Hot take but I really do think that some of yโall need to consider how/why/when/how often youโre making fun of straight people for being straight
I do it too, Iโm not going to pretend I donโt make jokes about the hets, or the down with cis bus, or whatever
But I recently befriended a cis, straight dude and I have watched him be dismissed, degraded, and unambiguously insulted for the perceived โcrimeโ of being straight โ all in queer environments where he is allegedly โcompletely welcomeโ and surrounded by โfriendsโ
This guy is not a toxic person! But I have seen him be made to feel so small and like his comfort and safety in those spaces are conditional on his silence and acceptance of being treated like a human dunk zone, and I think that some of yโall have had so much shit from straight/cis people that the second you feel like youโve got an inch, you want to luxuriate in the perceived catharsis of bullying someone whoโ actually โdoesnโt deserve it
And until he very, very carefully mentioned to me in private that it makes him feel bad, I didnโt even clock that I was involved in doing that, that it had become so instinctive for me to make casual jokes like that, and thatโ well meaning or otherwise โI had been contributing to an environment that made someone I really really like feel like shit
So, I dunno, I think maybe some of yโall should think about that too

People don't realize how liminal it is to be a time traveler. How you don't ever really feel like you're in the time you are. Even when you're in your own time, everything is off, your coat was something you bought in interwar France, the book you're reading on the train is from a bookstore you had to visit in Victorian London, even your necklace was given to you by a Neolithic shaman, from a culture the rest of the world can never know. You find yourself acting strange even when in the present, much less in the past you have to work in.
You remember meeting a eunuch in 10th century China, and having him be one of the only people smart and observant enough to realize you were from a diffrent time. You could talk honestly with him, though still you couldn't reveal too much about your time. And it was still so strange hearing him talk casually about work and mention plotting assassinations. You're not allowed to but you still visit him sometimes.
You remember that the few times you were allowed to tell someone everything it was tragic. You knew a young woman who lived in Pompeii, who you had gotten close to, a few days before she would inevitably die. On your last day there you looked into her eyes, knowing soon they'd be stone and ash, that the beauty of her hair would be washed away by burning magma. And you hugged her, and told her that you wanted her to be safe, and told her she was wonderful and that you wanted her to be comfortable and happy. And you let her tongue know the joy of 21st century chocolate, and her eyes see the beauty of animation, knowing she deserved to have those joys, knowing it wouldn't matter soon. And you hugged her the last time, and told her she deserved happiness. And when you left without taking her it was like you were killing her yourself.
You want to take home everyone you're attached to. There's a college student you befriended in eighteen fifties Boston. And you can't help but see him try to solve problems you know humanity is centuries away from solving. And you just want to tell him. And it's not just that, the way he talked about the books and plays he likes, his sense of humor. There's so many people you want him to meet.
You feel the same way about a young woman you met on a viking age longship. She tells stories to her fellow warriors and traders, stories that will never fully get written down, stories that she tells so uniquely and so well. She has so many great ideas. You want so dearly to take her to somewhere she can share her stories, or where she can take classes with other writers, where she can be somewhere safe instead of being out at sea. She'll talk about wanting to be able to do something, or meet people, and you know you're so close to being able to take her, but you never can, unless she accidently finds out way too much then you can't.
You remember the longship that you met that young storyteller on. You were there before, two years ago for you, ten years later for the people on it. The young woman who told you stories wasn't there ten years later, you had been told why then but you only realize now, her uncle, who ran the ship, had been one of the first people to convert to Christianity in his nation. He killed her, either for not converting or for sleeping with women, you're not sure, but he killed her, and bragged about it when you met him ten years later.
You talk to the storyteller on the longship, ask her about the myths you're there to ask her about, the myths that she loves to tell. You look into her eyes knowing it's probably less then a year until her uncle takes her life. You ask her if you think that those who die of murder go to Valhalla. She tells you she hopes not, she doesn't see Valhalla as a gift but as a duty, she hopes for herself to go to Hel, where she wouldn't have to fight anymore. You slip and admit you're talking about her, telling her that you hope that's where she goes when she's killed. You hope to yourself you'll be forced to take her to the twenty first century, you're tempted even to make it worse, you want to have ruined her enough to be able to save her.

