“What do you think this is a Hallmark movie?” Mara asked with annoyance. Rolling her eyes when he called himself a handsome firefighter, went on about why he wasn’t out there with the rest. “While thank you for the explanation that wasn’t asked for or needed, I’m actually here just returning Cooper’s things.” Informing him, before she handed over the mans belt, shirt, and shoes. “I’m trying to avoid him coming back over to collect them so if you could be a dear and pass them along to him, please.”

Bennett was about to reply when he decided against it. Of course she had Cooper's stuff, why wasn't he surprised anymore. He didn't know the man well enough to judge, but most people learned to take their stuff with them when they left. "Sorry didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable Ma’am,” Bennett added, “Of course I can return these to Cooper when he gets back from the call. Should I tell him who left them or does he already know?”

“First of all, bold of you to assume the purpose of my visit, and my thoughts on your level of hotness.” Max had take a moment to compose himself after such a weird disclaimer. To be honest, he almost burst out laughing. “Secondly, do people really come to the Fire House to hit on firemen regularly?” Max would hate to imagine that the need for such disclaimers were a frequent occurrence. “That’s just weird as hell, man.” Humans honestly did the strangest things, and then they have the audacity to fear the supernatural? Hilarious.  It should really be their own kind that they should be weary of. “I feel like I should apologize, and this isn’t even my fault.”

"Sorry sometimes I just assume that's why people actually come here these days for, not for anything other then that. Unless they are looking for their spouse or something," Bennett argued. "You wouldn’t think it would be a thing but apparently it is, not all the time but sometimes.” he never understood it but he had seen a lot of young women in there early twenties keep coming by the firehouse looking specifically for a firefighter but he never knew who they were talking about. He wasn’t really good with names. “No need to apologize, just having an oddly weird day you know. Good things it’s about over.”

**“You know, I thought that if I didn’t have a shit shift than I would be missing out when everyone else had one. I didn’t want to feel so left out,” he murmured as he rubbed at his jaw which housed a slight exhausted tick. Though the idea of others setting fire to things over food wasn’t as far fetched as he considered what he had to get through to get to a decent cup of coffee. And he still hadn’t found one yet. “Regretted that decision immediately.” **Though as bad as shit was, it could have been a lot worse and he knew it
— even if he didn’t so much as put it to words. There wasn’t really many that could fully understand so he was fine to be visibly miserable enough that no one would question it stemmed from anything other than his job. “I take it that you fit in with this crowd with having a shit kind of day too or else you’re two seconds away from being too upbeat for me to handle.”

Bennett listened as the other spoke and he could totally understand where Alex was coming from. Sometimes it was much easier to want to work a shift then to not want to work one. He didn't pick up many himself not since he transferred but he knew that if there was an extra one that couldn't be filled he'd pick one up. “Don’t we all regret when we decide to pick up a shift we probably shouldn’t have,” the phoenix nodded, “I would not be here if my shift was a good one, they aren’t all bad but most of them are kind of crappy you know. You just don’t always get to have the best of days, when you’re career literal involves you running into burning buildings.”

“Flattery is natural to me. So can’t stop, won’t stop,” Alden joked. “Deal, it’s the least I can do since they’ve got you doing grunt work. I’ve definitely been there. It’s not fun in the slightest to be on top one day and right back at the bottom the next. Do you think it’ll take you another five years to get back? Or do you think they’ll give you a chance to prove yourself and what you can do before that?” He knew it was a hard question to answer, but he’d been in a situation like that. Though in his case, he didn’t remember when he was climbing the ladder only to end up right back at the bottom. He just heard stories of how far he’d come before what he called an accident. It was how he explained his miraculous recovery nine years ago as a work accident and amnesia to those who didn’t know what he was.

"Well then by all means continue," Bennett let a chuckle escape his lips. God he didn't want to think about if he had to work five years like this just to get back on top. It was hard enough to get here, working from the ground up was always a pain in the ass. “I don’t even want to think about that man. If I have to do this grunt work for the next five years I might as well transfer back to my old firehouse.” he admitted. The thought of ever having to start again scared him, he had worked all his life to be a firefighter, to save people and if he didn’t get back to being out there, then he wasn’t sure he was in the right job anymore.

**“Probably the same person that does it ever single morning if I don’t stand my ground and says what’s mine is mine and what’s yours is yours.” There were far too many that didn’t follow that rule, considering how little he actually managed to make it through a long shift without someone stepping over those bound and eating his food. Or taking something off his desk. It was like clockwork that they all cam tumbling over each other as if it was a free for all if he didn’t try to stab those that got too close to his food. “It’s a warning, that’s all. You’d be surprised by the amount of people that need one and especially this time of night
— where they think that everything belongs to everyone.”**
Tumblr media

"You make a fair point there man," Bennett shrugged his shoulders and nodded, people were complicated, and he never meant to sound rude or anything, but he knew that some shifts were just absolute hell. The careers that some of them chose for life, was probably not the best but someone had to do it right. “Of course trust me I’ve seen people literally set things on fire over food, it’s kind of ironic if you think about it.” Bennett added “Guessing you had a shitty shift like everyone else around here?

