grand declarations that wouldn’t have sounded like him. hal wouldn’t use big words and a long speech to tell gen that he loves her, and that he vows to be by her side forever. he would just tell her. with unmistakable sincerity in his gaze, and his hand holding hers. “i love you.” he was beaming as he slid the ring onto her finger, and admired the sight of it resting there until he lifted her hand and pressed a kiss to her knuckles.

His mind compartmentalizes impressions, and he appreciates structure and order. The mind learns best when it can see practical uses for information. Resourceful, reflective, deep thinker; a fine and vivacious mind. May undertake lengthy studies or, if circumstances do not allow, will teach himself. A rational person. Can be pessimistic, skeptical, and sarcastic, possessing a very sharp sense of humor. Notices everything.