Hello ๐
Please take a moment to read my story.
I am Heba Al-Dahdouh. I currently live in the completely destroyed city of Gaza. Since the war on Gaza began on 7/1/2024, my family- my father Nasif, my mother Asmaa, and my siblings Khaled, Ahmad, Muhammad, and Malak-have been living in constant fear, crying, and suffering due to shrapnel, shells, and bullets.
We have no food, no electricity, no cooking gas, no schools, no homes, no cleaning supplies, and no clothes. Our house was completely destroyed. My school has been bombed, and my brother Khaled's university is now rubble, depriving us all of education. The war has forced us to live in displacement centers, which are just tents unsuitable for living, especially in winter.
Every day we live death, terror, and panic a thousand times because of the ongoing bombardment of my city. The war has killed more than 50 of my relatives and neighbors. At the start of the war, we sought refuge at my aunt's house, but it too became rubble. Imagine: we have survived imminent death more than 20 times and have been displaced among shelters more than 13 times. My siblings and I have suffered from many illnesses due to malnutrition, and we need medication continuously.
If we stay in Gaza, we might lose our lives. Recently, we have been seriously considering leaving Gaza for a safe place. However, travel costs are extremely high. We need over $50,000 to leave Gaza. Due to exorbitant prices, rampant unemployment, lack of security, the ongoing siege, and relentless bombardment, we have lost all our money. How can we live in such insecurity, with constant shelling and shrapnel flying above us? Dear compassionate friends around the world,
With your generous donations, even if small, you can save 7 people from imminent death, allowing us to start a life outside Gaza filled with love, peace, and hope.
With my warmest regards from the city of Gaza,
Heba Al-Dahdouh.

URGENT APPEAL! HELP ME SAVE MY FAMILY FROM THE HORRORS OF WAR
Hello everyone,
My name is Aya, and Iโm reaching out from Gaza. I am addressing you after a complete year of a devastating war that left disastrous impacts on our lives. I led a good life along with my family that was once happy, but things took an ugly turn since war eruption. Despite difficulties, we managed to cope somehow. Yet, it has been a complete year of fear, anxiety and lack of certainty, and this isn't ending anytime soon. For this reason,ย we have decided to evacuate Gaza and start over in a new place.ย I love my hometown. I certainly do, but the survival of my family is at stake!ย I am appealing to you to help me save my family by raising the necessary funds to safely evacuate Gaza.ย You are kindly invited to read my story as I try to explain in simple words unexplainable feelings of misery, desperation and bitterness.
Sweet home, no more
At first, we were forced to leave the comfort of our house in order to seek refuge in a safer place. Well, it turned out that there's no thing such as a safe place in Gaza and, sadly, our sweet home was damaged. To a small family, like us, home means everything. It means safety, comfort and love, but no more!
A complete turnaround
A complete turnaround
Before war, we enjoyed a comfortable life. Our house was fully equipped with the latest gadgets. Everything we needed was just a click away. Yet, we have gone through a complete turnaround. Since the beginning of the war a year ago, we had no power supply, no water, and no cooking gas! We are literary a century back in time. We use wood for cooking and heating, stand in lines for water supply and manually move water from very far places.
Aya
It's me. I loved cooking, graphic design and reading. Yet, all of this sounds now like a distant memory. The war has effectively killed my passions, as all I am thinking about in the meantime is the safety and survival of my family. I worked as a content creator, studied to be a professional graphic designer and had big dreams, but sadly they are all gone!
Dad
My father, Ayman, worked as a respected computer engineer at a big tech company. He loved his work, but sadly, he doesn't work anymore as the company stopped operating in Gaza. My father suffers from high blood pressure, and I am seriously worried about his safety and health, considering the shortage in medications and healthcare services in the war-torn Gaza. My father is also occupied by our safety and survival which increases his illness. Being responsible for a family of five members isn't a small feet in normal conditions, not to mention in wartime.
Mom
My mom, Eman, is my sweetheart. Despite the challenges, she took care of us every single day for over a year of displacement. Regardless of the challenges, she kept on supporting us without complaining. However, I am increasingly worried that she might collapse under this unbearable pressure.
Granny
My 85-year old granny is the most vulnerable person in our family. she is chronically sick, and the lack of medications and healthcare only makes her condition even worse! My granny, who barely walks, is displaced over and over again and is forced to move dozens of kilometers every time we get displaced.
Ahmad
My brother, Ahmad, worked at a big tech company and was preparing to get married. He had a promising future and a great career ahead, but all of his dreams have vanished in the dust of war. He lost his job. I am really worried about his safety as he is growingly depressant!
The line between safety and peril
To safely evacuate Gaza, we need to travel through Rafah border crossing, which increasingly represents the line between safety and peril. However, we are asked to pay a huge sum (7,000 USD per person) which we cannot afford, as the war has drained our savings. That's why I decided to turn to you for help.ย Please, save our lives.ย Your donation, no matter how small, can decide our safety.

