quick question: is the flower they use for weiss in promotional material and merch white lily or is it something else?
i know ruby and blake have their namesakes, rose and belladonna aka deadly nightshade (at least i'm pretty sure it's that for blake, but i could be wrong), yang has chrysanthemum, and jnr has yellow crocus, alpenrose, and lotus, respectively, but i can't seem to find any confirmation anywhere â on merch descriptions or otherwise â what the flower for weiss is exactly.

Volume 1: A bunch of teenagers go to trade school, learn the benefits of friendship and actually taking the prerequisite courses.
Volume 2: A bunch of teenagers go on an unsupervised and a supervised field trip. Surprisingly, the supervised one goes worse.
Volume 3: Intercollege tournament goes badly wrong when a series of injuries leads to an exchange student finding another college's equipment in the basement, an infestation, equipment malfunctions and unwanted guests. The college closes as a result.
Volume 4: Worst Roadtrip Ever, featuring manmade natural disasters, that one guy who knows you but you don't know them, that horse that traumatized your friends when they were kids, your drunk uncle passing out and you having to carry him to the hospital, and half the group starting the trip later and promising to catch up.
Volume 5: Everyone's waiting for school to start, but before it can, the worst parent-teacher conference of all time happens.
Volume 6: Worst Roadtrip Ever 2, featuring a small town so empty it's depressing, bumping into your ex's mom, adopting a grandmother, breaking your ex's heart with your gf, and just the worst airport security lady of all time.
Volume 7: The students finally graduate and enter the working world, but it turns out their boss is a control freak with terrible ideas, so after a season of trying to make him see reason, the students are fired. However, they take the IT girl with them, who the boss needs to get his project off the ground.
Volume 8: With the help of the IT girl, our heroes restore internet access for about five minutes. With the help of an exchange student and her father figure, our heroes manage to get the youngest of them away from his ex. One of our heroes suspects her mom might be a furry. Unable to access medical help, our heroes seek a cure from a naked man. Due to a walkway's lack of railings, half our heroes take a tumble. Newly sober uncle makes friends with a socialist lesbian in a holding cell.

Korra and Asami only held hands because Nickelodeon wouldnât let them do more. Nick infamously cancelled Korra and put out the rest of season 4 as a webseries only.
Marceline and Princess Bubblegum only kiss in the very final episode because Cartoon Network wouldnât let them do more. There are a ton of interviews with Pendelton and with the voice actresses where they talk about the CN censorship.
Steven Universe got as far as it did because Rebecca Sugar fought tooth and nail, and risked the show getting cancelled (which it did in many countries, if not heavily censored), because Cartoon Network wouldnât let her. Ruby was often dubbed over with a male voice, and Pearl/Rose interactions were completely cut.
She-Ra managed to do it largely because it was specifically on Netflix only, and even then, Noelle has said they had to build 4 seasons of storyline very subtly around it so they had enough ammo to convince the execs that Catradora was the only logical conclusion to this show they had already aired. She didnât just go in on Day 1 and make it gay; she had to plan many years in advance for how to set up her argument. Her argument, yâall.
And now we have The Owl House. Which is an absolutely wonderful show. And itâs so amazing that we actually get to see queer characters get the kind of representation that so many straight characters get. And itâs amazing we get to see the romance build up, instead of just a quick peck in the series finale!
Letâs not forget that in the US, it was illegal for gay people to get married until 2015. Korra aired in 2012. In Texas, it was a punishable felony to even be gay until the mid-90s. No, literally. Just being gay was an arrestable offense here in Texas until 1993. We have come a really long way in 20 years!
But donât fucking dare disrespect any of these other shows by saying they didnât try, or that their representation didnât matter. Â The Owl House is standing on the shoulders of giants. Â Lumity is only where it is because Korrasami and Bubbline helped get them there.

Okay Iâll bite. What was the cause of that last post?
Anonymous also asked: âIâm asking. This is your invitation to go off about tragedies and narratives disagreeing with their own events (Iâm actually super curious. I kind see where youâre coming from, but I donât 100% get it)â
A popular argument Iâve recently seen passed around among people dissatisfied with Pennyâs death is that it contradicted Volume 8â˛s themes.
Yep. For sure. That was the point.
The moral argument (one of the themes) of Hamlet is that power corrupts, and revenge is equally corrosive. Is there a version of events where these themes where fulfilled by having Hamlet defeat his uncle, ascend to the throne, and lay his fatherâs soul to rest? Certainly. But the tragedy of Hamlet is that these themes were reaffirmed by showing that that didnât happen. There is catharsis in everything falling apart when we all wish it wouldnât, because tragedy is a better way to prove this point than heroic resolution.
Now, Iâm not going to compare RWBY to Hamlet. Instead, Iâll do the same analysis with Volume 8, because theyâre both tragedies (stories in which the main characters donât attain their goals).
One of the themes of Volume 8 is that risks must be taken and sacrifices must be made when the stakes are this high. (Think about Ironwoodâs motivations, Mayâs ultimatum with Team RWBY, the title of 8x11, Hazelâs choice, Cinderâs bargain, etc etc etc). Is there a version of events where these themes were fulfilled by having Penny only risk her life to defeat Cinder, somehow also saving Winter and taking back the Relics and doing whatever else you think would constitute a victory in this situation? Sure. But the tragedy of Volume 8 is that these themes were reaffirmed -- strongly! -- when that didnât happen. The heroesâ marginal victory of preventing Cinder from obtaining the Winter Maidenâs powers is perfectly aligned with the theme of risk/sacrifice, but itâs a tragic end because they lost anyways. Sacrifices must be made when the stakes are this high, yet sacrifice wasnât enough.
Pennyâs death is a tragedy because it is in line with the narrativeâs argument, but they still lost. It proposes an antithesis to these themes, challenging them, and setting up an interesting exploration of them in future Volumes (because this isnât where the story ends, and I think some of you need to be reminded of that.)
In conclusion, stories are about exploring themes, so if an event midway through the story proposes a contradiction, but is still about that same theme, itâs unfair to claim that the story should have made a different argument in the first place. Rather, take my genuine sympathies that it was your favorite character that best told this story.