“Damn it. And here I thought I’d come by see the sights,” he joked. “My timing has never been good. Are you at least done in your cleaning endeavor, I was coming by to see if you wanted to grab a drink.” He looked around the fire house, not sure if Bennett was finished yet, but if he wasn’t to make the time go by faster, he’d at least offer to help. “You need some help or are you almost done?” Alden definitely understood having to start from the bottom. He’d done it, but of course he’d had to do it under the guise of amnesia after an accident and he had had no recollections of the past accomplishments.

"You gotta stop flattering me Detective," Bennett laughed, taking one of the sponges he had in his hand and placing it back in the bucket. Being new was still hard because he knew he had skills but the guys here still didn’t know him yet. “Yeah I’m done, I’ll go for drinks as long as you’re paying,” he flirted back, turning on his heels and placing the bucket in the storage room. “I really hate that I have to be the probie all over again, I’ve literally worked the last five years of my life at one house just to come to this one and start all over.”

“Damn, and here I was hoping for some eye candy to brighten up my lunch break.” Morgan replied with a devilish grin, sipping what had to be her fifth cup of coffee that day, yet the woman had yet hit that caffeine buzz she so sorely needed today.  It had been a particularly long night, especially with the recent tensions that had plagued the city and her constant researching of her sister she was desperate for distraction. “So you got to play maid because you’re finishing? No overtime in.case of emergency?”  she smirked.

Bennett could feel his cheeks turn red, he hadn't had anyone say or hit on him in a long time. He had his fair share of relationships after Gracie but nothing ever stuck. He had just spent his entire life devoting to working on fires. “Well you see, I’m the probie because I’m new, they usually make them do all the cleaning and stuff.” he added. “But I’m just about finished, and I think a pretty lady like yourself deserves a proper cup of coffee.”

âťť SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO DIE A LITTLE INSIDE, IN ORDER TO BE REBORN AND RISE AGAIN AS A STRONGER & WISER VERSION OF YOURSELF. âťž

SUPERNATURAL INFO
SPECIES: Phoenix
BIOGRAPHY
Trigger Warnings: Death
Martina and Jose Torres were the picture perfect couple. They were happy, loving and full of life. Everyone could see that from the minute they met them. But not everyone knew everything about the two perfect parents. Martina was an orphan from the time she was six years old, she was raised in an orphanage in Colombia until she was eighteen. When the vibrant girl turned eighteen she had nowhere to go but she dreamed of a better life for herself. She got a visa and moved to the states at eighteen, to go to school and study to become a doctor. All she ever wanted in life was to be a doctor, and have a family of her own.
Years went by and Martina had excelled in school, it wasn’t until her first year as a med student that she met Jose Torres. He was a beautiful and intellectual man, gorgeous jet black hair and wonderful brown eyes. Martina was taking by him the minute she met him. He was quite a few years old, and by few he was like ten. But the women didn’t care about that, she didn’t care if he was that, she wanted to explore all the things that she dreamed of with this man.
It was long before Martina and Jose became the couple that everyone saw. Jose was a good man, he was one of the top doctors in Boston, and Martina was making her way up the ladder as a doctor. Years went by and the two got married, but neither of them knew much about their past lives; the only thing that each of them knew was that they loved each other.
On valentine’s day 1993, Bennett Carlos Torres was born. It was a day that Martina will never forget because she had dreamed all her life of having a child and it was a real struggle to have one. Her and her husband had spent years trying to have baby and finally he had arrived. He was the center of their universe and nothing else in the world had mattered.
Bennett was a vibraint and loving child, smart, and beautiful, looking much like his father as he grew older. But his heart was much like his mother’s; he always wanted to help people. He didn’t know much about the world because his mother had always kept him so closed off from it. When the boy was thirteen, his parents made him move to New York, the year before he was supposed to start high school. Both his parents had gotten better job offers at Mount Sania hospital and couldn’t turn it down.
To say Bennett was angry, would be valid, because he was, but he knew that moving to another city, or state would be an opportunity of a life time. He moved into a nice little house with his parents, and everything was perfect. Time went by and he met his best friend Rosemary who made him feel at home the minute he stepped foot in New York.
The two of them were pretty much inseperable, always hanging out and it was nice to have a friend that just made you feel loved. Bennett’s parents spent so much time at work, that he never really saw them. As he grew older, he started exploring things, trying to figure out what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. He had always been aware of the world around him, but he never really knew exactly where he fit into that puzzle.
His parents never explained anything about his past, he spent most of his life believing that he was just a boring old human, that was until the day he tried to save his high school sweetheart and her entire family. It started out like any other night, but Bennett was awoken to the sounds of a fire alarm going off, he hadn’t realized he had fallen asleep there after spending the entire day with his girlfriend Gracie. The boy, who was tall and lanky at sixteen years old wasn’t aware of how the fire even started, all he knew was that the room he was in was up in flames.
Bennett panicked because he didn’t know what was going on, everything was fine, everything seemed fine hours before, but he realized that the flames were spreading and his girlfriend was no where to be found, and neither was his phone. He rushed out of the room, running right through the fire not even realizing that he could do that, he was filled was so much energy to get Gracie and her family out of their. Gracie was still no where to be found, so Bennett moved throughout the house waking up her parents, who were asleep in the bedroom next to hers. The fire was spreading faster then he thought it would, but the parents managed to get out, taking their youngest son, who was only two out with them.
But Bennett stayed behind much to their dismay, because he needed to find Gracie, he needed to save her. He knew if she wasn’t in the room that she was probably either gone to find her little sister or in the bathroom. But the smoke was getting back, and the house was nearly completely engulfed in flames before the fire fighters arrived, but the fire didn’t bug Bennett. He managed to escape the house, with Gracie’s younger sister, but he couldn’t find her, the firemen insisted that he leave, so he did.
When he emerged from the house, and got checked out, the firemen were in aware that he wasn’t severely burned. It was almost as if he hadn’t literally walked through fire, and that’s when everything in his life changed. He lost Gracie, turns out that she never made it out of the bathroom and he had abandoned her. Bennett, heart was broken, but Rosemary always helped. It was finally then that he did his research and asked his parents what they really were. He didn’t understand how he didn’t die that night, because he should have and he didn’t. His parents had explained that what happened to Gracie was a tragic accident but also that he was a Phoenix.
He never understood why his parents didn’t tell him and he spent all his life trying to understand who he was, but he understood it a lot more. He blamed himself because he figured he may have been the one to accidentally set the house on fire, but he would never truly know.
Being a Phoenix was weird and confusing and he understood why his parents didn’t tell him, it was because they were afraid. Was he a monster, maybe? He didn’t want to believe that at all. He knew about the supernatural world long before he even knew he was a phoenix but now it made so much more sense to him, why fire never scared him. Why whenever he got burned it never hurt.
After losing Gracie, Bennett had vowed that he would do everything he could to save people. Much like his parents he decided against medical school and instead decided to become a fire fighter. What those men did that night amazed him, even if he couldn’t save her, at least he could try and save someone else. He literally could walk through fire, without the equipment and he wouldn’t get burned. The academy accepted him when he was 21 and before Bennett knew it he was graduating and decided to join the NYFD. He’s just living his good life with his roommates and trying his best to not set things on fire, instead he’s trying to save people from them.

