Since it's inspired by Hellboy, do the immortals look strange in anyway or have any strange abilities beyond not being able to die? Or is it just the secret agency part of Hellboy that inspired it?

the ros all have human appearances, but the bureau does have supernatural agents whose appearances stray from the norm. it's more the immortals are set in a world much like hellboy.

i've never seen the old guard and idk how the immortals work exactly, so sorry if this question is stupid. but when an immortal dies and then comes back, do they come back in the same body (like it magically heals itself back together) or do they spawn a new body (that looks identical to their old one and can interact with the old one)?

not stupid at all! when they die it's akin to losing consciousness and waking up afterwards, and you most certainly still feel everything, depending on the injury. the wounds mend and the body puts itself back together, so if you lose an arm or a leg, sticking it back in place and letting the body reattach itself is the visual.

Visage is stood still as a statue by the door, one bed, perhaps management assumed something when seeing you both. It's fine, he'll let you have the bed without argument, he hardly sleeps so it's fine. But if you insist on sharing... he'll sit at the edge of the bed at least.

Serval is all for it, she's a fan of the one bed trope in shows and books, so it happening to her is exciting. And in her excitement, she's pulling you to the bed, embarrassed or not, you two are sharing it. Besides, she won't do anything more than sleep, not unless you want to of course.

Enochian is staking claim on their preferred side of the bed, no way they're entertaining the thought of sleeping on the chair/couch. If you're visibly embarrassed by it, they'll tease you of course, a pout on their lips and pats the empty side while looking at you. "You aren't going to join me?"

Since when have the bureau been working? Did the bureau always "hired" immortals for it's job? Was Director the director of the bureau since the beginnig?

the bureau has been operating in secret for a very long time, and it wasn't called the BSCO until modern times, it began as a group of minds who were interested in worlds and people unlike those in the human realm. with time, it advanced and grew into the bureau it is today with permanent fixtures and new additions.

but no the bureau hasn't always recruited immortals, it's always been a mix of supernaturals and humans, the concept of immortals was known, and studied, but no one ever met an immortal before, until visage. the shadow division, where visage, serval, and enochian are, they're the only immortals the bureau knows of. (until mc arrives)

the director comes from a family that's always served the bureau as directors, they begin as agents and earn their place through hard work and dedication, it's their "destiny" so to speak.

How would the ROs respond to waking up from a nightmare where they'd found the MC seriously injured/dead?

Visage hardly ever sleeps, he hasn't for a long time but on the rare occurrence that he does; he'll wake up drenched in sweat, he doesn't voice his emotions, but he feels them deeply. Seeing the MC gravely injured, or worse, dead, he's unable to function for the entire day, he's off his game. His worries don't cease until he sees MC again.

Serval doesn't often get nightmares and she's thankful for that, her dreams are usually nonsensical and she forgets them the minute she wakes up. MC being hurt or dying in a nightmare though, she knows it isn't real, it's just the part of her that's still human that leads her to believe things will suddenly be different, but when she sees MC again, she's a bit more clingy than her usual.

Enochian pushes the memory of it out of their mind completely. There's no use dwelling on something like that. If MC gets hurt, they'll recover; if they die, they'll come back; they're immortal; there's no way they'd leave them. They want to believe that with confidence, but it still shakes them to their core, so they're a little more withdrawn and less catty around MC, just for a bit, until the feeling fades.

It's here! (Do you like the new cover??) After nine months, the chapter has finally come. This one took me a long time. I outlined and re-outlined and outline some more. There's something Sisyphean about writing an IF and there were long stretches where it felt like the end was never coming. This was definitely a set-up chapter aka it sets up a lot for chapter 5 and beyond when it comes to the routes and upcoming dramaaaa so I'm excited to see everyone's theories and thoughts on all of the breadcrumbs I drop in this one. I'm really thankful that I worked on Chapter 5 alongside of Chapter 4 because that means Chapter 5 won't take so long to come out! I'm excited for that yippeee! One thing to note: I usually leave the lyric options to the end but I couldn't come up with them this chapter. At all. Like for over a month I just couldn't. I am cashing in my "this is a wip" card and forcing a type-in. (It'll be fixed in chapter 5).

A change to note: Attached/Detached are no longer change options but they are now variables and in the stat page. As well as being negative/positive. It didn't make much sense to have the second one because jaded/ambitious does that job and I wanted the attached/detached markers to fluctuate for future story reasons.

There are new stats:

Camaraderie ✮

Born Star ✮

I wanted to focus on the celebrity/famous/botb/band part of it because those stats feel meaningful and important compared to generic personality stats. Some have been taken out but not completely. They are still being measured in the background for flavor text. Stats like Loved and Born Star don't change as often as they are dependent on the changes of invisible stats. They will make more sense in the future chapters !
