Please, reblog! IIt’s called self defense. Apart from having here, in the US, one of the highest cases of homicide and rape in the world and high rate of GBV, think about how this could help your mother or sister

TW: rape, torture, murder, blood
I don’t have many followers and not many people will see this or interact with this, but I feel like I should say it…
Two years ago, a girl called Eleni Topaloudis was found dead in the waters of the island of Rhodes, Greece. She was found by fishermen that stated that it was pure luck that her body never left the bay, because otherwise she would be forever lost… Because of the way her body was found, they realised that she was alive when she was dumped in the waters, and she drowned while bound by heavy cloths to restrict her movements and bleeding.
The murderes where identified and sued, but the final sentece was handed out just today, on the 15th of May, 2020. Her murderers were Manolis Koukouras and Alexandros Loutsai, 23 and 21 year old respectively. They lied, tried to buy their way out of the blame (Koukouras’s family has quite a lot of money and social standing) and never owned up to what they did, we even saw the one accusing the other of having all the blame.
What did they do?
Well, they have been accused of raping girls before, Loutsai is to go on court in June for raping a disabled woman. But what they did to Eleni was despicable. They lured her with the promise of an outing and later when the fast food place was closed they eventually went to Koukouras’s family summer house. Eleni’s messages reavealed that she had texted her friend: “Call me in 1 hour!”…
!!!!!!!TRIGGER WARNING HERE!!!!!!!
When they reached that place (Koukouras’s grandmother was there, on another floor), they started raping her. She put up a fight and they started stabbing her with knives and beating her head with an iron bar. She still persisted, despite the beatings, the blood, the horrible pain, she still put up a fight, screamed and tried to get away. Later, when she was in a semi-comatose state, whispering “Wait till my father gets his hands on you”, they tied her up, drove her to a far away bay, full of rocks, and dumped her in the sea. She was still alive then. She was begging them to take her to a hospital, and those bastards didn’t even give her that. When they were done, they went back to Koukouras’s place, cleaned up all the blood (it even reached the ceiling) and went to their homes to sleep.
In court, they didn’t admit to the blame. “I’m not sorry, because I did nothing wrong!”, they said. They both said that they were petrified as the other defiled the girl. They both claimed ignorance, they both laughed in the breaks of the court. Koukouras has a photo of him while in handcuffs where he flips off the cameras outside of the court place.
They both have pictures of them smiling as they enter/exit the building.
Koukouras’s father and grandmother and Loutsai’s sister are now accused of purjury. They hid their crimes, lied about the relationship those two had with Eleni, and even bribed people to cover up the truth or paint Koukouras in a brighter light.
Koukouras’s lawyer, and this is where it gets truly infuriating, it turns your stomach, claimed on his statement that he didn’t see a rape case anywhere… “Eleni’s bra was still on, so what is this nonsense? This is not rape, my client only caressed her! And well done to Manolis for that, you should caress women Manolis, always!”
Yes, he said that. He also pressed to have no women as juries in the court case.
They both got around 15 years and a life sentence (which is bullshit, there isn’t ACTUAL sentence to serve for life in Greece right now, it’s maximum 25 years, and it’s not unheard of to come out after 8 years).
At the beginning, people shamed Eleni. They called her a slut, a whore, a girl that wanted to have a threesome and what did she expect? They said “good riddance” and that the world was rid of one whore more. Because Loutsai was Albanian by birth, they called her nasty names about wanting to sleep with “foreign scum” that I have no knowledge of how to translate. Even today, trolls still sully her memory, people still think that this was a simple case.
But there are people that are now pressing to have changes, both in the law system and in how we raise our kids. So that no parents can go through what Eleni’s parents will go through for the rest of their lives. They raised a wonderful child and the police returned it to them in a bag. They didn’t get to kiss her goodbye or hug her one more time. And I’ll remind you that her murderers joked around in front of them, never admitted to the blame, lied in front of everyone and, right to the moment where I’m writing this sentence, they show no signs of remorse.
It’s sad that Eleni’s death was the one that pushed people to think more about women’s rights. It’s sad that she had to suffer so much and die in such a horrific way only for things to go back to normal when everything quiet’s down.
So even if noone sees or reads this, I’m writing this for myself, because this is my way of never forgetting this girl. As a last farewell to this young woman who was so brutally robbed of her entire life, I’ll leave something her prosecutor said about this case:
LET JUCTICE PREVAIL EVEN IF THE WORLD BURNS
Farewell my dear. I don’t believe in heaven, but if I’m wrong, I hope you’re there right now and that you get to experience all the joys you were denied in life…
