Genuinely I think one of the best things you can do to build characters in your story is give them a kink. You do not have to put that kink in the story. You do not have to tell anyone but yourself. But thinking about their wants and needs and what would bring them comfort or desire, about whether they crave power or crave a situation where they're blessedly free from any power, about which taboo they might kind of want to cross, is really useful for getting inside their head. Also "what situation would make my character stupid horny enough to make a terrible mistake?" is a good plotting device. "It's a plot hole that they made that dumb decision" no they were just whistling like a lustful kettle and forgot to turn their brain on.

Her rainbow colours are super rare, so she likes to show them off. Pinkie is a miniature pony, dinky little thing. 90% of her jewellery is edible.

Listened to a creepypasta that took place here in Northern Oregon and I knew the writer wasn't actually from here the moment the narrator was disturbed by the "unnatural silence and stillness" of the forest.

I hike all the time and the forests are just like that. You don't often hear birds and crickets and things most of the year, let alone larger animals. It's jarring compared to the Eastern forests I grew up with where you could always hear something singing or buzzing. The woods out here are like a crypt.

Hey is it common knowledge that "goblin sharks" are only called that because Japan named them "tengu sharks" (tenguzame) or is that more obscure knowledge? For decades anything to do with Japanese yokai just got translated as "goblins" or "demons" (sometimes still is of course)