Who: @darkesthourstarters
When: Mid day
Where: New York Fire House in Brooklyn
Tumblr media
"If you came here to look for hot fire fighters, I hate to be the barer of bad news, but most of them left about half hour ago on a call and won't be back for some time.” Bennett admitted looking at the person who was standing in front of him. “And before you ask why I myself a handsome firefighter didn’t go with them, it’s because my shift is over in like ten minutes and I'm responsible for cleaning up the house.” he hated that he didn’t get to go on this call, but he was still a bit new to this firehouse so he was still trying to make his way up the ladder. The last place he was at he was at the top, mostly anyways, he had spent the last six years at a different firehouse in Brooklyn but had gotten transferred to this one to due to them losing a member and being the new guy was never fun.

“If you’re going to stop and stare, you might as well sit down too.” Whether they meant to stop by his seat or not, Alex wasn’t in the mood to have the feeling of anyone breathing down his neck. Or watching him dig into the first meal in over twenty four hours. It wasn’t going to be pretty, not when coffee had been the only thing in his stomach up until this point and it hadn’t been quiet either by the time that he walked out of the precinct. “Though I can’t promise that I won’t bite if you try to get between me and my food,” he added with a bit of a rough chuckle.

"Wow, who peed in your cornflakes this morning dude," Bennett groaned sitting down at one of the booths next to the older male. It had been a long twenty four hour shift and all he wanted to do was go home and sleep for the next two days. But somehow he found himself here at the diner hungry. “You know I’ve seen enough in my career and life to never come between a person and their food.” the phoenix added flipping open a menu.

Oliver rubbed a hand over his face as his gaze danced around the room, taking in the various faces in his presence - you could never be too careful in being aware of your surroundings, knowing who might be watching. He grinned widely at the barista as he made his way to the front counter, ordering a caramel mocha. “thanks for that - I certainly need the caffeine hit today.” he admitted with a laugh as he turned and found a booth to sit in. He didn’t often wait in for his coffee, often moving a hundred miles an hour and having places to be and see but today he was relaxed, his timeline was less chaotic. Using his index finger and thumb he swirled the gold ring that had found a home on his finger, a soft hum escaping his lips. “I’m not surprised their packed - this place has an incredible menu and a hospitable atmosphere - i’m addicted.” He admitted with a chuckle. “Do you come here often or just passing through?”

Bennett had always made it his duty to at least grab the guys at the firehouse coffee before he headed into shift. Most of the time at the firehouse, the coffee machine was either broken or just had really bad coffee. So of course, he had always found himself at the Daily Drip. It wasn’t fair from the firehouse and it was something he had gotten so used to doing; but today was not one of those days where he wanted it to be packed. He was dressed in his uniform, his long sleeve shift flashing the NYFD logo, and a pair of black slacks. He watched the other man for a minute and nodded, “I usually come here every morning before my shift to grab the guys coffee but apparently today is one of those busy days.” Bennett stated shifting to stand in line. “How about you?”