I am asking you to help me get my children and my wife out of the tragic situation we are living in now .The war is now getting worse.
There are only a few days left and it will become a full year and we are living in a war situation.
We wake up every day hoping that the war is over, but unfortunately our frustration increases with each passing day. I do not know if I will be able to get my children and wife out of this tragic situation. Due to the lack of water and the high prices of food, and there is no source of income for me in the war, I am very sad and I do not know what to do. Our lives have turned upside down. We had a house. I used to live in the Tal al-Hawa neighborhood, and now it is completely destroyed. My children were in schools and universities, and now a year has been lost. Since they lived without studying, the university and the schools they were in were destroyed.

Hello dear friends and potential saviors. My name is Ahmed Totah, I am 21 years old, my father is 67, my mother is 55, and my sister is 25My grandfather is crippled and can't do anythingWho is 91 years old . We now live in the northern Gaza Strip.
Since the beginning of October 7, 2023, and now we are more than 12 months into the war, my family and I have lived a life of relentless violence and suffering after being displaced from our home, more than 10 to 11 times. We have been displaced to schools and relatives, and we are currently living without shelter, and we suffer from food shortages that have forced us to eat animal and bird food due to high prices. Winter has come and we have no blankets or shoes to warm my family. I want you to help me provide for my family's needs and protect them from the bitter cold in winter, and the harsh mud that floods our lives under the rain.
And our suffering in transporting water for drinking, and when it is provided, it is not pure. Diseases, especially rashes, epidemics and pollution, are spreading, while we struggle to survive without proper food, water or medicine. There is no place for anyone, especially children, but
And when it is provided, flour is hardly available through aid (trucks - bershtat) and one day my foot was run over by a truck because of an attack by people and this is because of the lack of flour.
This is all we have. Before the war destroyed our lives, I had just moved to my home in northern Gaza. It was supposed to be a moment of joy, but our happiness was short-lived. On October 7, everything changed. The day started like any other, but soon the sky darkened with smoke, the ground trembled beneath our feet, and the air was filled with the sounds of terrifying explosions. The bombing was continuous, and my family gathered together, praying that we would survive. When the dust settled, nothing was the same. The bombs continued to fall. Every day, my family and I in Gaza wake up to a living nightmare, in a race against time as the war strips us of any sense of peace and normalcy.
My father and mother kept the key to their house in the hope that they would return to it. My father was shocked by the news of the bombing and explosion of our house that held our memories. Here, our dreams of home were displaced and everything was destroyed.
Our lives are in constant danger, and we are desperate to find a way out - a chance to protect my family and rebuild my future safely. But we cannot do it alone. We need your help to escape this nightmare and start over abroad. My profession before and after the war Before the war, I was proud of my work, I studied Hakim at Al-Aqsa University and built a future for myself and my family. I had a thriving career and a home that I worked hard to establish. But everything disappeared during the war. After the war now, everything has disappeared. My work, my tools, and everything I worked for turned into rubble. The war took everything from us, and now my family lives in a tent, and we struggle to survive. We live in fear, trapped in war, everything we had disappeared one day. Our home is destroyed, our community is in ruins, and the constant sounds of explosions remind us that there is no safe place.
My family and I are trapped in Gaza, living in fear and panic as the bombs fall closer and closer. Every night, the walls shake, and we wonder if we can make it until morning. We have lost everything, and we know that our only chance of survival is to escape this war-torn land. But we canโt do it without your help. Please help my family, my friend. The money raised will go directly to cover the costs of my evacuation and that of my family. This includes:
1. Travel expenses โ fare, documents, transportation for me and my family.
2. Temporary shelter โ a safe place where we can rest, recover, and begin to rebuild.
3. Basic necessities โ food, clothing, and medical care upon arrival.
4. Support to rebuild our lives โ access to education, healthcare, and job opportunities in a new country.
My family is made up of 6 people, and we know that we will need $10,000 per person to cover these critical expenses. Why your help matters Can your support make the difference between life and death for my family? Every donation brings us one step closer to leaving the devastation and fear behind, and starting over in a place where we can finally find peace. We cannot do this alone, but through your kindness, we can give our family a chance to live โ a chance to rebuild, to dream, and to live without fear. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for being a part of our journey toward safety and hope. Please help my family escape death and the danger of life. Please help my family.
That's why I'm begging you to share my story and post the link to help my family survive.

Hello, my name is Iman, a mother of five children, the oldest is 15 years old and the youngest is two.
I live with my family in northern Gaza. Our life has turned into a battlefield. We lost our home and were forced to flee and escape with our lives. We have been displaced eight times, moving from one school to another, and we are now living a life of homelessness and hunger
. Even clean water is unavailable ๐๐ญ. My children are suffering from starvation and malnutrition, going to bed hungry every day.
I cry for my little daughter, who is two years old, when she asks for milk, which we don't have, and her frail body survives only on flour and stale bread. She has been deprived of everything. My children long for vegetables, meat, and fruit, which we haven't had in 11 months since the war began. Our bodies have been worn down, our bones are brittle, and my son Mohamed's chest bones are now protruding along with his spine. His body is covered in scabies due to a lack of cleanliness and the absence of medicine. Our bodies are swollen from the intense heat as we live with 40 people crammed into a small classroom filled with displaced people.
My children have been deprived of education, even though they are all excellent students
. On top of everything, there's constant bombing, fear, and hunger every day ๐ฅบ. This is why I am reaching out, as I have no income to provide for their basic needs as we try to rebuild our lives
Your donations will be the lifeline for my children, offering them a chance to survive and live through these difficult and harsh conditions. Even a very small contribution will make a difference in their lives. Every dollar counts in helping them through this crisis. Please, join in lending a helping hand during this tough and challenging time.
We are in northern Gaza, bodies without life, starvation is killing us, from the youngest to the oldest. We need your support, even if it's something

Help our life ๐งฌ๐๐ป
I speak to you with the voice of humanity If you have a safe house that contains you, remember that I have a family inside a tent
Start of a new campaign
Here I am again. A whole year has passed of complete devastation in my area, leaving nothing but souls alive .Trying to survive has become really boring. We wish for a better death than the misery and hardship that happened to us over the course of this year, the severe loss of our friends. The biggest thing I lost is my brother , whom I love. I never imagined that I would live without him one day. It is enough that I lost my job, as I am a good nurse, but at the present time there is no work except that I am an unpaid volunteer I wished. Departure after him, but life continues indefinitely. For my motherโs sake, they contributed and she sponsored, as she needs treatment due to high and low calcium. She suffers greatly and is in pain. Bone pain is excruciating. My fundraising campaign was created in order for me and my family to live in peace and continue my studies abroad towards safety Please, all that remains is for you to stand by my side during this difficult time that I am going through. If everyone donates $10, I will achieve my goal of protecting my family. I donโt want to die I want a normal and beautiful life .
Up date
Winter is coming, the cold is inevitable, and drowning is definitely the tent ๐๐ฆ๐๐ผ
Please, I want to buy a new tent for my family. Your generous donation will brighten my life and have a positive impact on the painful psychological state we are going through. You are our only hope in light of this tragedy and harsh suffering.๐
